Dodge Caravan SE - 1996 Replaced the Front Pads and Rotors on our 1996 Dodge Caravan 3-weeks ago. When I test-drove the vehicle everything was fine. My wife used the van on short errand trip around town for a week and found the brakes to be working fine. The van was not used for a few days and when I went to drive it the wheels felt like they were locked. ... Read More

After 6 months, I found the problem with my 1996 dodge mini van. It was a cracked rotor in the distributor. on the bottom where the screw fits. looking at top of rotor it looked ok. How it had a smooth idle and would start quickly. I suppose as the crack got worse when it got to operating temp it would die and start back up. Thanks to all who posted ... Read More
"The 3.3L V6 has a propensity to develop head gasket leaks, especially on the front bank of cylinders." Really? I participate on a number of minivan related boards (and am even a moderator on one), and for the Gen 3 and later vans (i.e. 1996 and later), I've never even once heard of folks having head gasket issues (errr, unless someone seriously overheated the engine). FWIW, my former 1998 had a ... Read More
Agreed. Also, the 2000 van shares the same body style with the model years 1996 through 1999, so it is entirely reasonable that the doors are interchangeable.
Finally I find kindred spirits! My 1997 Dodge Caravan goes thru this sequence: abs and check engine lights come on, gas gauge, odometer, speedometer,'etc do not work. After a few days the ABS light goes off, the check engine light stays on and the gauges pop back on. Normally after I drove the car for a while the engine light would go off and everything would be normal. Then the cycle ... Read More
Don't leave out the O2 sensor in that mix. I believe most engines run "open loop" (in that the output of the O2 sensors are ignored) for a couple of minutes upon start up, until the O2 sensor has a chance to warm up. The ECM uses one of the existing temperature sensors to figure out when this is.
I agree. If it consistently manifests after reaching operating temperature, it points to sensors that come online at that point rather than an always-on sensor or a mechanical source.
While I do agree that these could also be a possible source of his problem, I started with the Air temp sensor and map/MAF sensors, because he stated that the problem seems to be temperature related and usually occurs when the vehicle comes up to normal operating temperature. In my experiences with cars, that would usually point to the items I mentioned. I have had vehicles with problems with IAC and ... Read More
Many years ago we had a 91 Caravan that had a stalling problem. As I recall, the fuel injectors needed a cleaning; after the fuel injection service it ran fine. Good luck.
This could be a number of problems so getting codes read is the first step for sure. The tps (throttle position sensor) or air idle motor are 2 common causes as they are moving parts and wear out or get sticky. Does it idle smooth or rough? If it nice and smooth then that should rule out a vacuum leak.
Have you checked the computer for any stored diagnostic codes? It sounds like it could be either the air temperature sensor or map sensor. They are an easy place to start. If you do not have a code reader or know how to get them with the key method, you can go to any autozone store and they will check for codes for you. If the check engine light is not ... Read More

I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan with a non-functioning windshield washer pump. I picked up a kit at the parts store that is nothing but a pump motor, it looks like it must mount right on the bottom of the washer fluid bottle. Oh, for sure! I helped a friend replace the auto transmission on his '67 El Camino from underneath. Just the two of us and a floor jack. What a mess, but we got it done. :P
Yes got the transmission for $325.00. Rented a transmission jack $25.00 but was worth it as the floor jack that i have kind of difficult to install a transmission.
:( The cutting out makes me think maybe there is a mass airflow sensor problem. According to other forums, code 37 is for "Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit or park/neutral switch failure." I doubt that is causing the engine to stall, though stranger things have happened, I suppose! Well done replacing the sensor! Quite a chore, so I hope the price was right on that transmission! ;)
yes I just now finished taking gears from the transmission that didn't have the sensor and put in my transmission, but what a job got it installed works ok but now engine cuts off when it wants to but been doing that for sometime once it does stop running starts back up quickly. gives me code 37 error?
Can you not swap the sensor into the other transmission? If not, the control units will likely have issues with this replacement.

the p0352 code indicate a coil circuit failure. I found that for my van one of the leads going to the coil pack that is controlled by the pcm was constantly to ground if the battery was connected.
