Summary

What Edmunds.com says

If one word could best describe the 2001 Dodge Dakota, comfortable would be it. Whether carrying five adults, cruising the interstate, transporting cargo or tackling off-road terrain, the Dakota is at ease no matter where it is or what it's asked to do.

Pros

Four full-size doors on Quad Cabs, tons of interior room, attractive styling, stout 4.7-liter V8.

Cons

Fuel consumption with the 5.9-liter V8, no R/T Quad Cab offered.

What's New for 2001

The 2001 Dodge Dakota gets a redesigned interior with upgraded audio components, optional steering wheel controls, larger exterior mirrors and a redesigned front fascia on the Sport models. Four-wheel-drive models get a dash-mounted, electronically controlled transfer case. New 15x7-inch cast aluminum wheels are standard on Sport and SLT models and a leather interior is now available in Quad Cab models. Quad Cabs also benefit from front seatbelt pre-tensioners, Club Cabs have added rear window defrost as an option, and Sentry Key Engine Immobilizer technology is now part of the optional security alarm system. Finally, the 3.9-liter V6 and 4.7-liter and 5.9-liter V8 engines meet low-emission vehicle standards for 2001.

Review

This truck is a great vehicle that I use as a daily driver and it has always gotten me from point A to B. This truck has a very nice speed for being the 3.9 V6 and has a lot of torque. The only downfall is that the fuel economy is ok for a vehicle. I get about 18mpg in town and I get almost 24 on the highway. I have over 180,000 miles on it and the only problem I have had with the truck is an oil leak at the oil pan, which I have heard is a common problem with Chrysler's vehicles.

Favorite Features

Powerful engine, nice stock speakers and rear subs, great handling, and can haul a ton of stuff.

Suggested Improvements

Fuel Economy and the oil pan leak and the position of some of the spark plugs are hard to change. Lastly, the check engine light code for misfiring when nothing is wrong.

Review

Bought it used a year ago and have so far replaced: fuel pump, 2 oxygen sensors, catalytic converter and the automatic door lock mechanism. total so far is around $3,000 in repairs.

Favorite Features

The cool 4WD tires, rollback bed cover and awesome bedliner I spent $1,000 on when I bought it because I thought I'd have this thing a while

Review

Great overall truck. although with 2 kids i wished i had bought a crew cab. this truck has never got me stuck. The 4.7 really hauls, handles great, and will get up and go when called upon. These trucks are some of the nicest on the road. It's definatly alot better of a ride than my 01 Dodge Ram.

Favorite Features

Sleek stylin, oodles of power, and the 5spd tranny never gets old.

Suggested Improvements

pass. side window switch doesn't work, and can't keep brakes on the front.
