I too have a 2007 Dodge Caravan and having the same problem with "kicking" of the transmission on acceleration. I am willing to try changing the Torque Converter clutch cylanoid and crossing my fingers that I do not need a new transmission. Will keep you updated.

$20k is pretty tough to get into a reasonable mileage Honda/Toyota IMHO. We sold our '05 Odyssey with 100k miles back in Feb for $16k. Stupid money in my book...but I'm not complaining. You can get into a decent fairly new Chrysler for that coin though. We have had Caravans in the family over the years and most were very reliable. However my parents now have a 2007 that has been ... Three repair shops including Dodge dealer where I bought my van told me I needed a transmission overhaul on my 2007 Grand Caravan with 52k miles. Cost $2500. Last resort paid off big. I don't think anyone will see your post here because the topic relates to the 2010 GC. The vehicle that we turned in was a 2007 base Caravan. Thank you for your response. My 2010 Dodge Caravan is equipped with the auto-off feature. So did the 2007 that preceded it. It also had the DRL's (dealer activated). When Cerberus took over Chrysler in late 2007, I knew it was bad news. This company just fips businesses in order to make a quick buck. We purchased a base 2006 Dodge Caravan in Sept. 2006 with the 4 cylinder engine. With 29,000+ miles, no problems to report. Acceleration is leisurely at best. However, with the size of your family I suggest you look at a 2006 or 2007 Grand Caravan. There are lots around for under $15,000 or $16,000 with low mileage. All come with either a 3.3 or 3.8 V6. Good luck.
That seems pretty low to me, though I am not at all familiar with Detroit driving conditions. With our 2007 DGC with the 3.8L engine, we've been averaging 20.8 mpg overall. Mostly suburban and highway driving.
I'm glad someone understands why I prefer a sedan with a trunk over a hatchback. People think I'm nuts for preferring this but I like the idea of storing things in a trunk which you cannot see from the outside. In a hatchback you could always see what was back there which tempted thieves. Besides, if your trunk is a mess nobody knows.,
Good objective post Marine2. I've often though you wear Chrysler underwear, but you did a good job on this one.
I think you really need to know how your going to use your minivan before choosing what to buy. Do you ever carry up to eight people? Honda would be a goood choice here. Will it just be used primarily as a people mover? Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, or most any of the others would fill the bill quite nicely. How long you want to keep it is another factor. Toyota and ... Dodge Caravan was still the #1 selling mini van for 2007. You can read the whole article here http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080104/BUSINESS01/801040386/10- 14 In December, though, Chrysler did make a big play to hold on to one of its important leadership positions. The automaker posted a 51.3% gain in Dodge Grand Caravan sales, enough to beat the Honda Odyssey for the No. 1 position in the minivan segment.
Really? And what does that say for Chrysler for offering 0%, a rebate and no payments for six months on its much ballyhooed BRAND NEW minivans? I've seen the posting on 0% etc.....but haven't actually seen it any where else. But rebates and incentives are typical of domestics, but not Honda. A couple of points: 1) It is true that the 41TE transmission in late model minivans need to learn and adapt to the driving style of the main driver, in fact, this has been true since that transmission was first brought out nearly twenty years ago. Hello; Just cking to see how your CAMVAP meeting went!
Although the Toyota is a good van, you're buying it right about the time that it will likely need its first major maintenance. At 117,000 km, it probably needs a new timing belt, tune up, and tires. If the vehicle has had the timing belt done and the tires are in good shape, then the Toyota is a good way to go. If you choose the Chrysler, see if it qualifies ... Read More
I would go with a Toyota if I were you (of course I do own a Sienna!). If I'm not mistaken, even a 2005 should have stow-n-go, so you're covered there. I've always heard that Toyotas last forever. I never got the chance to find out with my 1GR Sienna, as it was stolen about 1/2 way through my lease! I'm planning on keeping this one a good, long while.......
Thank you for your comments. New Chrysler costs about 5K more than the 1 year old model. Our budget was ~ 15k$, hence I was considering Sienna.
High miles shouldn't be much of concern on a Toyota and (if you can knock the price down a bit) it would be my choice here. I know prices in Canada are higher than the States, but if you're interested in a Chrysler, can't you buy a new one for about that much or a little more?

Nope, the one I drove felt just fine. Perhaps it's just a case of getting used to the positioning? I'm used to the lever being in that position thanks to our CR-V. Definitely not a positioning issue, it was the mechanical operation of it, it had to be bad.

To everyone with 2007 Caravans. I have an early 2007 model I purchased in December. I just turned 15,000 miles on it. The clunky/rough shift in and out of 1st gear is just as bad as the day I bought it.
