2002 Dodge Dakota transmission problems?

I just bought a used 02 Dodge Dakota 4X4. It is hard shifting out of 1st and 2nd but doesn't do it all the time. Now it seems like it doesn't want to move quickly when starting out but drags. Please tell me what to look for. Should I take it to a transmission guy? I'm afraid they will rip me off. I'm a 44 yr old single mom. Have pity on me!!! Help!!! Read More...

Re: 2002 dakota torque conveter [zyta88]

I have a Dodge 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport Quad PU. The truck just started with the same problem described by yta88. Can you tell me if it gets worse or does it stay the same? Does anybody know if this damages the transmission running it in this condition? I want to go deer hunting in VA and it is a 3 hour drive on the highway. Don't want to get stuck on the side of the road. Any ... Read More...

Dodge Dakota Starting Problems

Re: Starting Problems when Cold [ronslakie1]

Ron, I had a 2002 Dodge Dakota 4.7L and I had exactly the same problem. This is not electrical problem!!! Do not touch it. I replaced fuel pump and everything went back to normal. I believe that there is not enough pressure build up for the first start in old pump. New fuel pump will solve that problem. It is located on top of fuel tank. This is a well known defect on these ... Read More...

AT THE DEALER'S EXPENSE, THE TORQUE CONVERTOR WAS REPLACED AND RECOMMENDED FIX IN THE TSB WAS PERFORMED. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, THIS DID NOT SOLVE ... Read More...

2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab SLT V-6 Auto Trans.

My Truck was driving fine yesterday with no problems at all. I took it to a friends house last night and it was fine. When I left his house last night my check engine light came on as soon as I started my truck. I noticed that my truck seemed sluggish. I drove it anyway. When I had to come to a stop and then start again it seemed "okay" from 1st to 2nd but the transmission slipped ... Read More...

Dodge Dakota Stalling and Dying Problems

Re: 2002 3.9l Dodge Dakota with automatic transmission that stalls in reverse. [dustyk]

It may have been more severe as it got closer to winter with the old IAC. However since I replaced it with a new one, everything is smooth as silk even though we are still experiencing cold temps. Truck runs like it's brand new regardless of the temp. My buddy who replaced his IAC ( with a new one ) on his 01' Dakota has the same positive results. It was his results that ... Read More...
