2001 Dodge Grand Caravan ES Fwd 4dr Minivan (3.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Bought van used with 40k on it and an orig. sticker of $32,900 Gave $15,000 for it used. Go Dodge ! For some reason I still love this van. I guess because you can haul the world in it. Problems include A/C clutch bearing went bad, can't get a new bearing so we need whole new compressor. 900 bucks. Power rear lift and driver side sliding door have minds of their own. Infinity stereo e.q. has short do not move it or else! After a run up in the N. Georgia Mts the tranny isnt the same. It groans and whines like it's on its last leg. That was 15k ago and it's still coming back for more. When the engine is cranked after sitting overnight this van sounds like a Deere not Dodge. Van now has 91K.

Favorite Features

Engine, great power and smoothness. Decent MPG. Killer Stereo. Rear split bench. 3 zone A/C. 17in. wheels and Mich. tires. 3 door programable garage door openers. Interior space and comfort. Very road friendly, easy to maneuver and drive.

Suggested Improvements

Scrap or improve power lift hatch and side doors. Make tranny a smidge more bulletproof. Longer warranty.

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan EX Fwd 4dr Minivan (3.8L 6cyl 4A)

Review

We bought our van used in Sep. 03 with only 37K. It has been very reliable for us with only two non maintainence minor issues. Right after purchase, both front power window regulators and motors had to be replaced. We've had some suspension work done at around 55K. Both covered under warrenty. So far, we have had to replace a gas cap, battery, and soon both rear cargo door gas lifters from being to weak to lift the cargo door in cold weather by automatic. (Will open manually with no problem). Right now we get about 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. This was a good choice for us and am very pleased with our purchase.

Favorite Features

Smooth, stiff, well controled and quit ride. Power of the 3.8L engine. Space and seat comfort. Power rear lift gate and side door. Easy out rollers on second and third row seats. Guage cluster and lighted controls at night. Center consel, rear storage orginizer, crank down spare. Safety features

Suggested Improvements

Better front suspension parts that don't wear before 60K. Third row center head rest with should belt.

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan SE Fwd 4dr Minivan (3.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Overall the minivan has been very reliable and practicle. Bought with 35k miles from dealer, zero problems. ride quality is good and interior comfort is adequite. Fuel economy is almost too good and the van handles very well. Overall for the price you probably wont find better. I would definintly recommend. (the 3.8 would add more power.)

Favorite Features

It looks great, runs well, no problems.

Suggested Improvements

More power (the 3.8 would probably add it) better quality interior.

Review

Drives great, poor gas mileage (16-19mpg. The engine is great. At 60,000, failure of side door electric motor, and air conditioner compressor. I am happy for the extended warranty from 1source warranty. Future consideration would be not to buy this vehicle considering a Honda Odyssey. What I wish on this vehicle is an intermittent horn which would actually work. Otherwise, I am happy with the workmanship on this vehicle.

Favorite Features

The bundled feature, 3.8 liter engine, power door, tinted window and rear air. The one thing I thought I would not like is the center console with that can be moved from the front to the back. The brakes are a great feature, all wheel disk brakes.

Suggested Improvements

Intermittent horn, more compartments 8 passenger seating, and a moon roof. I think the headlamps could be improved. Otherwise leave the car alone.

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport Fwd 4dr Minivan (3.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Having purchaed a 1993 Dodge Caravan that gave us 8 years of trouble free service we did not hesitate to get a new one in 2001. However, while very comfortable it has proved to be a mechanically poor buy. We have purchased a new alternator, many rotors, the A/C is gone, and it now needs a new transmission, water pump, and a number of other more minor repairs. I would not recommend this vehicle I am sorry to say.

Favorite Features

Very comfortable seats. Peppy for its size. Can tow very well.

Suggested Improvements

Better rear view and better mechanical quality.
