My 2001 Dodge Intrepid ES leaks fuel whenever I start the car. When I turn the car off, there's no leakage at all. My husband kind've looked under the hood and noticed some type of glass case which he thinks may be the fuel pump or something and thinks it may be cracked. Has anyone else heard of this or have any suggestions?
I drove my 2001 Intrepid SE 129,000 miles with no serious problems with the 2.7l engine, outside of having to replace the water pump at about 95,000 miles. I traded it for a new Honda Odyssey as I needed more passenger and luggage space for long trips. It was the best car I'd ever owned. To prevent problems with engine sludging, I changed oil every 5000 miles using 5w20 full synthetic ... Read More
Awesome! Thank you I will definitely try this.
cam heads have lot to do with the light being on but did u have it reset after fixing the water pump?? if not take it to dealer or iwould advise advanced they can do it for free once they reset that and it comes back on then u have the problem elsewhere
the water pump went out in my intrepid, we had it replaced but now the check engine light is on and when you go to start it, it takes about 10 seconds for it to start. Why could this be. the mechanic also said the cam heads need realigned. is this an expensive task?
I have a 2001 dodge intrepid, the driver side interior door handle broke, the end plastic tips broke that connect to the metal rod that open the door from within. Can the door handle be replaced or is it a one piece unit with the door panel? If it can be replace how do you take the handle off?
Mine is a 99 so there may be a difference but think about it. The section the cap fits onto has to flow into the rest of the system. If it didnt there would be no need for a pressurized cap, actually you wouldnt need a cap at all. Also dodge is really bad about selling specialized tools most dealerships have just refused to sell them to me. Try this site ... Read More
I found out that the intrepid overflow bottle has a 3" section where the cap fits on and the rest of the tank is sealed and is used for the purpose of mountig the tab to mount the bottle to the strut tower. Had me going.. It says on the tank itself to use a miller tool to refill...I called 2 dealers and they never heard of a miller tool...Makes you ... Read More
I just fill up the resivior on my 99 and then start the car once the thermostat opens squeeze the upper radiator hose to force out air pockets
Has anyone used a miller tool to refill the coolant. it says on the overflow jug to use one , it is impossible to fill without this tool . where can i get one and how does it work ?
The 2001 and 1997 are two different types of intrepids. The original LH models (Intrepid/Vision/Concorde) run ended with the 1997 models. The second generation started with the 1998s. The engines are completely different. I think changing the 3.2 into a 1997 would be a lot of trouble. You need to get an engine from one of the first generation models.
Will an 2001 intrepid 3.2 engine fit in a 97 intrepid and will the computer connections work? I want to buy one, but don't know if it will fit.
I was wondering if anyone can post some links to fair honest places that sell rebuilt Transmissions for a 2001 Dodge Intrepid? (2.7 block if that matters) Thanks in advance for any help.
I just recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Intrepid Se w/ 225k on it, the car had only 1 owner and that was a company, the maintainance on it seems to be very up to par, the body, engine, tranny all seem to be smooth, i just wander what i should be looking for as far as issues?
The 3.2 is an American engine, built by Chrysler. It's a smaller-displacement, all-aluminum version of the 3.5 that first came out in 1993. The 3.2 put out 225 hp and was used in the Intrepid ES and Concorde LXI models from 1998-2001, and then was replaced by a reduced hp version of the 3.5. Mitsubishi made a 3.0 V-6 that Chrysler used in their minivans, the Dodge Stealth, and some of ... Read More
i just bought a 2001 intrepid with a 2.7 engine and i had the same oil light problem but i had the engine flush twice inside so it clean up all the sludge and i put in a 5/20 syntetic oil and is been a week everything seems ok no more oil flicking at idle and the engine runs smooth.hope it helps what i did,bye Tony.
2001 Dodge Intrepid has water leaking onto the floor of driverís side of car. The car was taken to the Luther Brookdale Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge dealership. They said a gromet around the shift cable was out of position causing water to leak. They said they repositioned the shift cable gromet. Water is still leaking onto the floor of driverís side of car. The car was taken back to the Luther Brookdale Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge dealership. ... Read More
I have the same exact poblem. Water leaks onto the floor, drivers side during heavy rains. I can't figure out where it is coming in from. (2001 Dodge Intrepid) This needs to be fixed soon as it will surly rot the floor boards. Did you find the source of your leak??
I'd go with a 3.2 or a 3.5, instead of a 2.7. While the 2.7 in my Intrepid has been reliable, in some situations, such as long mountain grades, putting 3-4 additional passenger in it, etc, it tends to start straining. The 3.2 has 25 more hp and 35 more ft-lb of torque, which makes a big difference. And the 3.5 is better still, putting out anywhere from 234-250 hp, and ... Read More
I sent an email to D-C customer assistance, asking about just this topic. Here's the response I got... "Thank you for your e-mail regarding your 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The 2.7L V6 engine has a timing chain. DaimlerChrysler recommends that you have the chain inspected at approximately 105,000 miles to determine if it needs to be changed or adjusted. I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you ... Read More
I know the 1st generation Intrepids were notorious for having shitty a/c systems, I know from experience having owned two, a 94 and a 95 ES. I am considering continuing my Intrepid epic with the purchase of a 2001 SE (I'm getting an exceptional deal on the car) and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced problems with expansion valves or the compressors on the 2001 Intrepids?
I am not certain about the rest of the country, but here in the Kansas City area, every Dodge/Chrysler dealer is advertising 2001 Intrepid SE program cars for prices from $11,998 to $13,998, with most priced at the lower figure. Mileage on these cars runs from high teens to mid 20's. Some have power seats, but most come with just the standard items. Balance of factory warranty intact. Based on the ... Read More
Ok, why do all Intrepids, Concordes and such have bad windshields. I just recently received a 2001 Intrepid for a work car and have to turn it back in because of the windshield. What I mean is, did Dodge in there infinite wisdom polarize the windshield to the extreme to reduce glare or something. Its like looking through the old glass settled wavy windows at my granmothers house. I thought it ... Read More
I agree with you, it's an interesting comparo. It comes up only because I came to Dodge after having owned three Hondas. We have a 2001 Honda Accord EX for the wife now. I've always been a Honda guy but decided to give Dodge a try a few years ago and didn't look back until the new Acura TL series came out....I'm planning on test-driving the TL-S and the Intrepid R/T ... After looking at a used 1997 Eagle Vision TSi at my local Dodge dealer for my wife I finally have decided to pass on it. It seemed nice and all but I wasn't sure about reliability and resale value after driving it for 3 years or so. So I decided to look at something else. I saw a 2001 Intrepid with Steel Blue pearl coat and the nice looking alloy sixteen ... Read More
Hey gang, I just got this snippet from my Mopar mailing list... "For those interested: Dodge will be back in the squad business for 2002. For 2002 and 2003 the Intrepid police package will be FWD and have the 3.5L-V6. For 2004 the new Intrepid will see police service as a RWD police package with the 353 V8. Mopar is doing this for 2002 and 2003 to prepare for the real ... Read More

Hey Gang. It's been a while. Just wanted to bring you up to speed on my 2000 Intrepid ES. On February 13th, an elderly neighbor ran a stop sign and we "met by accident". In what can only be described as "precision driving"--she ran the stop sign and I impacted her Dodge Caravan in the mid section. Yup--we put the "T" in "T-Bone". Luckily neither of us was going more than ... Read More
Picked up my new 2001 Intrepid SE last night. It is black with charcoal interior. I totally love this car!!!! Believe me when I tell you I am picky. Comming out of a BMW 528i lease into this without looking back. I think the value of this car is outstanding. I'm astounded by the quality. I want to live in the backseat and sleep in the trunk. Dealership experience was first ... Read More
I am trying to figure out which vehicle would be better overall to buy, Dodge Intrepid, Pontiac Grand Pix, or a Chewy Blazer. If anyone has any major problems or knows of any defects please let me know. I will be putting approx 2,000-3,000 miles a year on it. Thanks!!
Hi folks, my first post here. I am considering purchasing a new Intrepid.(probably an R/T and I wish they made a coupe) I am attracted by the styling, interior room (I am a large guy..read fat) and price as there are usually incentives. I cannot afford to buy a new vehicle very often and this car would be replacing an almost 12 year old Chevy truck (89)which has served me quite ... Read More

Still love my 99 Intrepid, too. My wife and I drove a Durango RT a few weeks back to cash in on a $50 test drive coupon good for Dodge accessories or service. We drove a 2001 RT and an SLT, and decided the RT package wasn't really worth the extra $1,200 or so. Overall, we were very impressed- quiet, comfortable, lots of great features and big but not too big. ... Read More
FYI, the plant that makes Intrepid's is but one that has been "temporarily shutdown" due to sluggish sales. This could not have come at a worse time since I am shopping around for a deal on a 2001 Intrepid R/T. Dealers are now stating that they cannot deal on a car that is not being made, at least temporarily. I have to order the car anyway, it just might take a ... Read More
I've mentioned here before that my parents have an early production 99 300M, now with about 30,000 miles on it. I've driven it a number of times and I think the assertion that the 300M is of better build quality than an Intrepid is utter BS. While my folks like their 300, it has had a number of "build" problems that have needed correction, far more than my lowly Intrepdi. The ... Read More
