Still love the intrepid

1998 Dodge Intrepid 4 Dr ES Sedan
Review
I bought my 1998 Intrepid ES new in 1998. After 321,000 miles I still love this car. It still runs well even though it's beginning to show it's age. If Dodge still made them, I would buy another without a second thought.
Favorite Features
Comfort, reliability, styling and fuel economy for a large car, It's also great in the snow.
Suggested Improvements
Front brake rotors wear out too frequently. Nose of the car chips easliy from road debris.
Decent.... Not reliable

I had this car for 2 years. First let me say, while the car was running, I loved this car, but For the first 6 months the car seemed to be doing great, then after that, problem upon problem upon problem. I bought this car for $3000 and put probably another $3000-5000 in it for problems. In the end the head gasket went and I was done with this car, got a 2000 Mustang, love it! This car looks great, very comfortable, when it ran, it ran great, nice power, on the 3.2 engine at least. I love the looks of the car and the size, I love big cars, but I just had way too many problems with this thing.
Favorite Features
Looks, comfort, power on 3.2L, size, not bad on gas at all for the size of the car
Suggested Improvements
Needs to be more reliable

I love this car! It has been very reliable with no big repair problems. I have put two new starters on it and it is using about a quart of oil /1000 miles. The mileage is 20 mpg in town and on the road. It rides with a soft ride and is easy to drive. It has no big problems that I know of. The color makes it look classy and the style of the body is very sporty. I just want a newer car with dependability--or I would keep it!
Favorite Features
It looks sporty and I love to drive it! It has a good radio, console is comfortable and the seats fit well.
Suggested Improvements
That it be new! That it get better mileage.
Worst Vehicle I've Owned

Review
This was the worst vehicle I have ever owned. The second Dodge product and the last one! The engine died at 92,000 and a replacement one is 5-6k. The entire car isn't worth that! The 2.7 liter engine is horrible. Needless to say this one needs to be junked!

The most recent 4 vehicles of my wife's and mine have been Chrysler products so I looked for another when someone rammed my Dodge Stratus (that I drove for 218,000 miles). I was able to find this Intrepid through the AutoTrader.com link from Edmunds while I was evaluating a Dodge Neon. The Intrepid is a remarkably smooth riding vehicle, especially considering that I purchased it used with 96,000 miles on it. I drive 45 miles one way on country New England roads each day and suffer from a fractured pelvis, the ride of the Intrepid is so smooth that I am able to handle the commute easily. The 2.7liter V6 engine has remarkable pick up and cruise ability. Handling in snow and rain is also great.
Favorite Features
The interior design is incredibly comforting.I like the way the turn signal/wiper control has a contoured groove designed to fit your finger as you are able to use it without taking your hand off the wheel.3 of my children can fit comfortably in the back seat with the front back all the way.
Suggested Improvements
I have so many compliments for the car that it is hard to think of improvements. I would like to have cup holders in the back and the cup holders in the front could be designed better.

This car is real cool, i love it. I just had a tranny problem but that was my own fault. I mean it is a little bigger than I like but the AC and heater are great and I love the leather. Oh and the 225hp is great
Favorite Features
225hp, leather seats, plenty of room, huge trunk
Suggested Improvements
Heated seats, better CD player

Fast enough to get you a hefty speeding ticket but not fast enough to outrun a police cruiser! This car is quite good if you take care of it. Yes it doesn't run like a $50000 luxury model but what did you expect? Good value for a large car. Ask around your town for opinions about local dealers, I've had good service where I've bought it but bad experiences with the ability of other dealerships to perform maintenance when I'm out of town,
Favorite Features
Good capacity, comfortable, fast. 7 years old and still looks sporty. Getting more than 200~225 horsepower is a bit unnecessary unless you plan to race. Much, much better than previous Ford products I owned.
Suggested Improvements
Like other reviewers I agree that the brake rotors need to be serviced frequently, road noise is louder than expected, and the paint gets chipped on the hood.

My 98 Intrepid
Vehicle
1998 Dodge Intrepid 4 Dr ES Sedan
Review
I purchased this 1998 Intrepid used from a Buick Dealership. This being my first Chrysler purchase, I was astonished at this vechicle. The car has NASCAR looks about her and handles excellent. Having owned several Corvettes and numerous muscle cars in my past, I still can't get over the value Chrysler has packaged into this low priced domestic automobile. In the future, Chrysler will be my first consideration when purchasing my next vechicle. I love my Intrepid!
Favorite Features
Hard core NASCAR looks, along with superior handling. It's economical to drive, and has lots of room for guests.
Suggested Improvements
Make leather interior a standard in all Intrepid cars. The leather goes along with the race car look of the Intrepid. Chrysler missed out when they allowed the cloth interior. It's like you don't wear sneakers with a tuxedo!
Intrepid- well maintained

With synthetic oil and transmission fluid this car served me well for seven years. Problems seen with this vehicle are generally due to following the recommended oil change schedule. 7000 miles is too long for normal oil and will get you sludge buildup. I had no sludge with synthetic oil. It still looks good and goes reasonably fast.
Favorite Features
Good looks. Good highway gas mileage, up to 31 mpg on trips.
Suggested Improvements

I loved it, when I bought it
Vehicle
1998 Dodge Intrepid 4 Dr ES Sedan
Review
I really loved this car when I bought it, but at 61,000 miles, I believe it is going to be a service department's gold mine. I've had the left front hub assembly replaced, it has been recalled 3 times, it has just started mis-firing when you start it up and when driving at highway speeds and the brakes are applied, the steering wheel starts shaking, I was told if the tie- rods have to be replaced, the engine has to be removed, Jeez..its time for it to go....
Favorite Features
Overhead console, and the stereo, very comfortable
Suggested Improvements
Better paint, more engine compartment room
