That's interesting. I have a 2005 Dakota with the 4.7L and it of course only has 8 plugs. That's why I was puzzled.

Yes. In 08 Dodge added 8 more spark plugs. There are 8 plugs (primary) by the intake valves with an ignition coil on each plug. Then there are 8 plugs (secondary) by the exhaust valves. A spark plug wire runs from the respective ignition coil to these plugs. The 8 primary plugs need to be changed every 30,000 miles while the secondary plugs get changed every 120,000 miles.

4.7 liter V8, 4x4, automatic, 60,000 miles. Stalls whether idling or traveling down the highway at 70. No idiot lights come on. While coasting or stopped, cycle key from run to start and engine starts and dies. While stopped, put in park, turn key off and then normal starting procedure and engine starts and runs. Have had automatic shutoff relay replaced (only code that appears), all 16 spark plugs replaced, all ... Read More

You didn't mention the model and I assume you have the automatic transmission with your 4x4..in which case you will hav either the NV233HD or NV244HD transfer case, both are electronically shifted by the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module)...so you may have a selector switch (dash) or mode sensor issue, that needs replacing on the encoder motor in the transfer case. Read this article for a better description on how it ... Read More

The truck was sent back to a dodge dealer, they found a bad bushing that was pushing the rear seal out, they replaced the entire rear tailshaft housing and yep it was covered under the powetrain. They said it wasn't a common problem, but they had seen it before in that tranny.

Is that why on 2008 dakota there's a lifetime, unlimited miles warranty on their powertrain? I noticed it's not there anymore, probably too expensive. I wonder if they'd even honor that now with troubles and Fiat taking over. Maybe Dodge will get on board with a small deisel or gas saving engine by 2012. If not they'll be left behind. The Ram is awesome now for 2009, but those of us ... Read More

I'm getting ready to order a 2008 TRX4 Dodge Dakota (crewcab) with towing package, 3.92 gears, and full time 4 wheel drive. While looking at the Dakota brochure, it looks like if you order the part-time 4 wheel drive system you get the 9.25 axle and if you order the full-time 4 wheel drive, you get the 8.25 axle. Does anyone know why you would get a smaller axle size with ... Read More

2008 Frontier quote Truckin- All in all, the Frontier is easily one of the strongest contenders in the midsize class in my book. Though the Toyota Tacoma certainly has its fans, and is a formidable competitor in most respects, it lacks the eagerness and responsive, sporty edge that the Frontier has. Even with the Dodge Dakota offering an optional V8, and the Chevy Colorado about to, the 4.0L VQ engine provided ... Read More

Sunburn, The first one or two years of the 4.7 in a Dakota they used a 47 or 48mm throttlebody. In 2002 or 2003 that was increased to a 50mm. The camshafts are different for each year up to 2003. The 2003/2004 camshaft duration was changed to 243.5 degrees intake, 253.7 exhaust. I think that fuel delivery and timing algorithm changes permitted a decrease to valve overlap (17 degrees) for an ... Read More

No other mid size (tacoma, frontier, possilbly ridgeline) has anything said about a v8 and they have bigger dimensions and possibly just barely the space for a small one.
