Dodge Dakota: Problems & Solutions

Re: Rough Idle 4.7L V8 Dakota 2002 (52K) [dustyk]

Although not directly related to Dakota... you are LUCKY that dodge chose to use Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensors to determine how much air is flowing into the engine. To recover, all you have to do is REMOVE that stupid filter and clean the intake manifold. On engines that use the Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensor, the oil from those "high performance" filters ... Question About 3.7 V6 Quad Cab 2002 pickup

My friend is thinking about purchasing a used 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab pickup that has a 3.7L V6 engine in it and he was wanting to know what the fuel economy is like for this truck (in the city / on the highway). He also wants to know if there are any negatives about this truck. Thanks for all help! Read More...

Re: 4.7 (287) engine stalling

Arranger, yes the 4.7 does idle low for a engine nowadays, especially for a smogger. As far as reports of stalling, I think this is like the reports of Chrysler automatic transmission failures. One stalling 4.7 has turned into thousands by continued repeating of those glad to spead the negative word. My 2003 has never stalled at nearly 24,000 miles. I've talked ... Read More...

Sunspots or moon phase?

Tilt, two weeks ago I came up on an accident where a Chevy Suburban nailed a dark gray Dakota Club Cab in the rear. I don't believe either one was totaled however, but a coincidence nontheless. I'm glad there were no serious injuries. I don't know why but my local Dodge dealer does not have the Dakota inventory he usually has this time of the year. I was by last week and ... Read More...

40,000 Mile Update

Our 2002, QUAD,4WD,AUTO,3.55, 4.7 just turned over 40k last month. So far no problems at all except a few rattles and the typical but expected poor mileage. We bought it in December of '01 so we have been putting alot of miles on it quickly. At 30k my buddy who is a Dodge mechanic did the recommended fluid changes listed in the manual. Also had him flush the radiator ... Read More...

Re: Wiper Washer Freeze Up.

I am also an owner of a 2002 Dodge Dakota. On Wednesday 01/07 my washers stopped functioning. I was able to get them working again by clearing the nozzles with a very thin paper clip. Same problem Thursday (2X), same solution. On Friday and today (Sat.) I have been unable to get them to function. The temperature here in NH has dropped to minus 12F both days. Seems the ... Tech Info

Yesterday I had a chance to have a discussion with a group of Dodge techs and picked up some info that might be useful. BRAKES As I reported here in another thread, in 2002 the brake components were changed on the Dakota/Durango, including different pads, calipers and rotors. I was told that this has brought the in-warranty replacement rate down to near zero. Prior ... Read More...

Re: Batteries

Just a reminder, on Dakotas, Durangos, and RAMs the "IOD fuse" (Ignition-off Draw) should be removed if storage up to thirty-days is anticipated. This fuse feeds the memory (keep-alive) and sleep mode functions for the various computer systems in the vehicle, including the radio and clock. The IOD current should not exceeed 35 milliamperes (0.035 amps). ... Read More...

Dodge price increase

Since yesterday was the last day for the then current rebate program I logged into the Dodge site to see what was coming in the form of new rebates. While on the board I looked at the Ram 1500 area as I upgraded my Dakota to a "Monster Quad" last June just to see what was up in that area. I noticed you could now price a 2004 Ram 1500. Being the curious type I decided to build ... Read More...

DODGE DAKOTA QUAD CAB

Brian................

The "new" 3.7 (226cid) derivitive of the polyhead 4.7 V8 has actually been out for two years, I am pretty sure. I know a fellow that has one in a 2002 RAM. From what I can tell, the 3.7 is a solid engine and I know of no genetic problems. Assuming that Dodge will use the same specs in the Dakota as they do the RAM, the ratings are as follows: 3.7 = 215hp + 235 lbs. ft. torque ... Read More...
