Best SUV ever
Vehicle
2005 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A)
Review
This suv is the best SUV I have ever owned. I have driven a Chevy Suburban, Jeep Liberty and other sedans. Those were good, but this Durango has an extrememly smooth drive, powerful engine (without hemi), comfortable seats and good sound system. I love that the back doors open so wide which makes for easy storage and entrance. I have never had a single problem with this vehicle. A month after I bought the durango, my wife drove it and she bought one! Good to travel in and has great pick up. Also great in the Cleveland snow! Love it!
Favorite Features
Wide openeing back doors, pick-up, quality and comfort. Also has easy folding seats for more storage
Suggested Improvements
Fuel economy, which needs to improve over the whole big SUV market, foreign and domestic.

Should Consider another Manufacturer

Review
I bought this vehicle at the end of 2005 when they were running the model year clearance. I had some negitive equity from another vehicle so the $6000 in rebates was great, however the depreciation on this vehicle is horribly. It nearly halved in value is first year. I am now two years into a 3 year lease and i am being offered my lease payout as my trade in value. I also have about 33,000 miles on the vehicle and both fron seat base cowlings are cracked near seatbelt attachments, the vehicle has stalled several times for no reason, the motor has a clicking lifter, and my fuel mileage keeps getting worse. Beware of the oh so good looking deal. Think twice before you buy.
Favorite Features
Nice ride, lots of room, great in the snow
Suggested Improvements
Reliability, this vehicle was the #1 recalled vehicle in the country right along with the dodge ram at number 3. Get rid of the high incentives or lower the MSRP of the vehicle to save huge depreciation in first several years.

Review
I've owned for nearly 2 years overall never any major problems. The closest thing to any problem was the CD- changer speed slowed down but has been repaired. Overall still impressed that the Hemi in city still averages 19.2 - 20.6 mpg with no mods going 35-45mph stop n' go. Seamlessly tows, smooth ride, nice acceleration a nice vehicle for family and people that like to tow their wheeled toys around.
Favorite Features
Effortless towing, Hemi power, sunroof, infinity system, center storage console, headlamps are quite bright
Suggested Improvements
Suede inserts, more chrome, more towing technologies, more variety of dash

My husband and I wanted a Durango for years so we decided to purchase one a 1 1/2 yr ago. We did not have any major problems with this vehicle until around 25,500 miles on it. Now we are experiencing stalling periodically, a loud noise in the front left tire/engine under the vehicle area, and a loose felling in the steering. The rack and pinion has been replaced twice and it has been in the shop around 15 days in a 4 week period. I can't imagine that a certified mechanic can not hear the noise in the front and not being able to fix the problem. Not including the fact that the vehicle stalls when you least expect it. Very scary.
Favorite Features
The appearance of the Durango is beautiful. The feeling of security while driving it is important when no mechanical issues are lingering.
Suggested Improvements
Gas mileage needs improvement for future purchases. When there is a noise in a vehicle there should be a solution especially if the vehicle is covered under warranty. If stalling is an issue that is serious and could case huge liability claim.

I bought this vehicle in Feb of 2006 and could not be happier! The vehicle runs great. All problems have been covered by the awesome warranty.
Favorite Features
Look, engine (plenty of power), Rear air (makes in nice and cold), stock CD player.
Suggested Improvements
Gas mileage! (But overall not too bad for a V8 SUV)

This SUV was purchased with 38600 miles, but runs like a new vehicle. It is far superior to my previous Pathfinder in ride and performance. The interior is spacious and well designed. My next vehicle will be a Durango as well.

Love the Hemi, powerfull yet quiet. Great for coastal roads and long hauls. Gets better mileage with speed, so I suggest investing in a radar detector.
Favorite Features
Love the Hemi, but dislike the mileage that goes with it. Good AWD. Nice overall room, loads up well for trips. Traction is great on windy roads. Hauls trailers, wheelchairs, etc. well and powerfully. A/C is nice and cold. Nice height, visability is good.
Suggested Improvements
Wish it had dual front air controls. The doors are a bit heavy. Would have liked a tailgate window that opens, rather an opening the entire back end.

Love the looks, interior build quality is great, 3rd row of seats is big enough for 2 adults and with those folded down we can store a ton of stuff. Been on a few very long journeys and it has driven well. Smooth, DVD player in the back has kept the kids happy. But after 18,000 the transmission completely siezed on my wife and we had to get a whole new one. Now lost confidence in the car and then had a product recall (# G07). Thankfully just leasing so will return the SUV next summer and run like mad from the dealership. It's a real shame as I loved it for the first 18 months.
Favorite Features
Looks, ride quality, interior, 3rd row of seats, storage.
Suggested Improvements
A transmission failure after 18,000 is unacceptable.

I love my Durango and my wife says it's the only kind of vehicle that I'm ever allowed to purchase her. Be warned though, gas mileage stinks!
Favorite Features
My favorite feature is the engine.
Suggested Improvements
Make AC blower more powerful.
