I had a 2000 Dodge Neon got 252,600 miles out of it before engine finally went. Loved it!! So I purchased a used 2003 Neon SE and it has been a nightmare this past wk. First 30 days it drove fine, made first payment and BAM! But here is crazy thing...my husband had just replaced the ignition coil on old neon so called advance store and they said it was exact ... I have a 2003 dodge neon SXT 2.0 , when i start the car it misfires sometimes, and sometimes it doesnt. I start the car and go and press the gas pedal and the car shakes, and the car doesn't move, and shakes and the cars turns off. I wait about a minute and start the car again and the car runs good. I went to Autozone, and they said the ... Read More
I recently purchased this car and if it's below 90 degrees outside, she turns over, but idles rough and no power when driving. Over 90 degrees she's a dream machine. The code came up as P2302, so I changed the coil, plugs (yes, gapped them correctly to 35), plug wires. Still got the same code, so I changed the battery, ran the alternator test--all is great. Changed the ASD relay too. ... Read More

I was a large equipment mechanic for 16 year before taking a job as an IT Support Analyst, so I know my way around the mechanical end of most vehicles. I have 2003 Dodge Neon that my daughter crashed 2 months after getting her drivers license. It was a fron end collision that pushed the radiator into the intake manifold and the fenders fair enough back to prevent the doors from ... Read More
Hey guys (and gals). I have a 2003 Dodge Neon (Automatic) SXT. Worked GREAT until about 55K miles. Then crap started falling apart. Fast forward 4K miles. At 59K my engine light went on. I went in, and they told me I needed transmission work. Still covered under Powertrain, so that was cool. After having it for a few hours, they told me that the engine air cleaner was hosed. It ... I purchased a Dodge Neon from a salvage company that had a damaged computer. I replaced the computer with one with the exact part number purchased from a salvage company. The engine started and ran for a few minutes and then completely shut off and would not restart. It appears that the key that I was given by the company was not the correct key and the vehicle has the Sentry ... Read More
I recently purchased a 2003 Dodge Neon and the alternator has already went out twice. About 2 weeks ago, I was driving it and it shut off and the brakes locked up, causing it to skid out of control. I had the dealership that I bought it at come get it, and they said that they couldnt figure out what was wrong. They have now sent it to a Dodge Dealer.....any ... Read More
Don't swear off all dodges just because of the 2000 neon. I actually used to own a 2000 neon ES. After 6 months, the battery died. One of my rims bent a few months later. After that, I had a slew of problems, including the O2 sensor and cam sensors going out on it, the power system dying twice(in one year), the lock on the door messing up (where the door ... Read More
A major newspaper is looking to interview people who recently bought small cars after previously driving larger cars or SUVs, despite whether you traded from big to small or if you still have the larger vehicle. He's especially looking for drivers of the Mini Cooper, Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Dodge Neon, Hyundai Tiburon and Mazda Protege. Please respond to jfallon@edmunds.com by Tuesday, October 28, 2003 with your daytime contact info and ... Read More
I bought this car specifically for its economy fuel rating 29MPG city/36MPG HWY. I know that there will be some variance, but I am barely getting 19MPG in City/HWY combo driving. I passed over buying other vehicles because the fuel economy weighed so heavy in my buying decision, plus I saw people raving about the great gas mileage here on Edmunds. This car is under 10,000 miles and automatic. It has ... Read More
Any owners of the 2003 Neon or the Dodge SX2.0 in Canada? My wife and I have included it on our potential picks lists. I am concerned about potential quality issues and would like to hear any feedback from owners.
The Neon has bad baggage because any car under $30k is going to be judged on quality, first and foremost, period. The Miata was a success because it was reasonably well built. If it had been as unreliable as its predecessors, nobody would have bought it. The Integra was a success because it was reasonably well built. Even the Mustang was a success because it didn't exhibit too many glaring flaws. ... Read More
I just bought a 2003 Neon and I am in love with the car. Looks, power and enough warrantee to make me feel safe. Go Dodge,... I just wish the SRT-4 would have come out sooner, then I would have bought it and the only thing you would see is my bumper,...See Ya....
First, I just bought a 2003 Neon SXT. Dodge is really pushing these out the door. I went to the dealership looking for a deal on 2002's. They had the ridiculously low prices hanging in the windows (You know with all the fine print, rebates go to dealer...). I got the car for $12,680, which I feel is a good deal. It may not have the resale of a Toyota or ... Read More
Is anyone questioning the throttle response an d shiftong of the 4 speed auto 2002 Neon.I test drove one and it seemed pretty terible. I understand that Dodge has replaced the engine controler chip with a more powerful unit for 2003. they claim quicker response and smoother running engine. The car I drove was so bad it seemed like the software control between engine and transmission was in crash mode. Comparing the ... Read More
I haven't been here in over a year and agree with mobay! What's up with that man, no neon and still here. For those who don't want to look up year old posts I sold my neon so my wife could have a AWD minivan for here work as a nanny. It was a custom ordered 98 sport that was basically flawless for 3 years and 38,000 miles. I paid about ... Read More
Hello. I recently saw a 2002 Neon R/T on a dealer lot and am hoping to test drive it today. I can't believe how much I liked the car. As the owner of a 96 Plymouth Neon Sport Coupe I really didn't think I'd ever consider another Neon, but that R/T looks really cool and it seems like alot of performance for the money (just like my 96 was). Have the ... Read More
In terms of acceleration per dollar the Neon is going to spank it's competition. Chrysler Group, trying to capitalize on the renewed popularity of compact race cars, or so-called pocket rockets, is introducing the 2003 Dodge SRT-4, a souped-up version of the automaker's Neon. The SRT-4 comes equipped with Viper-style racing seats, 17-inch aluminum performance wheels and performance gauges. SRT-4 is the second-quickest car in the Dodge lineup, accelerating from 0-60 ... I thought Edmunds review of the R/T neon was done well except with relation to value. They fail to mention there is a $1000 rebate (there is always at least a $1000 rebate on neons) and that probably every Dodge dealer in the country will do at least $1000 under MSRP on the neon with little haggling and that puts their loaded R/T at $16500. Thats leather, sunroof, side airbags, and ... Read More
