Summary

What Edmunds.com says

You can't deny it, the Intrepid is a big car. It looks big, it seats five in relative comfort, yet surprisingly, it doesn't drive like a large car. And with a choice of three well-equipped modes, the Intrepid can serve as anything from a stylish family sedan to a bargain sport sedan.

Pros

Plenty of passenger/luggage capacity, agile handling, powerful engines.

Cons

Dated ergonomics, blind spots when backing up, engine noise when pressed.

What's New for 2002

A few functional upgrades take place. The 3.2-liter V6 is dropped as the 3.5-liter engine becomes an option on the ES model, a new SXT model debuts, sporting the R/T's higher-output engine, and the antilock brakes now have Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.

Review

Bought this car for the room and price. It's huge inside. We got the 2.7 for the milage and it'll do 30 on the highway. Everything was good until 90,000. It started with a water pump and ended with $3,000. Now the transmision is on the way out and 130,000. Don't forget about the front end falling out of it also. If your going to buy a Dodge go ahead and purchase a transmission with it, they're terrible. I'm done with dodge.

Review

Hello...I bought my Intrepid ES new in Nov. 2001. I was not sure about buying a Dodge, but I liked what I saw, and I was right. Dodge had a WINNER with this car! Only minor teething problems at first, but it quickly grew into a strong and reliable car. GOOD looking also. I recently had to replace a wheel/rim due to corrosion, which was causing an air leak in the tire. I have read where this is a problem common to certain styles of wheels. I would still have this car, but it was recently (8-2009) totaled in a crash. It took a SEVERE high speed rear end impact, but no intrusion into the passenger compartment! If Dodge still made this model, I would buy another one. HMR

Favorite Features

Styling - not too common to other vehicles. Ergonomic interior. Simply a good car.

Suggested Improvements

The cut of the front doors. Sharp angle to the top corner. One can easily catch themselves on the corner when opening/closing, getting in and out of the front doors. If Dodge ever brings this model back, soften the angle of the front doors.

Review

I've enjoyed owning this vehicle. I have had some problems with the AC and the electrical at times, but seven years into it, the car is still going strong and still looks good.

Favorite Features

Roomy, quiet, and I've been able to get 25 mpg with mostly highway driving.

Suggested Improvements

The electrical system (interior lamp) and the AC have had problems.

Review

Bought this car in 2002 and figured to get 100-150K mileage at best. Still driving with over 205k. Have a solenoid pack switch to replace, but other than that, best car I have ever owned. I still brag that I have a Dodge with over 200K and no serious problems (I am shooting for 300k now). Chrysler, bring back the Intrepid!!!!

Favorite Features

Reliability. 200K+ with original everything! If it dies tomorrow, still money well spent!

Suggested Improvements

Need a better AC/heat t-stat. Either freezing or way too hot! Transmission bumpy sometimes

out of the box ownership, pampered miles, lots of preventive maintenance due to be in love with car, I'm in the process of ditching it: second tranny is need it, OEM went at 60K now 100k and starting to act up same way...nothing isolated: rented a brand new magnun in 2007 did the same thing, needless to say drove it150 miles in second gear for a replacement.

Favorite Features

when it works is the best car ever, outperform my flawless Mercedes, when it works!...like A ford Edsel

Suggested Improvements

RELIABILITY (A nono for Chrysler) dealerships? a bunch of gamblers..they deserve the same fate.
