I had a similar problem that requires replacing the multifunction switch / stalk in the steering column (see message 416-419). Here are websites for disassembling the steering column and replacing the switch unit. Be sure to disable the airbag in the steering. http://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-durango/83554-multifunction-switch.html http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dodge-Repair-809/2009/12/2005-dodge-dakota-multifunct- - - ion.htm http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dodge-Repair-809/2010/3/2007-Dodge-Dakota-Multi.htm http://www.justanswer.com/questions/4q1w-electrical-problem The part cost $66 http://www.wholesalemopar.com/parts_catalog-small.html?gclid=CN_buqbjw6ACFQldago- - - dJUsPbA type in "combo switch" for the part description. I just had the 42RLE auto trans on my 2006 Dakota changed out at 79K miles. I bought it new, light use, and had the Chrysler dealer do the trans fluid/filter at 30K and 60K, as recommended. I have an excellent (private) mechanic who changed it out for me. I'd rather not ever deal with the Chrysler corporation again. Google in "42RLE" and read about this trans. it wasn't built to ... Thanks so much for the information! I will definately look into it. Any idea how long it might take if they used the wrong fluid? Furtunately I bought additional coverage with the truck after having 2 Rangers die on me way too soon (reason for Dodge oh well...). But still it would be a good thing to get my money back for incorrect repairs. Thanks again!

Who did the fluid change? Sounds like they may have used the wrong fluid... Chrysler transmissions can not use Dexron, Mercon, or "universal" transmission fluid - they will die running those. You absolutely must use Chysler-spec ATF+4 (or if it's old enough, ATF+3 if +4 is unavailable - your 07 can only use +4). The dealer would never have used anything but ATF+4 - if an independent shop used the wrong ... Read More

My 2007 Dakota started lurching when shifting to first in traffic about 3 months after purchase. I took it in and they "upgraded" the software and the problem went away. A few months ago the same problem occured. Then 2 days ago it dropped from second to first while accelerating normally and just reved. I let up and it corrected. Next morning doing about 50mph it again dropped to first and ... Read More

I think you need to buy the regulator assembly, which includes the motor and the cable assembly. For my 2007 Caravan, that's around $75.00 from on-line places. If your Dakota is like my Caravan, then the cable assembly can be removed from the motor (it bolts to the motor housing with 3 bolts). But, you would have to go to a junk yard, pull the cable assembly or entire regulator from ... Read More

I will never buy another Dodge product.... Complaints of poor quality rotors was a problem from 2000-2003. Of course you went 49,000 miles between your second and third replacement. Without knowing how you drive, that could be very resonable. But poor rotor longevity complaints are common on many trucks. The Nissan Titan is definitately the worse I've ever seen. Wheel bearing problems are not very common on Dakotas. The blower motor ... Read More

It doesn't really matter what you find advertised. There is significant dealer cash on Dodge trucks for years. A 31000 Dakota (msrp) probably wholesales used in its 07 version for 18000 or less (kbb.com check it out) this figure is probably optimistic. This is what your 08 truck will trade in for in a year. You want at least $10000 off msrp on a Dodge Dakota. Preferably more. These trucks (20 ... Read More

Avoid used 1year old cars. New cars can be had for not much more, if not less, especially trucks. You should be able to get a leftover 07 30000 msrp dakota quad cab for 20000 or so. A used 06 wholesales for about 18500. The machine you describe is about 30000 msrp. A new 07 36000 msrp ram 1500 sells regularly for 24000. The kbb wholesale on a used 06 is ... Read More

Just bought my first pick up truck and also happens to be my first 4X4, 2007 Dodge Dakota automatic 4.7 engine. Mechanic said the best way to avoid transmission problems is to leave car in 4X4 at all times. Salesman said keep in 2X2 until needed in 4X4. Book seems to favor salesman. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Sunburn, The first one or two years of the 4.7 in a Dakota they used a 47 or 48mm throttlebody. In 2002 or 2003 that was increased to a 50mm. The camshafts are different for each year up to 2003. The 2003/2004 camshaft duration was changed to 243.5 degrees intake, 253.7 exhaust. I think that fuel delivery and timing algorithm changes permitted a decrease to valve overlap (17 degrees) for an ... Read More

Let me know if you want something different.
