Wow, I'm stunned at the issues you've had with your van; to say that your experience is different than ours is an understatement. Our first DGC (a 1998 3.8 liter Sport model) went some 170,000 miles with very little maintenance, and our second, a 2003 3.8 liter ES model is currently north of 130,000 miles and has only needed two unscheduled repairs, the first being ... I too have a2006 Grand Caravan SXT. I have been having troubles one right after another with it! It all started with the tires on the van. I got a total of 12000 miles on the tires and they were beyond worn out! I bought a new Town & Country in 2005. I took it back to the dealership after the first few days, telling them there was something wrong with the brakes. I have a 2006 Dodge Caravan with the 2.4L engine. No major problems at 42k miles. I bought it new in September 2006 and switched to synthetic oil at 10k miles. The only minor problem is that the serpentine belt tends to glaze between 15k and 20k miles. At that point, the belt starts to squeak. This happened to me last summer and cost a couple-hundred to fix. Look down in the sides where it has something that looks kind of like a plastic bike chain... that is likely where the problem is coming from esp. if it is just one door. What happens is crumbs, dirt, dust, rocks etc get in there and inside that is wiring for your door, something gets pinched etc... and ... Read More...

It sounds like a mechanical problem as opposed to electrical. If it were an electrical problem, you would still be able to operate the locks manually from the inside of the door or with the key from the outside. On my last oil change I just found out that the dealer put the wrong grade of oil in the engine - 10W30 and not 5W30. I had to use a new dealer because the previous one had closed its doors for good. Is it OK to switch back to 5W30? I use fully synthetic oil. Not problems so far. The van is a 2006 Dodge Caravan with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. Any advice is very much appreciated. Read More...
