This has been a love hate relationship. My wife and I love the design and layout of this van. We have the SXT 3.8L with every option except leather. Unfortunately ours has been plagued with problems. We purchased the van as a certified used with only 22,000 miles on it.
If I had known everything I know now about these vans I would have kept looking. After reading other reports and through my own experience with this vehicle the 2005 seems to be one of the worst. Avoid this year if possible. This is my last Dodge, never again.
We love the room, the folding rear seats, and the stow-n-go. Never having to remove a seat is wonderful. We have the rear DVD system which my kids love on trips as well as the quad seating. This is a very comfortable vehicle to drive on trips also. The van drives well and has good power. I also like this design much better than the new square design.
Here are the things we have had problems with. We have had several electrical issues with the power windows and locks. Knocking and banging sounds in the front end fixed twice and doing it again. Leaking water pump replaced, leaking steering rack, replaced. Various A/C leaks early on. Then at 68,xxx the A/C compressor locked up sending metal fragments through out the A/C system. Transmission is now downshifting hard from 4th to 3rd. And now the engine has started using oil. It uses about a quart every 1500 miles. From what I am reading it will only get worse. Dodge says it is considered acceptable to use up to a quart every 1000 miles.
Dodge may replace engine but we may trade it anyway.
