I would check the distributor next. I was having the same problem in my 1992 dodge dakota and it led me to blown head gasket and i looked at the distributor. beneath the hall effect pickup there is a piece of metal that spins. if that comes loose or gets damaged it can act like your motor is out of time. Which causes it to loose power and stall out at ... Read More

In 1992, Chrysler introduced the Magnum version of the 318 motor and made significant changes that would likely affect your desire to swap parts. I believe the connecting rods and pistons would probably interchange okay, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm not an expert in Mopar parts swapping. The block uses a roller lifter camshaft and incorporates a different oiling method for the rockers. In addition, the push rod angled changed ... Read More

Hmmm, I'm not familiar with a component like that on a Dakota. There is a Automatic Shutdown Relay that will cut off current to the fuel injectors, ignition coil, and oxygen sensor heater when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) senses certain conditions. This relay also has a fuse. Can you determine if you are getting ignition spark and fuel? Regards, Dusty

In this model year there are a number of things that could cause this problem. I have seen aftermarket tune up parts, such as distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires cause similar problems. Bad or worn spark plugs can also be a cause. I would recommend using only Mopar ignition and tune-up parts. A bad PCV valve can also cause this, especially in the winter time when there's higher levels ... Read More
