This is a very common and widely known issue with Dodge Grand Caravans. I have had mine repaired twice and now neither door can open and is not even able to be opened up on the inside. This is a major safety concern that should have been recalled a long time ago. I feel that a law firm should get a hold of this and file a Class Action Lawsuit against ... Read More
I took my grnd caravan to the dealer and 800 bucks later they had replaced a small leaky hose. (I never saw anything leaking and never needed to fill the reservoir). It seemed to be better but still the whine was noticeable. Now it is very loud and the wheel turns hard sometimes. I removed the reservoir and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. Refilled with ATF +4. Same thing, loud ... Read More
Regular maintenance is important, especially the transmission fluid. Use only Mopar fluid recommended in the service manual. In fact, I would only get the transmission serviced at a Chrysler dealer. Good luck with your vehicle.
I just bought a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT from a dealer with 72,218 miles on it. It's really clean with a clean carfax and it drives really well. It comes with a 6 cd changer, satellite radio, sto go, automatic doors, no dvd. No dents, overall very clean, no crazy sounds, very smooth ride etc... Comes with a 90 day warranty powertrain.... I paid $8943 out the door after taxes, ... Read More
I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan that is having that problem and the magically opening on its own problem. I have tried a year now to get it fixed and after 6 months it keeps messing up. Around February I was told my beloved van had a dangerously rusted engine cradle and I shouldn't drive it anymore. While I didn't feel ready to get something new my husband insisted we trade in his truck to get me a new van. So, van shopping we went and I knew it would take something special for me to change my mind. Well, we stubbled upon a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan ... Read More
The front blower for heater/air conditioner stopped working on all speeds. I surmised it was the resistor pack unit mounted behind the glove box, as others have mentioned. I first unplugged the two connectors to this unit and removed it, then temporarily connected battery to the blower terminals to make sure the blower motor worked, which it did. I decided to buy a new resitor pack, and I installed the new ... Read More
I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan and I experienced the same whining noise as most are stating on this page. The Rack & Pinion Assembally is shot. I had this confirmed by the daelership and a couple of service stations. This is an ongoing issue and just may result in a recall in the future. Hang onto your receipts. This is a very premature wearing of the Rack & Pinion ... Read More
I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 2006, when ever we drive on the highway we get this loud noise in the engine, very annying humming noise, does not stop even after getting off the high way. It does not do it if we just drive on local roads. Our mechanic said he is going to replace the steering wheel fluid and if that does nto work he will have to replace ... Read More
we have had a whistling/whining noise in the steering when stopped after traveling 60 miles or so at highway speed. Has Dodge had a problem with the rack and pinion?
Wow, I'm stunned at the issues you've had with your van; to say that your experience is different than ours is an understatement. Our first DGC (a 1998 3.8 liter Sport model) went some 170,000 miles with very little maintenance, and our second, a 2003 3.8 liter ES model is currently north of 130,000 miles and has only needed two unscheduled repairs, the first being an ABS wheel sensor, and the ... I too have a2006 Grand Caravan SXT. I have been having troubles one right after another with it! It all started with the tires on the van. I got a total of 12000 miles on the tires and they were beyond worn out! I bought a new Town & Country in 2005. I took it back to the dealership after the first few days, telling them there was something wrong with the brakes. I was told it was just brake dust because they were new. I had to have brake pads, calipers, and rotors before 6000 miles. This happened again before 11000 miles and again at 15000. The car was a lemon so I ... Read More
I posted this under the dealership reviews, but thought I would repost here in case anyone has advice. Thanks! I have a major safety concern with my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, which is still under warranty. I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with a leak in the rear A/C evaporator. I have been told it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get a replacement as there are over 6000 of these units on backorder. I can't help but think with this kind of failure rate that these are defective products and should be on recall. The car is about 8000 miles out of warranty. I ... Read More
Think of the cash allowance as a contribution to your down payment. Negotiate the price of the van first, and ignore any references to the allowance until you are done. The allowance comes from Chrysler not the dealer, and it shouldn't be considered part of the dealer's contribution to the negotiation.
You should be able to do much much better than 29500 on a sticker of 30,910. You're basically inviting them to stick it to you. Research the prices paid and negotiate much harder than you are. You should be around 26,500 inc. the rebate.
Read someone else's post and forgot to mention 12k/ year and for 36-month lease. Thanks
Carman, If I wanted to get an a lease amount for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with a couple of options. The MSRP is $30,910. I will be negotiating for the selling price of $29,500. There is a cash allowance of $2500 until June 2. How would the cash allowance work? Do you also take that off the final selling price and use that price when calculating the lease amount? ... Welcome patdepdry. That lease payment does sound pretty high. We're talking about a Dodge here, not a BMW or a Mercedes-Benz. The best way to get a good deal on a new vehicle is to negotiate as low a selling price as you can on it and then have the dealer calculate your monthly payment using its buy rate lease money factor. Try to get a selling price that's as close ... Read More

I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with 21000 miles and have been following the maintenance logbook. The dealer is recommending a "fuel service" and four wheel alignment (neither of which appear in the log). Are these useful as routine maintenance (or a way for the service department to make some extra money)?
I consider my transmission "bad" because a $30,000.00 van should not be "annoying" or "not comfortable" the $12,000.00 KIA i rented last week shifted smoooooth as silk every time, i guess im just expecting too much from my $30,000.00 Chrysler. Hello Car-man (and anyone else who can help!). We are looking at a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravaan, MSRP of $31,500 (lots of nice toys on it). We would trade in our 2002 Chrsyler T&C (good condition, has a DVD). They are quoting us $429 per month for a 39 month lease with 18000 miles per year. Does this seem like a good deal? We live in Pittburgh Pa.

Welcome brum. If you were to lease a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT through Chrysler Financial right now for 39 months with 15,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value should be .00116 and 43%, respectively. The money factor for a lease with only 12,000 miles per year would be the same, but the residual value would be 2% higher. When negotiating your lease on this ... Read More
well, I bought a 06 DGC SXT, but I did pay attention to leasing option, too. During memorial day, I saw one of my local dealer has a leasing offer like $249 a month for 27 month with zero down. I think that is a pretty good offer. $364 for 39 months? definitely too high!
Hi, this is my first post so please bear with me. We are looking at a 39 month lease, zero down, 12k or 15k per miles per year. It is an SXT with 3.8 and MSRP of $27,830. frogger123 bravely asked for a flurry of opinion: "Does this Forum think that Castrol is one of the best Dino oils?" Who knows? Once upon a time, Castrol, as a European oil, was one of the few oils whose cans indicated it passed obscure European and Japanese test requirements that were more severe (due to overhead cam designs and higher rpm) than those for American cars (due to cam-in-block ohv designs ... Just purchased a new 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT for my dad. He and my mom are retirees who like the flexibility of a minivan. He owned a 1997 Grand Caravan that was up 108,000 miles (he purchased it used in 2002 when it had 58,000). It had some problems, mostly electrical. Still, he loved it and it was trouble free up until around 90k. Anyway, we shopped for months, including ... Read More
I beleive it is the trim packages and mouldings between the Dodge and Chrsyler. I ran into the same thing when I bought my Dodge Grand Caravan last year. The Town and Country priced out higher but the engine, transmission and features where the same expect for the body mouldings and interior trim packages.
I'm looking to buy a 2006. I need the tow package and these look identical although Dodge seems a little less expensive. Am I missing something as to why the Chrysler costs more? Thanks for replying
Edmunds has pricing on all 2006 Caravan, Grand Caravan, and Town & Country while the official web sites for Dodge and Chrysler have nothing. Many DC dealers have sold out their 2005 minivan inventory and will probably lose sales to Toyota or Honda when no minivans are available for sale and no information is available from DaimlerChrysler.
DaimlerChrysler still makes the short wheel base Dodge Caravan and appears, per Edmunds, to be continuing that model for 2006 model year. We have had two Dodge short wheel base minivans, my wife drives it most of the time, in our family since 1985. Our current one is a 1996 SE Sport with the 3.3 L V-6. We like it for its all around utility in a fairly compact package. Won't ... Read More
Anyone can tell me what a fair price to offer a dealer for a new DGC SXT ( Standard Equip) would be. Reading a lot about this employee pricing.
