Long term happiness

Review

Had this truck for almost six years. Never had a vehicle anywhere near that long. Great power, pulls my horse trailer, my camper and has power to spare. Transmission started shifting erratically at about 150,000 miles, (although it was a tow vehicle since new) 5th wheel hitch was installed before I bought it. Best seats in a truck ever! Bottom not sore after trip to Iowa from Michigan. Wish it had more rear seat room, my family is outgrowing it.

Review

Bought it used with 60k. Tranny problems started right away. Replaced intake gaskets, wiper motor, front knuckles. Plastic interior pieces broke in cold weather. Tranny finally went out and sold it. Some say the tranny problems are not true but I don't buy that. I knew of 5 other 99s in a 10 mile radius with the same tranny problems. Heck i didnt even use mine to pull anything!

I love Dodges and I loved this one. It was a blast to drive and a very sharp looking pickup

I think they need to use some better quality parts in the trannys. Other than that I really didn't have much of a problem with it.

Fun to drive, but high maintenance

I bought this truck because I love the look, the power, and the sound. It seemed to drive well, and the interior was spotless. So it went home with me. Then it began. I had to replace all of the brake hardware at the wheels, O2 sensors, cat convertor, full tune up, idler pully, belt, etc. I did this all myself, fortunately. Then, the track bar and a tie rod end was bad. I replaced them. Next, the transmission went. The rebuild was about 2500 bucks. Fortunately I bought an extended warranty, which paid for itself 3x over. So I basically have a new truck. A lot of this stuff could be expected at the age, other things not. I still love the truck and plan on keeping it a long time.

Big fat rumbly V8; Gigantic cup holders; Big Rig look; larger than mose 1/2 tons; lots of room under the hood and underneath to work on it; floor shift 4WD

Fix the plenum gasket issue; higher quality dash (tends to crack); Transmission issues

This truck has left me stranded more than any other vehicle i have ever owned. The transmission went out at 94,000 miles. I have also had a lot of electrical problems which left me on the side of the road,but once i got these problems worked out it actually isn't that bad of a vehicle. It has plenty of power for towing.(I use it to tow my 86 mustang). The dash is HORRIBLE. This thing cracked in so many different places and has HUGE holes in them.

Favorite Features

Heated mirrors come in handy on winter mornings.

Suggested Improvements

Dodge needs to accept that they put crappy dash boards in and fix them instead of blaming owners and they need to improve their transmissions.

I have had no problems with this pickup. The only time it has seen the garage was to replace the driver bench seat that had a manufacturers defect. The gas mileage is not so good.

I have bought this truck from a gentleman that had it for about 3 years and he told me it was a good one. I can say he was right, strong engine gives you the power you want when needed, I feel confident on it and is quite comfortable. You can haul tons of stuff, the folding back seat allows to do so, even when in a rainy day. I am having a little bit of an issue with a leak on the transmission fluid, but other than that this is an excellent vehicle. I will get a newer one as soon as I can.

Favorite Features

Strong engine, very spacious, handles very well in rain and snow, even though this is a 2WD.

Suggested Improvements

Would love for it to be more economic in Gas!

So far I have not been able to get my wife out of it so I can drive. She never wants another car, don't know what to do about the price of gas? now I drive her van. It's made driving fun again . Only problem is the speakers don't fade on the knob, might be a lose wire.

Favorite Features

Large door I'm 6ft 4in and I fit in this truck. The Air con. works really good. Children Like back seat and always want to be picked up from school in it.

Better gas mileage. Cheaper price on new truck. No real improvements to speak of

If you're looking for a used p/u don't look at this one. I purchased our Dodge Ram 1500 Sport for $12,000 in Nov of 2006. I've since shelled out at least $7,000 in repairs. My main purpose to purchase this truck was to tow an 18' travel trailer. Sure it has no problems towing it, but the gas consumption drops to the floor! On a trip across Canada I had to stop every 250 KM to fill up the thirsty 85 L tank. Should have spent the extra $$$ to buy a used diesel truck.

Favorite Features

Looks nice, handles well, has a great turning radius, can tow pretty good for a 1/2 ton.

Suggested Improvements

Sucks gas like crazy, drinks oil, too many repairs required.

Other than the well known cracked dashboard syndrome these trucks inherited, I love my truck. Must have cat back duel exhaust. The sound and performance gain is well worth the $300. A truck that never failed me yet up here in upstate NY(knock on wood)

Suggested Improvements

Fix the dashboard, use aluminum belly pan gaskets, and give a discount on each trip to the gas station would be nice.
