2003 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 4dr Quad Cab SLT Rwd SB (4.7L 8cyl 5M) 4dr Quad Cab SLT Rwd SB (4.7L 8cyl 5M)
I have been driving this truck for the past three and half months, and all in all, I have to say this is a great truck. The interior is very well built and very comfortable. The exterior is very beautifully built, the truck looks very elegant yet powerful. It can fit in anywhere from the farm to the streets. The stock exhaust note has a very low rumble to it. The truck has a powerful out put when you need it to, but won't scare you senseless when you don't. The gas mileage isn't great, but its a full sized pickup, what do you expect? The only downfall to the entire truck is the transmission. I'd recommend this truck to anyone who is willing to pay the gas and looking for a lot of room.
Interior, exterior design, radio, dash size, storage compartments, powerful engine.
a better built transmission

We had a 2003 Ram single cab, and we were in an accident. My 1 year old was in a rear-facing car seat in the middle, with me and my husband on each side. We all survived without a scratch. The other minivan was totaled. They tried to repair our truck but the sorry repair shop didn't fix it right, so it ended up being totaled. So, we bought the exact same truck, but a Quad cab. Feels very safe in the truck. We have about 150,000 miles on her, and no problems with the engine or tranny. We did have to replace the radiator, heater core, and ball joints, but other then that it hasn't given us any problems. We are selling it now, cause we just got an '09 Ram. Very happy with all 3 of them
Interior space, Feels nice and big and safe inside. Love the front end.

I was pleasantly surprised after owning this vehicle for 8 years that I've had fewer problems than any other car I've owned in my 30+ years of driving. I replaced the alternator as a precaution because a bearing was making noise. That's it. Rotors were changed out under warranty once, but other than that no problems. It is used as a work truck, with hard miles, but it still runs and looks like new. Well built truck. Very solid still. Bad gas mileage but all big trucks have this problem. Average 13 mixed, with a 1500 lb full time load. Great handling truck in my opinion. And I've owned 3 Porsches. Those with brake problems just install aftermarket rotors/pads and be done with it.
Comfort, handling, Powerful Hemi engine. Good build quality and easy to work on. Cheap parts too.
MPG, especially hwy could be better. Quieter cab. Thats about it.
We have had our pickup since it was brand new. It as nearly 165,000 miles on it and still runs great. I have had no major problems with it. The only things I've had to replace is the battery and the brakes. I put my first set up brake pads on when it had 150,000 miles on it. I would stick with the Hemi. Gas mileage isn't great, but you would expect that with a pickup. I average about 17 MPG. Its a comfortable ride and has lots of power. It also has good visibility and is fun to drive.
Hemi engine, comfort, reliable
Truck was great, the small V-8 was more than adequate for my needs. I was aware of the poor gas mileage before buying. Roomy interior, however, wind noise was pronounced at highway speeds. Transmission rebuilt at 46000, tranny problems continued.I would have kept the truck except for these problems. If you are interested in a Dodge,be sure to purchase an extended warranty.
Appearance, interior room, adequate ride, good fit and finish.
Transmission quality. gas mileage, wind noise.
Overall I haven't had any mechanical trouble out of the truck. But on the other hand it could stand alot of improvement. The gas mileage is terrible in the 4.7 liter about 13.5 mpg on average. The handling isn't nearly as good as the chevy's I've driven. The interior quality could have been much better, the dash cracked in three places due to the sun. Which is really my fault but still the Chevy won't crack that easyThe engine has been very reliable it hasn't had to be worked on once but it doesn't have very much power. When you need to pass someone you can mash it and the speedometer barely moves.Been a good truck but when compared to others of this year model dodge should have stepped it up
I love the way the engine sounds with an exhaust system. The outside styling is nice.
More horsepower is a must, better quality dash is needed, and better handling.
This is one of those vehicles I looked forward into purchasing. However, at 3,000 miles, the rotors started warping and the brakes had to be replaced. This occurred every 3,000 miles, take it in for an oil change and get the brakes gone through. I did this six times before I traded off the truck with 18,000 miles on it.
Satisfied with everything except brakes
Develop a better braking system for factory 20 in wheels.
I am the second owner of this vehicle, I have only had it for one year now, but this has got to be the best truck I have ever had. I was a little skeptical to buy a used vehicle of any kind with over 50,000 miles on it, but knock on wood the truck has been great. I have upgraded the exterior with a ton of chrome, the design of this truck makes it easy to go a little over board with accessories. I bought some 20" wheels for it just two months ago, upgrade I ever made to it, looks great. I would recommend a Dodge to anyone. The truck was a virgin to pulling anything, never pulled more than it's own weight till just 2 weeks ago, had to load a 1994 Ford Ranger on a car hauler, pulled great.
I love the broad stance of the truck, looks more like a mans truck then any other pick up on the market in my opinion, sounds awesome with some 40 series flows.
Better fuel mileage would be great, but you can't expect too much out of a hoss of an engine. Take it easy and your sure to get an average of 16 city/19 hwy. Would like for the front seats to be a little more comfortable, feel a little sore after a long trip.
Excellent vehicle, reliable, handles well. The lack of fuel economy 11 mpg around town, 13-14 on highway, with small V-8 is a major problem.
Style, appearance, interior room and design.
Bought her on pure looks alone, while our 2003 Grand Cherokee was in the shop again! Looks, Power and comfort my husband only drives it when it needs to be washed! A few issues though. Needed a new Transmission at 900 miles! Found to be a machining problem internally. Dodge replace it with a new one (Warranty). Also the clear coat on the rims and the aluminum fuel door falling off and corroding after 2 years. Dodge also replaced under warranty. Unfortunately they are doing it again. I average about 11 MPG.
Looks, roomy and the HEMI ROAR!
Better gas mileage
Texan Cadillac - love my truck, as most do. Ton of power, but rarely misses a gas station. Ride is smooth, especially for a full size truck. Very comfortable inside, and roomy to boot. Most of the amenities are there, but pretty simple controls (which is fine, so you don't have to have a PhD to figure out how to program/find what you're looking for). One odd, recurring problem with an Oxygen sensor, but after the first "failed", Dodge has been great about replacing at no charge - just a hassle (and, as I've found out, not really a big deal unless you have to pass emission inspections regularly). Body/frame still in excellent shape, mechanically solid after 5 yrs, 27k miles.
Very easy to use navigation system - and, yes, it has a Hemi and it is truly "Sweeeeeet!!" :)
Better gas mileage, but I'm not complaining, I got what I expected, a fun, workhorse truck - show me others that are more fun to drive and get better gas mileage???
I've owned Ford and Chevy truck and wasn't sure about Dodge when I got it but must say I am totally satisfied after owing it for over 3 years. It is by far better in every way than the other truck I've own in the past 40 years. So, I just bought a brand new Dodge Ram and will sell this one to my nephew.
Engine and comfort
Can't think of any.
Only had it for a year -it was stolen- overall I was happy, my wife loved it, but gas mileage was horrible, 60% freeway, 40% city and it's average was about 11.5 mpg. A few electrical glicks, rear lights especially.
The Hemi, the 20" wheels.
Gas mileage. Maybe offer gearshift somewhere other than the steering wheel.
Since 2003, my Dodge Ram has proven to be strong, reliable and a blast to drive. The engine has performed flawlessly and the entire mechanical structure has held up completely. With only a few internal errors - driver seat lumbar went bad (warranty replaced entire seat - no money out of pocket. The CD player had to be replaced. That is it...everything else has been strong. I even hit a wall with my side mirror and the sound was loud, but when I checked the mirror, it was in perfect shape and no hitch. I love the windshield wipers how they always stop at their close position whenever you turn the wipers off. Other trucks leave the wipers stuck in the window. So much thought in this truck
A perfect engine. The truck overall style. No other truck like it. Paint holds up to dust, rain, rocks. My Ram is still glossy and shiny black.
Gas mileage, but I do understand it's a truck
Bought this truck new, now has 144000 miles on it. Very good gas mileage for a large truck - 16 to 19 on the highway depending on the wind. Had to replace the front brake calipers & pads @ 100K - this is a dodge design defect where the calipers hang up and ruin the pads. this is the second Dodge truck I've owned, and both suffered upholstery tears due to sharp edges from the seat frame cutting through the foam padding and through the fabric. If buying a 2WD, get the limited slip differential - it gets you through snow and up slippery boat ramps great. Great truck, but poor interior quality needs to have some attention from the Dodge engineers. Otherwise, buy it right and enjoy.
Four full doors, 4.7L has ample power for towing a heavy boat, smooth ride, good gas mileage for a large truck.
More comfortable rear seats, better quality seating and design.
Laramie Hemi optioned out. Tow package Hemi, 45RFE 5 Speed and 3.92 limited slip, body color bumpers and grill. 20 in. wheels. Gorgeous truck. Sticker price $35,000 +. This has been a great truck. Handles like a sports car, lots of power. Gas mileage 20MPG@55,16- 17MPG@70, In town around 13. But I expected that. In shop once for warped rotors, covered under warranty (7/70 waranty no longer available) Now have a rear end whine and engine ticking noise that are going to be covered under warranty. No other mechanical problems. Transmission shifts perfectly when truck is loaded tentative when without load but that is the way it should be. A beaut with an 8,800lb towing capacity. Would buy again.
Terrific interior. leather, incredible storage, rear fold flat load floor is awesome Hemi, seats, 6 disc CD player, fog lights, single headlight system is weak but fog lights fill the void, transponder security sytem, handling, 8 way seats both with lumbar adjustment. Just really an awesome truck.
Fuel mileage (supoposedly done in'06) Better headlights, better quality control for rear end and some engine components. 3/36 warranty indicates Dodge was getting a lot of warranty work claims between new 3/36 month end and the old 7/70 end warranty. Buy a drivetrain warranty to 100,000 to be safe.
I'm very happy with my truck, however I was not happy when the water pump went at 28,000 miles.I do not have 4 wheel drive but find that this truck holds the road very well in snow and ice.I just wish I could unlock the back doors from the outside. This would be very convenient. It's a great looking truck that rides very comfortably, gets good gas mileage especially on the road, and I love the back seat as do my four Jack Russells. This is the first Dodge I've bought after having four GMCs. I definitely would go back to Dodge again.
Back seat. Pleanty of storage space and plenty of room for the dogs.
Being able to unlock the back doors from outside
On a road trip across America, it performed flawlessly. At the time of purchase, I bought an extended warranty thru Daimler- Chrysler. It covers pretty much everything. I even get a loaner car for oil changes! Drive'rs area has power adjustable pedals. Stereo controls are conveinently located on the back of the steering wheel. Power seats with power lumbar support are great for long road trips. Gas mileage is about 13.8 mpg if I drive. 14.5 mpg if wife drives. Windshield visors telescope to block the sun. It has loads of storage in and under the seats. Optional tonneau cover for storing items dry and out of the way, yet accessible. 12 volt accessory plugs.
Of course the Hemi engine. Tonneau cover. Rumble Bee vinyls (bought online) Large rear seat with loads of storage. Factory 20" rims and tires
Extend top speed govenor from 105 MPH to 125 MPH. Raise RPM govenor from 5500 to 6300 RPM
Excellent truck for the price! It has every feature I was looking for on a tight budget. The 20's definitely turn heads. Wheels are much better than the '01 and back. You have to get used to the long truck feel, but that is only minor.
The Hemi! 20" Wheels. Burly sound, yet quiet interior. The rde hight akes it feel safe, and you can see over cars. Towing capabilities. The room! Timing chain instead of a timing belt.
Not so much plastic. Don't be so cheap! Better gas mileage, but hey, it is a truck...I knew about Dodge gas hogs before buying. Satellite radio standard. Softer shocks with the 20" wheels.
I bought the truck used and it has run great ever since. I can't say too much for the gas mileage, but considering how big the truck is and the engine size, it does pretty well. It is a V8 after all. Great truck except Dodge needs to work a little with the shifting, it's not bad, but it's not perfect. Great truck!
More aggresive shifting.
These trucks look awesome, but they sure disappoint with their poor quality. Exterior is awesome and is the selling point for these trucks. Interior design is very dated and plasticy. Very roomy & comfortable on short to medium length trips. Long trips become more uncomfortable due to the seats/lack of lower back support. Engine performance is horrible. Bought mine before the Hemi came out - thought the 4.7 would do. Thought wrong. It can't get out of it's own way, and gets worse mileage than the much more powerful 5.4 ford that this replaced. Truck out of alignment at 4,000 miles, warped rotors at 15,000, alignment again at 20,000, and leaky power steering pump at 39,000 miles.
Bold exterior design, factory 20" rims, size of quad cab compared to GM, FORD, and Toyota extended cabs.
First and foremost, this pig needs to get better mileage. The power (lack of, in my 4.7) is poor when compared to the MPG it gets. I'd be okay with 15.5 if I had more power from this thing. Secondly, interior needs freshened, ride with the 20"s needs to be improved, and the brakes need refinement.
I haven`t put too many miles on it yet,but so far its been great.I just wish the gas mileage was better since it seemed to increase in cost around the time I bought it.
satelite radio-cd player-cassette player- remote start-heated seats+the rest of the standard stuff
make front seat floor flatter into the corners
15,000 miles on the truck and i haven,t had any problem, is a great truck, best engine (Hemi) than any other truck; if you buy one you wull not be dissapointed.
The engine Hemi, the 20" wheels, the roomines in the cab.
Gas mileage will be nices to improve, is not bad but is the same as any other V8 engine from Ford, Chevy, Nissan and Toyota
I have never owned a truck before and I believe this is one of the best trucks out there. Good price and great comfort.
I love the spacious room in the cargo area. The back seats have ample room and so does the front.
The only thing I can think of would be gas mileage, but every truck has poor gas mileage.
I have had the truck for just under 10,000 miles and have had no problems. My old Ram has over 200,000 miles on it which is why I bought another one. I have had the best luck with Chrysler products all the way around. This new Ram has great looks, power, a wonderful ride (like riding on a cloud) and can do everything. It seats 6 adults comfortably, tows and hauls, what more could you want from a vehicle?
The great ride, bold looks, improved handling, powerful engine and big rig look of the grill.
Better fuel economy would be nice! My 10 year old Ram gets better gas mileage! Extra power points for cell phones, etc.
I've had an excellent experience with this truck. Installed and K&N air filter and FloMaster Stage III dual exhaust system, getting 3 MPG better on freeway. Build quality has been durable, no squeaks or rattles. Engine has been flawless.
Driving comfort during long trips.
More gadgets as options.
Awesome vehicle. No problems, no complaints. Should be TX truck of year and future.
power, 20 in wheels, bodystyle
I love the Hemi power and throttle noise, comfortable seats, and sitting up high over the traffic. Terrible wind noise from front passenger window, leaks water when windy and raining. Paint is fading on lower panels behind wheel wells.
Hemi power, riding comfort, stereo.
better mileage. I get no better than 11 mpg no matter how I drive it. Better paint!
Although I am somewhat disappointed with the fuel economy of the truck I am very pleased over all with the truck.Acceleration is terrific, ride quality is nice and fit and finish is better than I expected.
Acceleration,comfort,roominess and cargo capacity.
Better fuel economy
Whatever category you list this truck does it! Anybody that whines about fuel economy I ask did you not read the window sticker? Secondly with the power and performance did you really expect to get great economy? Thirdly you like showing off which makes it difficult to keep your foot out of the tank! So now let's get this straight you wanted what?
power, power, power!
more power, more power, more power!
Great truck all around. best styling in a pick up in a long time completely blows away chevy and ford.
The truck is fun to drive However had problems with front rotors warping after 15000 miles dealer said it was due to towing a trailer. this was the reason for purchasing the truck trailer weight is 3000lbs below max. for the truck. also body strenth is vary low major damage from an accident at 5mph.
Better brakes and body strength
It a fun truck to drive.
After two great months I am still in awe of this truck, I only have two complaints 1. I wish my wife didnt like to drive it so much, then I wouldnt be driving a minivan to work. and 2. I wish I had gotten the 5.7 HEMI instead of the 4.7 so I could say YES to all the ????
I have a 2003 Hemi with around 8k on miles and it and it hasn't been back except for an Oil Change. Great Truck it has way more power and people always tell me what a great truck it is. I also love the room and can put 6 people in the truck no problem. I have never regreted not having the Bucket Seats
Hemi engine and 4doors as well as being able to put 6 peopl in it.
Not much but maybe more luxury features like automatic lights standard.
I was affraid that the HP would be lost in this tank, but I was wrong. This truck can walk circles around my old Dakota R/T and about anything else on the road today
HEMI.... (345 HP stock right out of the box)
Remove the computer that tells you the MPG, it will scare you how low the numbers go.
I've owned late models Chevy and Ford pick ups and this Hemi Lariat has been the tightest built to date. The bed doesn't shake over railroad tracks, the steering feel is good and it tracks true. Heated seats are nice on cold days and the HVAC system works well in all weather. This truck has great acceleration with the Hemi and the sound of the exhaust reminds me of the late 60s. This is not a perfect truck, but I don't regret my choice of the Dodge. I have had no problems, either mechanical or otherwise so far. The looks are awsome and you have a commanding view of everything around you.
The Hemi engine. I wanted a Hemi and it continues to amaze it. The 20 inch wheels make this the best handling of the big trucks. I enjoy driving this truck.
Better stereo systems, directional indicators in the mirrors, reverse sensors in the bumper and HID headlights. The tailgate is heavy and cumbersome to open and close. An automatic dual zone climate system and auto lights.
I have only had this truck a couple of months but I love it. The 4.7 engine is ok. I love the ride hight and the looks of the truck. I drove the Ford and Chevy also but the Dodge is better looking and had more interior room. Also the best value.
I love the four doors, exterior design is great, the drink holder can hold the biggest of drinks.
I think there should be some back lighting on the cruise control, also some sort of light on the cup holder (hard to see where to put the coffee early in the morning)
I thought the highway gas mileage at 11 mpg was the worst part of this 4x4 truck until the rear tire broke off the axle while trying to drive over a 6" curb. Then Dodge refused to warranty the vehicle and charge me $3400 to repair the axle. Needless to say, I will never buy a Chrysler product again. My 2002 FORD F350 is a great vehicle.
The inside features are very well laid out. The body style is attractive. Too bad the vehicle is poorly built and Dodge does not support it's cutomers!
Dodge needs to support it's customers and build a truck a better truck.
Got the HEMI and love it. Makes the truck quite quick. Standing on the accelerator forces you back into your seat like a catapult launch. Gas mileage is far better than I expected: started at about 14 mpg hwy. Now, with 13,000 miles, I average more than 18. The dark blue gets lots of compliments. Towed a large trailer from Memphis to Boston with ABSOLUTELY no problem. Couldn't even tell I was pulling over 3 tons of crap. GREAT TRUCK!
HEMI. 345 horses. Also love the thoughtful dash design.
Make the HEMI upgrade more noticeable.
Nice truck. A couple of minor issues from factory concerning paint on rear door pillar. Dealer fixed without issue. Other parts needing addressing were driver side console has play making it a nuisance to put windows up and down. Missing screw from plenum underneath instr. panel. Dealer didn't fix console and they put bolt instead of screw on plenum. Again, lovely sale and truck but back to the old typical service issue that I hoped not to relive on my lifetime of owning an American car again. Oh well nice truck just disappointing service.
4.7 goes, lots of room for family and storage in short bed. Tacoma/Tundra too small when talking room. Chevy & Ford too expensive. A lot of truck for the dollar.
Love to have better mileage. Dodge Service. Typical "I don't care or it's not my problem" service attitude that I haven't had to deal with since I owned an 87 Chevy Camaro. Since then I've gone foreign. Makes you think twice.
I have been driving my 2003 now for a year. I have 25,000 miles on it now, most of it driving back and forth from California to Florida pulling a boat or trailer. It is very comfortable and has plenty of power for my needs. I would recommend this truck to anyone who is looking for one over the F-150. After 25,000 miles, it is still quiet inside without any rattles or creaks which is my biggest pet peave. the 2001 and prior models had way too many rattles and creaks from the doors and interior which they have completely corrected with the 2002+ model. My truck is a 5 speed manual trans and I would definately buy another Ram but with an automatic.
The fold down center console/seat/armrest. Fold up back seat.
a few 110 outlets would be a big help. A different design for the extra large fold out mirrors for pulling trailers would be good. I cannot get my truck in the garage without folding the mirrors in manually... or an auto fold in feature.
A fun vehicle to drive. Very comfortable, spacious, handles great for such a large vehicle. I have but only one gripe, gas mileage. It's horrible! I get about 13 miles to the gallon. Other than the mileage I'm pleased. I would recommend this vehicle as a second automobile in the family (not the primary).
Exterior style, tough look. Comfort.
Gas mileage!!!! Interior could use an upgrade. The F150 interior looks better
this is a very good truck. the only real problem is the interior of my truck,it is to plain compared to a silverado and or a f-150. we have the greatest exterior design and the worst interior styling design of any truck on the market, its to plain and does not compliment the exterio. we can be number one in both, . thanks a Dodge guy all my life...p.s. lets go...
the room of the enterior, the power and performance...
work on the interior.
I got the 1500 Hemi with 20" wheels after checking out Chevy and GMC. This truck had me from the moment I sat in it. I picked it up with 50 miles, two weeks ago and currently have 2200. The gas mileage I will have to admit could be better but it's a truck afterall. I currently average 14mpg and improving. The hemi has awesome power and handles beautifully under most conditions. Watch out when going over bumps in the road, the truck wiggles as some of the other guys were saying. So far so good, I am really happy with my purchase.
Hemi package and interior quality. The storage space in the quad also comes in handy.
More storage areas up front. An alarm should be standard with the keyless entry like Chevy and 20" wheels should have a locking key nut standard.
For a person of my size there is more room than in a similar Ford or Chevy.
My 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab has been a very pleasant surprise. I had never thought about buying a Dodge truck but these new Rams really caught my eye. I got the 5.7 Liter "Hemi" and the 20 inch wheels with the sport package. The Ram handles very well for big truck and looks great. The first two months have been trouble free. The Hemi engine is awesome!
The fold up seats with storage underneath. And of course the "Hemi" engine.
The cruise control buttons on the steering wheel should be illuminated, like the window switches.
This truck is great, from the new looks, to the ride quality. I always get compliments from the huge wheels, to how good the factory sound system is. This thing rides like its on rails, rack and poinion steering, almost as good as some of my muscle cars. Great for long trips, lots of room.
Great CD sound system, cool 20 inch wheels fun to wash and they look cool!
Please bring back the forest green color.
We've had our truck about 3 months. It has about 5000 miles. Last week we had to have new rotors on the front. Anyone else have this problem?
Love the HEMI motor and the 20 inch wheels
Could have a softer ride but other than that really love it.
The Hemi motor is awesome on my 1500,coupled with the manual 5 speed transmision and the anti slip diferential it launches down the road in a hurry.
The manual 5 speed trans on the Hemi and thee big rig styling.
Just purchased our first Dodge. We've had 2 GMC's and 1 Ford. GMC was good, don't recommend the Ford. Got the California Express package with the Hemi. What sold us was the body style. Love the way it looks, drives and sounds. Plenty of room and the wife loves the adjustable pedals.
The power of the Hemi, the Adjustable pedals, tires and wheels, sport body styling, and comfort.
Could be more luxurious inside. Dash is a bit plain. Loaded should include cd changer and heated seats. Captains chairs would be nice. If Dodge had it's body style with the GMC Sierra SLT interior, they wouldn't have any left on the lot.
very solid truck. first dodge i have owned. love it. only thing i dont like is the gas mileage, but i am going to add dual exh and a cold air ram. this should add some miles per tank.
Room to spare, quiet and smooth running. Plenty of power but eats the gas. No complaints from the teens I have either.
Full open rear doors
Have had truck 5 months and dealership can not keep brakes fixed been in 3 times for brakes, 2 times for AC work, had to replace right remote mirrow. Wish I had purchased the 5.9, the 4.7 is just 2 week on hills and pulling. other than that I like the looks and the ride.
Brakes, Air Condition, engine and TRans performance
very fast install the chip makes it a mustang killer
Well, it's got a Hemi, what more can I say. With the Hemi engine, it really moves, whether from a stand-still or passing even at 75 mph. Of course, you can bank on filling the gas tank up at every street corner, but hey, it also tows my 3000 lb. boat like it wasn't even there, so if I was looking for fuel economy I'd buy a gay hybrid car and hug trees. The interior is spacious and comfortable. The drive is nice and smooth, except over bumps.
The look, the price ($23500 out the door), The ride
I like my truck.
Been waiting for this truck for so long... ordered the Hemi (5.7 liter) engine and 5-speed automatic. With 20inch wheels and tires no other truck looks quite like this Dodge. Quick trottle response and more than average ride quality. Drove over 3 hours non-stop and was not uncomfortable at the least. Now I just have to find something to tow behind it... Oh, and as far as reliability, after 6 month only trip to the dealer was an oil change.
Favorite Feature? Let me see... HEMI This motor may not be the famous 426, but it is still very strong and sounds good too.
Maybe slightly softer shocks in the rear. And why is there not a sunroof available as an option? Otherwise, this has to be the vehicle I will be buried with... no kidding.
I love driving this truck it makes you feel like the king of the road
make the 20 inch wheels standard equipment
Add armrests, and headrests in the backseat, and add more colors to the lineup, then dodge will have an excellent truck
I have had my new truck for 2 months now and the major concern I have is the lightness of the rear end. If I am driving 65 on the freeway and hit a bump I'll be dancing into your lane, soooo, if you see me coming give me some room. The seats get uncomfortable after 100 miles or so, back is killing me.
looks great, good acceleration.
Do something about the rear end, it scares me sometimes, make the seats more comfortable for long distance driving
If you see a bad review of this truck better suspect the source as a Ford or Chevy dealer. They got caught with their pants down. I have freinds with the Tahoe and Ford Triton. The Ram is stylish, hemi power beautiful interior and nice ride for a truck. I used to be a Chevy man but this is a crossover vehicle. We're Dodge fans as long as they build this kind of quality. We own a Toyota which is also good quality but not in the same class. No better full size truck after looking for weeks.
Ride, power, hemi
Improve the mileage Dodge!
I have to admit, I have owned a couple of Dodges in the past (98 4x4 and 99 Quad 4x4) and I didn't think I would go back to Dodge, but then I drove the new 2003 Hemi powered Quad Cab SLT and God it is great. Yeah the ride over bumps is a little rough, but with 20 in wheels and low profile tires, what do you expect! So far I am glad I returned to Dodge. And with a little exhaust work and a better air intake that Hemi loves to RUN!
HEMI power! Plenty of room to build on.
Gas mileage, but who is counting with all that power
We bought the truck in Feb. 03. The awesome appearance got us over from our last truck(silverado), and we have not been disappointed. The 20" chrome wheels do cause a small amount of hopping over extremely rough roads at higher speeds, but you know where the bumps are!We have added the 3 step chrome boards,Ram tail light covers,Rhino liner and you can't miss with the Billit Grille. This truck turns all heads, pulls our 31' fifth wheel like its not there. As far as the gas mileage..What do you expect, its got a HEMI!
Actually the whole truck!
Limit the production so that I will have the only one! A true collectible! Come with a 69 Charger.LOL
none are better than this incedible looking truck and this hemi enigine has much power.
the 20's and the hemi
We just bought our truck, but have been wanting one for years. We looked at all the other makes of trucks on the market, and felt Dodge offered the most for the money. We currently also own a chevy 1500, and a Toyota T100. Althought they are also very reliable trucks, we are very happy with our decision to purchase the Dodge. We highly recommend this truck.
The four doors, oversized interior offering plenty of room.
Although we recognize the improvement of the gas mileage over the past 3 years, we would still like to see better mpg.
T have a 2003 quad cab with a hemi and the 20 inch wheels. It has been in the shop many times and for different problems. The rear end has a whinning noise in it at 39 and 80 mines per hour. The brake light switch sticks on. The front rotors on the brakes have warped and the truck is dangerous to drive over bumps at high speed because of the stiff suspension and and the 20 inch wheels with the low profile tires. Beware!
Lots of power and fun to drive.
Re engineer the brakes larger and put in a stronger rear end in the Hemi trucks. Change the shock package to accomodate the 20 inch wheels and the low profile tires.
Have owned in the past GMC and Chevy trucks. I had looked at the Dodges but just did not like the styling (interior and exterior). The 2003 Dodge Quad Cab with the 5.9 Hemi is the exception. A lot of fun to drive, but remember to get the 20" wheels or the package isn't complete.
The Hemi has to be the best feature.
They need to think of a way to provide a locking compartment inside the vehicle. Somewhere you can put stuff that the car wash guys and parking valets can't get into to. Perhaps under one of the rear folding seats.
Wonderful handling comfortable truck that's been in the shop continously for a huge number of different problems large & small. Think hard before buying a Dodge
Comfort & handling
QUALITY is PATHETIC. 3 cooling fans in 3 years, multiple major breakdowns.
I've had my truck for a year and a half now and I have over 30k miles on it with very little to complain about. The truck has porformed very well in just about any driving conditions including high altitude mountain driving. I regulary tow my ATV's and camping gear with this truck. The 4.7 may be a small V8 but it gets the gob done well, though I would definelty op for the Hemi now.
My favorite features on the truck are all the storage compartments that can be found thru out the truck, but my single most favorite options are the cup holders. You got a love a cup holder that can hold your "Route 44 Drinks".
Dodge needs to inprove on the gas mileage with out a doubt. The ride could also use some smoothing out as well.
I am a FORD Man, but I gave in and bought a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with a HEMI V-8. Was sold on this truck after the first test drive! The Hemi engine has so much power, I just could not resist the urge to buy it. Makes the Ford 5.4 v-8 and even the GM 6.0 v-8 seem weak. Great ride and build quality, which supprised me for dodge.
Great features inside and out. The 20" wheels look great for a factory wheel and they even ride smooth. Feels like a very solid truck even over rough roads. Of course, the HEMI V-8 is the best feature. Which to my suprise got 18.5 mpg on my first road trip.
Have not found any negative things about this truck, but after 15,000 miles I should find out if my enthusiasm about this truck will hold up!!
Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful incredibly tough dream truck, if you don't mind getting 14 miles to the gallon.
Everything, the whole truck is incredible.
Better gas milage.
NOT IN MY WILDEST DREAMS DID I EVER THINK I WOULD DRIVE A DODGE,AS A CHEVY FAN. BOUGHT NEW DODGE LONE STAR PACKAGE 20 INCH WHEELS LOVE THIS TRUCK. I DECIDED IT WAS TIME FOR A NEW LOOK AND BOUGHT IT. IT RIDES GREAT,HANDLES PERFECT ON THE ROAD.AVERAGED 18.5 M.G. HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP.HAS ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY WIFE AND KID OR JUST PILE THE BUDDIES IN.THE EXHAUST HAS A DEEP TRUCK SOUND TO IT.
THE RIDE OF THE 20 INCH TIRES,THE HUGE ARMREST OVERALL THE TRUCK HAS GREAT FEATURES EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK.
A LITTLE WIND NOISE,MORE 12 VOLT PLUG INS. BESIDES THAT NOTHING
I just bought the truck today, coming out of a 2001 Ford SportTrack and let me tell you about interior space and storage. Design, this big wheeled all black beauty is sharp and I am really proud of it. The power of the smaller V8 is Ok, but 5000lbs is alot to move so I felt that the fuel woud suffer if I got the larger V8. What a pleasur to sit 6 instead of a tight 5. I'm Happy!!
Interior storage, dash and lights, Exterior body shape, BIG WHEELS. Paint finish great.Throaty sound with stock exhaust.
Interior Back seat needs a little more angle. Rear A/C should be a must.Exterior Perfect.
This is my second Ram, I got one in 2002 that was a regular cab and now couldn't help myself and broke down and got an 03 quad cab. I love it, and I will never go back to Chevy or Ford! The handling is superb for something so large, and the interior is spacious, while the exterior is bold and stylish. My Red Ram gets more attention than any other truck, and I love it!
Exterior styling, handling ability
Gas mileage is a bit less than expected though still not out of line for such a good-sized vehicle.
We bought new in Jul 02, Have 30k miles on it now and except for a instrument light bulb that has burned out, we have had no issues whatever with this vehicle. The truck is extremely comfortable to drive and the back seat, while not adjustable, is moderately comfortable for adults of average size. The truck drives and handles very well, more like a car than a truck. We tow a 24 Foot travel trailer with it and have had no problems doing so.
17" Stock wheels. Huge center console / armrest with DC power. Mileage / Average / Temp and Direction display.
Better mileage? ( I get about 17)
Having 2 adults (including me) and two kids (one in a car seat), to tow around, this is a very roomy and comfortable vehicle. The different engine options and colors availble make for an easy pick. The one negative is the fuel milage but please note that it is no different than anyother 4 door full size truck.
The stance and exterior look, (from all angles) and all the room inside
Better fuel milage
BEAUTIFUL TRUCK,ALOT OF LOOKS,PLENTY OF POWER,WHEN DRIVING OVER BAD PAVEMENT AT NORMAL RATE OF SPEED, TRUCK REAR-END WILL MOVE QUITE A BIT. POSSIBLE CAUSE IS 20 INCH TIRES.ALSO EXPERIENCING HESITATION IN TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO DRIVE. SORT OF JUMPS. ALSO MY EXPERIENCE THAT TRUCK TAKES A WHILE TO SETTLE DOWN TO NORMAL OPERATING IDLE. POSSIBLE CAUSE, TORNADO FUEL SAVER INSTALLED.?
FOLD DOWN FRONT SEAT CONSOLE,REAR FOLDING SEATS,PLENTY OF HEAD ROOM I AM 6'4".NO REDLINE.TAKE OFF POWER,WOW!!!
larger glove box, dual exhaust standard,pin-stripe option,
We love this truck. My first American purchase, always read consumer reports and they still reccomend the Tundra; however I took my 15 year old son and put him in the back seat and his knees were in his chin. Glad I took my kids with me, to look instead of just listening to consumer reports. Took 3 surfboards, 6 bicycles and 6 people with luggage comfortably and got 18.2 miles to the gallon on the freeway. What more can you ask for? On top of that the dealership treats you like King for the Day, I sold my Toyota Previa to purchase this Utilitarian vehicle and it was the best decision I ever made. Dodge gives you 7 years on the warranty.
interior, 4 doors that open, flip up seats, storage
bouncy ride with 20" rims and no load in bed.
This truck is heads & shoulders above the truck they built just a few years ago. What many people say is "I like those Dodges with the new front end." Son, it's MUCH more than just a new front end. I had a 2001 model and this is a WHOLE NEW TRUCK! Nothing is the same. Well, I think the Ram emblem on the front is the same...wait no they improved on it too!
1 word: HEMI. The next favorite feature is the steering. It steers as light and nimble as a sports car.
I guess my improvement would be to add a heated STEERING WHEEL. They already have heated seats. Just add an element to the steering wheel. OR, how about a Peltier-based heated seat? In summertime just reverse the current and you have a COOLED SEAT!!
Edmunds needs to update the choices for engines, I have a 1500 QC Hemi and love it. I purchsed it with the sport appearance package and it looks the part of a BA truck. So far I have put a little over 3000 miles on it and it seems to be breaking in well. The ride is great, it handles like a car and sits very high with the 265's on it. I installed nerf bars, bed liner and a K&N filter so far and plan to put a Flowmaster system on it to increase the rumble. I would suggest the Hemi for more power over the other engine choices, my mileage is up to 17 on the highway and drops to 12 in the city, unless I start driving like a teenager wwhich happens regularly.
The Hemi, look and overall power of this truck
Offer a 5 speed with the Hemi 1500
Iv'e tried other branfs and come back to Dodge - because of the styling and build. I like the convenience of the four doors - waited for that one.
Love the center storage and cup holders - the Infinity sound system is more than adequate now it has more umpf than in the past
Don't change this one for at least 3 more years - my wife will kill me if I get another one sooner than that
Have only put about 1500 miles on my new truck so the honeymoon's still on. Love the way it handles for a big vehicle. Has all the amenities of a luxury car and feels like it! The only problem with the ride I found was a back end bounce on certain stretches of road at high speed. But I when I have some weight in the cargo bed the bounce goes away. The 4.7 V8 is enough power for my purposes. I am getting about 14mpg in gas mileage around town. It could be better but that's the price you pay for owning a big truck I guess. I think my wife likes the truck as much as I do. I get compliments about its appearance all the time.
Roomy and comfortable interior and stylish body.
Make the cab a little more sound proof and lessen the back end bounce
I love this truck I sit up nice and high and before we bought any other truck we shopped around and I loved this one more than the ford and chevy plus it well worth the money
The Big Grill and Loud engine
Have more standard features
I think Dodge has built a very solid vehicle with one so far. I have had mine for around a month now and have already put 1600 miles on it. I took it out in the first blizzard of the season last week and nothing slowed this vehicle down. I only have the 2WD model with the anti-slip differential and got around as well as a 4WD did. I loaded the bed down with firewood and took it out of Overdrive and went on about my business as if the roads were clear.
Four Real doors. Large wheels and tires. Rugged interior and exterior components. Peppy little 4.7L engine that sounds great. Windshield wipers and fog lights work great.
The only improvements I could suggest at this time would be to make 4 wheel ABS standard and improving fuel economy. I do wish I would've waited an extra month or two and got the 5.7L Hemi.
I have both the F-150 and the new Ram 1500. I must say I ride a lot more smoother on the Ram. The design is awesome. My first impression was like "wow, I got to have that" and I'm glad I do. I was impressed with the interior. At 6' 3" and pretty hefty, the extra room sure comes in handy. Over all I love my truck from the design to the 20 inch rims to the interior, but I do wish for a little better gas mileage and more horsepower.
1. Babe magnet... 2. Exterior Design...3. Interior gives you more room for what ever the occasion
More horse power and higher torque....Better gas mileage
This is the 3rd Dodge truck I have owned but the first Ram. So far the entire family just loves the Quad cab. Looks great, runs great and is a fun truck to drive. We traded in our family car for this Quad-Ram.
So far the thing I like the most is power drivers seat. Then I would have to say the over-head consol; which has more features that I thought.
A few more storage compartments would be nice.
Dodge Ram is a great looking truck, but performance wise, it falls short. The 4.7L V8 (235 HP) and the 5.9L V8 (240 HP) are both very underpowered. This truck is sluggish. The transmission is not smooth. The interior is cheaply made and the seat feel like a cardboard coated steel. My entire dash cluster went out at 7K and a LOUND engine squeak noise would not go away after six trips to the dealer. The four full doors are nice, but the rear seat is really not that roomy, when compared to an F250 Crew Cab. Main (+) is the looks of this truck. It is mean looking. Large bark, no bite here.
The Truck looked suite. Standard features are great, but electronics are cheap.
More Power, Better Gas Mileage, Better Initial Build Quality and Reliability
Only have 150 miles but for what it is worth.....great to drive! I have the big 20" rims so I do notice a little rear bounce at higher speeds but overall I really enjoy. Smooth acceleration & great manueverability for such a large vehicle. I found the interior to be as nice as any other USA made truck. Rear seating is very comfortable, even for 6ft + folks. Gas mileage is per spec (averaging 14MPG in stop&go traffic on San Diego I-5 freeway), but what do you expect from a V8?
Very Comfortable inside (I am 6ft 4" and back seat passengers still have plenty of room. Manueverability/steering is great for such a large vehicle. Killer exterior design, and engine (4.7L V8) is fine for everyday driving and lite loads (Home depot Runs etc...).
Improve gas mileage and rear end bounce....Don't do a thing to exterior design !!!!
This beast is absolutely AWESOME! I have never been more proud to own a vehicle. All the bells and whistles and a GREAT total package too.
Interior is super plush.
Would like to save some money on gas. Maybe increasing the MPG's would be nice.
This truck simply looks amazing! The fit and finish is very tight. All gaps are straight and even. Dash layout is simple, straightfoward and easy to use. For a truck it's size, the gas mileage is on par but still shocking at first, expect 14MPG in mixed driving. Very comfortable family hauler, good for my small kids (needs rear headrest though). You will not notice the 3" they took from the bed; and bed is still a foot longer than the Ford s-crew. The rear is a little bouncy, but this is normal, with a load or 250lb weight in the back, handles like a sedan. I love this truck.
I always receive compliments; something that never happened with my previously owned Ford. Exhaust has a pleasant rumble without being obnoxious. Interior fit and finish very tight - I was surprised by Dodge, must be the Daimler influence. Lots of room for the price!
Engine adequate for regular transporting (what I use the truck for), but would be inadequate for "real" work. Better cruise control features (odd button pattern). Clearcoat a little soft.
