Thank you for your reply..........I have called a few Dodge Dealerships in the area (for the record, the dealership that I bought this from wasn't a Dodge dealership and......let's just say that I doubt that the techs there could put a "Mr. Potato Head" together, let alone fixing a vehicle) Needless to say, the service guys I did speak with about this from Dodge seemed baffled, one DID suggest it could ... The shutting off and not starting for several minutes is possibly your computer (sorry) Basically the pcm shuts down and cools off then will restart. Many people wiggle the wire at the PCM and found ti will re-start. Dodge put a bad computer in these model durangos and will not recall it despite thousands and thousands with the same issue. You can possibly find one online much cheaper though that has ... Read More

2002 Dodge Durango. Help me! Shuts off while driving and won't re-start for
Written by: wrecked325 on Dec 10, 2009 8:39:00 PM
I bought this 2002 Durango 5.9 Magnum engine - 4 months ago with 81,000 miles on it, I put just over 4,000 since. It was running great, one day though, and this is my own fault, I ran out of gas. Since then this truck stalls without any warning while driving. It;s happened more then I can count! I replaced the fuel cap, I heard it could be a sensor, fuel ... Read More

Michael, Did you get anyone to reply about your problem ? I am getting a similar problem with my 2005 Durango Limited. But it started when I replaced the battery after about 48,000 miles. The first problem was a low tire pressure light that stays on and then a week later the cargo lamp light stays on unles I go and open and close the rear hatch once or twice. Thanks, ... Read More

I have 2002 Durango and have similiar sounds...my mechanic replaced an exhaust gasket on the driver's side and that seemed to make the noise go away. I was surprised because, like you, I was certain that it was a valve, push rod, or bearing gone bad. Same symptom....noisey when it started and tended to lessen as engine warmed up. Mechanic explained that the gasket would leak while engine was cold then ... Read More

AC relay switch located under dash on passenger side. Locate wires to underside of blower unit...unplug from blower. Remove two small bolts on outlet...pull downward and the outlet will come out or the blower box. This outlet has relay circuit board built into it...this is what needs to be replaced. Buy new part at Dodge dealer (aftermarket not yet available), install and plug wires to outlet. Should fix the problem. NOW...in ... Read More

2002 Dodge Durango SLT + cargo warning lamp
Written by: hollifm on Oct 27, 2007 7:10:32 PM
We just purchased a 2002 Dodge durango and found that it had a warning lamp for the "Cargo Lamp" that would blink occasionally. I looked in the manual and it had no reference to the "cargo lamp" which is located on the bottom right 2nd lamp on the instrument warning cluster. Could someone point me in the right direction to get this fixed. Thank You, Michael

2002 Dodge Durango braking problems...need help!

LOVE my 2004 Durango

I had a 2002 Durango and loved it, while finding it a bit pedestrian. It had the basic features I wanted - three rows, big but not too big, nice looks - but not all the "bells and whistles" that my 2000 JGC had, and that I like very much. I anxiously awaited the '04 Durango when I started looking for a new SUV in the fall of '03, and I ... Read More

I think the ratings to which Djolley is referring are Consumer Reports 2002 Buyer's Guide quality study. If memory serves me correctly, they rated both Honda and Toyota at either 18 or 19 problems per 100 vehicles. The entire DaimlerChrysler Group, minus Dodge Truck (sorry Djolley), was rated at 22 per 100. Dodge truck was about 24. All of the other American products were either flirting with 30 or over, including ... Read More

Have brake/engine problems been fixed?

We are looking for an SUV to be a combination family hauler and tow vehicle, towing 5500+ pounds several times a year, including over mountain passes. I have been looking seriously at Durangos, but am extremely alarmed at reports of "sludge buildup" engine failures and brakes/ABS so bad they cause rear-end crashes. My question- were either of these problems fixed for the 2001 model year? I am interested in a 2001 ... Read More
