My brother has a 2003 Saturn, 4 cylinder that has over 200K miles. My sister got 23OK out of her 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not all are bad but I understand your point. Will NHTSA really do something? Thank goodness I was not on a highway when the engine blew.

There are so many of of with the same story of our $35- 40K vechicles becoming lawn ornaments just out of warranty. Please file a complaint on NHTSA.gov web site, Hopefully they will take notice. I sold mine to a junkyard....I will NEVER buy and American vechicle again.

I agree Jeff. Luckily, I purchased a warranty along with my 04' Durango. The Warranty Company located a used low mileage (35,000 miles) 08' motor which was installed. The truck has run great since the exchange. I will add, now that I know this is such an issue and class action probably won't work, we all should take Chrysler to Small Claims Court. File for the maximum claim limit and see ... Read More

The older "LA" type engines are obsolete because they cannot meet the more strict EPA emissions. This is why the new 4.7 and 5.7(hemi) were developed. I am trying to. I have contacted Millberg Class action litigators in NY. They are looking into it. Find them on the web (Millberg.com) and give your support please. Dodge has to pay for what they have done to their customers. I can't justify a $6000 repair on an engine that does not even have 100k on it...and a car that is not even worth that much.

The sound seems to come from the exhaust system just in front of the transmission and lasts from 8 to12 seconds. 5.7Lhemi w/164,000 miles. Any ideas ?? Exaust gasket, cat converter, erg system?? I think it has 110,000 miles. But a engine should last longer than that. I just had it towed home from the city where my daughter lives. Was your truck still under warranty? I wonder if Chrysler would help me with another engine? They said there was no pressure in one of the chambers or compression or something to that nature.

We called Chrysler and they are willing to help me with the cost of a new engine....I am thinking the dealership is trying to "mark - up" their costs. My Durango was still under the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty. Yes the exact same thing happened. THe valve stem broke and the rod dropped into the block. After about 2 weeks, without any questions, Dodge put in a rebuilt motor. The coupon was mailed to me by Chrysler through by my local dealer. Farm Bureau Insurance used to give a $500 discount coupon on certain Dodge products if you were insured by them. They have now switched to GM and I don't know if the Dodge is still included. Hope this helps.

I'd ask the techs at the Tire Rack. It's usually either 5x100 or 5x114, something like that. Probably the latter for a heavy truck like yours. Other issues like offset are also important, though, so just because the bolt pattern is corrent does not mean they won't rub or have other issues.

Charlese, I just went through the same thing with my 04. The dealer told me the instrument cluster shorted out along with the light swith relay. It costs $500. I hope you are still under warranty. 2004 DURANGO REAR END GONE--HELP!!
Yesterday my 2004 Durango with 41,000 mi. stopped with a bang. Thought I had a blowout but found the front of the driveshaft on the ground. I thought rear end had locked up due to 75 ft of skid marks. Also, two 1" square tubes on front inside of rear tires were broke and about 3" apart. We have a 2001 and had pretty much the same problem. We put a new gas cap on it and no longer had check engine light come on. Gas cap was bad and leaking air into fuel system.

Hi. My 2004 is doing the same thing. Weird to see the dash lights and locks go wild when I open the door. The battery died today and attempting to start only brings severe clicking noise from the engine bay. Did you get a solution?

read my #47 then #58. Dodge dealer replaced the head on my 1999 Durango. Had it back for about 4 weeks now after replacing the head and it seems to be running fine now. bought it with 32K on it but can see by the previous owners paperwork it started at about 10,000 miles. Out of warrenty when I got it. Now at 8oK and cost me $1400. Runs good now ... Read More

Update on 2004 Dodge Durango Engine Malfunction
Well, my truck has been in the shop all week. They had to switch out a cylinder head. At 10,000 miles!???? Unbelievable! I'm picking it up today. Well see if it still runs the same after having the engine ripped apart. They say it was a factory defect. I just wonder if anyone else has this problem?

They replaced a chip for my air conditioning not working per a service buliten, The car wouldn't start they replaced alrm module which fixed the engine not starting. One call one fix. Regarding the 2004 Durango Limited Automatic Temp Control (ATC), here was one version of a fix: ATC fix was intermittent power connection at the Fuse Block for the "IDC" connection/fuse as installed at the factory. Advice - 2004 leftover Durango SLT
I happend by a local Dodge dealer in my area and saw that they had a 2004 SLT brand new, never titled and loaded sitting on their lot. MSRP $39,105. They say they can "Let it go" for $28,000. Good deal or not? (2005's w/similiar options and special pricing still around 33,000) Any advantages or disadvantages to this deal, other than the 2004 its almost 2 years old. Thanks

So far the AC has been recharged, the overhead compass/temp has been replaced, and infrared sensor and compressor module have been replaced. The dealership said they don't know what else to do. Wow, you're getting 18 mpg in the city? Is that from the car computer or is that hand calculated? My 2004 Limited w/Hemi only gets 13 city (mixed street/expressway, and a tiny bit of freeway) and up to 20 highway (flats, less than 70 mph). We were told by the sales manager at our local dealership that with this particular promotion the dealer was being given 5500 by Dodge to move the '04 Durango's out. When we made the purchase they took the 5500 off of the Friends and Family price then assessed the tax. We live in Southern Ohio but I believe this is a nationwide promotion.

Having owned 3 Chrysler/Dodge minivans, I opted this time for the 2004 Limited 4x4 Durango. Great move!! Love the hemi and the ride is smooth and VERY stable. Got the $5500 off invoice. There are still some '04's out there. If you keep them forever like I do, it's a great buy.

A sweet deal...I think.
I just got a Black 2004 Durango Limited with Hemi. It was a demo/corporate car. It had 14,600 miles on it. It has everything except side airbags and the optional gearing. It also had a few scratches on the front and a tiny tear in the rear door handle. The price was $29,995.00 from Wayne Dodge dealership. So far so great! I'll keep the board updated on how it runs.
