    I just had my 2007 Caliber SXT with a 5 speed repaired for a similar problem. It turned out to be the bearing that holds the right axle in place, but they had to replace the entire assembly as it is a sealed unit. Hope this helps.

    The factory warranty on the 2007, which was the first year for caliber, was only 35,000 miles. I bought it second hand from a lease company. The transmission they used is a Jatco JF011E which was also used in 4 Nissan models, hence my interest in the Nissan extended warranty. Jatco is owned by Nissan and supplies both Nissan and Dodge with the CVT transmission. There are other makes Jatco supplies these to as well. They now have plants in Japan, Mexico, and the US.     If you follow the owners manual the CVT(AUTO) trans is not due for its first full service somewhere between 90,000-100,000 miles.The servicing is expensive due to the special trans fluid and generally costs $250-$300. The CVT is not rebuilt by ANY Chrysler dealership,they are replaced as a unit and the trans is sent back to JATCO(mfr) for analysis and rebuild. Chrysler dealers only replace them. Get another dealer/opinion!

    How many kilometers/miles on the car? Are they the original brakes? What kind of enviroment(snow/salt)? What is rear brake drum or disc? (front are discbrakes on all Calibers) Any excess noise is not good/right it's worth having them looked at by someone who knows what they are doing.
