  • 1996-1999 neon fuel pump/tank

Written by: limeyjack on Jul 24, 2011 11:57:12 AM

I have three Neons: My 1996 beauty (the best) has a faulty fuel pump - it occasionally gets stuck when I try to start the engine (but it never sticks while the engine is actually running) - therefore no fuel is delivered and the engine won't fire. The pump motor turns (you can hear it) but the pump mechanism itself does not. The temporary cure is to apply compressed air back ... Read More

I have a 1999 dodge neon that suddenly shut off driving down the road. After checking I found that the ignition fuseable link had blown. I replaced it and it drove only a few feet but had idled some time. I replaced it again and drove about a mile, another blown fuse. After getting it home I have noticed that it fuse stays good at an idle but when you put ... Read More

My suggestions would be a change of the air filter and spark plugs. If that doesn't work, you might have to try replacing your cam/crank sensors. First and formost, go to a parts sore and pick up the haynes repair manual. It will give you hints on what might be wrong and ways to fix it. It'll also give you a better chance at fixing it WITHOUT having to take it ... Read More

Hello everyone, I am new here... hoping to find some answers here. I have a 99 neon with automatic transmission. Lately I have been having a bizarre problem. The problem started one day when the car didn't want to start- I had to pump the gas a little bit to get it to turn on. Then when I was pulling out of the parking lot, when I pressed on the break ... Can anyone point me in the direction of a diagram or pics of all a/c hoses on a 1999 Dodge Neon? I recharged the a/c yesterday and today I think one of the hoses failed. Big cloud of a/c coolant came from under the hood with a hissing sound. Where ever the hose failed ( if it was the hose ) was under alot of pressure, pretty sure it wasnt the ... Read More

Look around alittle more before setting on this 00. First off it was the first year of the new design...therefore it will most likely have quite a few problems. Now if it has sat around along time and has "extremely low mileage" it may have more problems then if it had high mileage. Now if you cannot afford a new car I would recommend a used Japanese (Honda or Toyota). I ... Read More

malibu_jack: I have a first generation Neon, a 1999 to be exact. With Dodge I have noticed that later builds do not mean better quality (as is the case with other manufacturers). My 1999 Highline Coupe, DOHC, 5spd with only 65k miles has had and still has a number of problems. Most of them are small things, such as water in the tailight, extremely loud rattling from clutch cable, diagonal scratches ... Read More

  • 2003 Neon Incentives / Shock Getting Out of Car

Written by: bravefeetfirst on Nov 5, 2002 10:57:25 AM

First, I just bought a 2003 Neon SXT. Dodge is really pushing these out the door. I went to the dealership looking for a deal on 2002's. They had the ridiculously low prices hanging in the windows (You know with all the fine print, rebates go to dealer...). I got the car for $12,680, which I feel is a good deal. It may not have the resale of a Toyota or ... Read More

I am currently in the market for a used car. My toyota truck is fine but I am done with it (cant stand the handling, ride, pickup, anything). I am basically looking for a 2dr, 5spd economy car. First I was looking at Civics, but I really cannot afford them. I did find a 1999 Dodge Neon Sport, 2 door, 5spd, DOHC with 52,000 miles. I ran a carfax which shows ... Read More

  • 1999 Neon vs. 2002 Neon S (both SOHC & 5 Speed)

Written by: micweb on Aug 27, 2002 11:15:38 AM

I've owned and driven both, and also owned and driven the Focus ZX3. No problems on either. The 1999 handles better out of the box. The Neon S definitely needed better tires. Both cars had Goodyear GA's, but the GA's seemed grippy on the 1999 and sloppy on the 2002. Goodrich Comp T/A's were a major upgrade on the 2002. I also put a front swaybar on the 2002, but couldn't ... Read More

We traded in a Nissan Altima Se that we had since we bought it new in 1995. We have had good luck with Neons and suspect that we are part of the Majority. Most people who post are ... Read More

  • The anti-Neon, et al bias in Town Hall

Snowman, I think what you're getting at is a psychological phenomena known as cognitive dissonance. What I find curious is that it's not just the average Joe that seems to possess it, I've also noticed it reflected by automotive journalists, several of whom write for Edmunds (people who shouldn't actively demonstrate biases toward any manufacturer). These people actually draw opinions first (which is easier to do and more comfortable), and THEN ... Read More
