  • Fuel leaking

    Written by: lipstix30 on Dec 15, 2009 2:49:40 PM

My 2001 Dodge Intrepid ES leaks fuel whenever I start the car. When I turn the car off, there's no leakage at all. My husband kind've looked under the hood and noticed some type of glass case which he thinks may be the fuel pump or something and thinks it may be cracked. Has anyone else heard of this or have any suggestions?

I drove my 2001 Intrepid SE 129,000 miles with no serious problems with the 2.7l engine, outside of having to replace the water pump at about 95,000 miles. I traded it for a new Honda Odyssey as I needed more passenger and luggage space for long trips. It was the best car I'd ever owned. To prevent problems with engine sludging, I changed oil every 5000 miles using 5w20 full synthetic ... Read More

If it didnt there would be no need for a pressurized cap, actually you wouldnt need a cap at all. The 2001 and 1997 are two different types of intrepids. The original LH models (Intrepid/Vision/Concorde) run ended with the 1997 models. The second generation started with the 1998s. The engines are completely different. I think changing the 3.2 into a 1997 would be a lot of trouble. You need to get an engine from one of the first generation models.

The 3.2 is an American engine, built by Chrysler. It's a smaller-displacement, all-aluminum version of the 3.5 that first came out in 1993. The 3.2 put out 225 hp and was used in the Intrepid ES and Concorde LXI models from 1998-2001, and then was replaced by a reduced hp version of the 3.5. Mitsubishi made a 3.0 V-6 that Chrysler used in their minivans, the Dodge Stealth, and some of ... Read More

I'd go with a 3.2 or a 3.5, instead of a 2.7. While the 2.7 in my Intrepid has been reliable, in some situations, such as long mountain grades, putting 3-4 additional passenger in it, etc, it tends to start straining. The 3.2 has 25 more hp and 35 more ft-lb of torque, which makes a big difference. And the 3.5 is better still, putting out anywhere from 234-250 hp, and ... Read More
