Purchased the 2500 SLT LB - 2 w.d. primarily to get the Cummins Diesel. Unbelievable power - and I tow quite often. Interior roomy - back of truck is constantly packed with over 4000 lbs. of business equipment. Runs very very well. Fit and finish of Dodge chassis/body a little unimaginative - but then we've owned Mercedes and Toyatas in the past and are accustomed to a bit more in that area. Wish Cummins would sign a deal with the Dodge Sprinter folks to put one of those power packs in that model instead of the little 2.75 litre Mercedes Diesel. That would REEEEELY be a truck!

Favorite Features

The Cummins Diesel - dependable and ever so powerful. Keep the oil changed and she'll run forever!

Suggested Improvements

Stiffen up the body panels - they dent FAR TOO EASILY

Out of the three top American light duty truck builders this 1999 Ram 2500 HD has been the most dependable truck I have ever owned. I curently have 192,000 miles on it and have had no problems with it . I bought it 10 miles on it, actually it had 3 miles on it I put 7 on test driving it and I am the only one who has driven it and I beleive this truck will be with me a long time. I have no intention of selling it . Lets put it this way at 5 years old and 192,000 miles my cost of maintenance is a little over $1800.00.

Favorite Features

The body style and the cockpit design very comfortable and all the dash cotrols and guages easy to reach and read.

Suggested Improvements

Power seat control location . Back seat leg room not big enough for anyone over 5'3"

The V10 & 5 speed man. trans is a great combo. The A/C works super and there is no rust. Sound system is more than adequate and payload capacity is excellent.

It pulls anything!!! I pulled a dump truck out of the dirt in a specific test. All i did was hook on the 4x4 and the truck did the rest. It is also really fast.

Favorite Features

It is a great truck. It pulled many of my friends, including a dump truck, out of the dirt.

Suggested Improvements

The V8 Magnum is a great engine. The only thng is that it could make a hole in your wallet. But for it's size, it has greaat fuel efficiency, like the cummins does.

I purchased this truck with the Cummins Diesel in September. I have owned almost 3 months and it has been in the shop 29 days. I have had a transmission, transfer case, 3 sets of brakes, a new seat, fuel pump, and fuel gauge put on this truck. I have only driven it 2500 miles.Putting a snow plow on this truck is a bad Idea. My buddy had the same truck and now he can not open his doors because of the poor frame design. They can not handle the strain of a plow. Will never buy another Dodge in my life!

Favorite Features

Plenty of power!(When it runs) Very comfortable on my bad back.

Review

The Cummins has proven to be awesome. No problems ever. BUT! The reliability and power of the diesel is overshadowed by the sloppiest body mechanics and workmanship ever. I am now on my 3rd front bumper, (held on by plastic bolts!) and it is starting to go, as well as the bed liner (factory), running boards, & tailgate. Can see the road through the hole in driver's side door.Too many defects to list. Anybody test this thing? I would never get another Dodge product unless it was built by Toyota. Also, unless you sand bag the bed or carry hay for weight, be prepared to have Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, as it shimmies all over the road. Scary.

Favorite Features

Cummins diesel is great. Can haul my horse trailer up mountains without missing a beat. Interior is comfortable, adjustable seats are great for long hauls. Roomy. Easy to clean, if you're that type.

Suggested Improvements

Here's a concept: Dodge trucks are for hauling, work, serious stuff. The engineers need to design the body so that it will actually stay intact. I cannot imagine that Dodge would have put this out like it is. Truly awful.

I bought my truck primarily for the Cummins diesel engine. I kept the rest of the truck as simple as possible. The result has been an extremely reliable truck over the years. My old Chevy pickup wich started falling apart at 69k miles could only wish to be as well built. So far, I still have no rattles, nothing coming loose, and am even still on the OEM brakes and tires after 93K miles. This truck will tow anything - no hill has ever slowed this truck down. Fuel economy is tops. I've logged a best figure of 23.7 on a hilly highway trip, maintaining a maximum of 65 mph. Towing loads, typically a double axle car trailer still give me 17 mpg or better.

Favorite Features

Cummins diesel, fuel mileage, reliable as gravity.

Suggested Improvements

Improve quality of A/C clutch (my only failure on my truck)

want a pricey truck that is junk from the factory but has the best engine on the market? then buy a dodge diesel. looking at 4 year old 2500's that are falling apart(no the engine or tranny unless its an auto)...just cant see spending good money on these poorly engineered vehicles. when is toyota or ford going to get cummins diesel engines in there truck? i guess i will just have to wait or by a gas guzzling powerstroke ford.

Favorite Features

there are only 2, cummins engine and body style

Suggested Improvements

fire all the engineers and accountants and bring in an all asian staff to design a truck we americans can have some pride in!
