    I hear that! My main car is a BMW 2001 X5. It has 174000 miles on it and still runs like a dream. Dodge could learn a lot from a quality auto maker. they just make junk.

    I took my Durango to a transmission place and had the transmission oil and filter changed, so far it has solved the problem. Why couldn't the Dodge dealership figure this out? After I spent 7 days at the dealership and $1,200 plus they replaced a $1,000 part under warranty.

    The main issue have here is a BAD DEALER!!! Automotive technicians range from outstanding to horrible and they all work at dealerships. Many dealerships are interested in quick fixes because they want to move a volume of vehicles through their service bays to keep profits up. Hard problems they will BLAME on the vehicle owners.     You really need to file a complaint with the NTHSB about what happened. I've been down that same mountain road many times on my way to Florida and its dangerous enough when your vehicle is functioning properly.     My next step would be to check the fan motor itself. If you're lucky, it may just be crudded up and in need of a good cleaning. At worst, you may need to replace it due to damaged wiring, insulation or whatnot. tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper

    I think you'll need to replace the resistor pack. Melting leads means that too much current is flowing because the resistors can't handle the load. tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper

    It's usually your clockspring that causes the problem. However, your safest bet is to have it checked out at the dealer. I'm a dodge tech and have seen a few of these come in for this.

    MBB; We haul a 27 ft travel trailer with a hemi powered Durango. It does a really great job for us and gets reasonable gas mileage pulling the 5500 lbs as well (12.) We are pushing the edge of optimum wheelbase vs trailer length where I would suspect you would not be. We use a reese weight distributing hitch and a reese friction anit- sway. Good luck!

    I just purchased a 2005 Limited Durango. It came with the Mineral gray paint, heated seats, Sunroof, 2 speed transfer case, painted running boards, off road tires, trailer tow group, navagational system, side air bags, Hemi and Hemi engine.     I'm looking at a 2005 Durango Rwd 4-door SLT. Edmunds indicates that the base invoice is $26,690. The gents at the local California Dodge dealership are insisting that the base invoice is $26,979. The invoice pricing they have given me on all of our chosen options match up exactly to the Edmunds information. Has anybody else encountered this difference?

    does anyone know if the Durango will get the new variable displacement system now used on the Chrysler 300C, Dodge Magnum, and Jeep Grand Cherokee (2005) Hemi's? If it works as advertised (i.e. "seamless" transition between 4 cyl and 8 cyl operation)the system would be a real plus for fuel economy on the highway.
