Is AWD needed in southern states?
by junf on Mon Apr 13 10:47:43 PDT 2009
In the market looking for a used 2006+ suv inlcuding volvo xc90, fx35, etc. Is AWD much better than the fwd model? we are in NC so seldomly got bad cold weather. is there any noticeable benefits to have an AWD model, except it is "trending"? Thanks.
Re: AXZ Plan and $5K? [rosedale]
by bmhaven on Tue Mar 31 18:30:23 PDT 2009
Hi Rosedale, I went to the Volvo dealership in Cary, NC to inquire about the Volvo XC60 and Ford X Plan pricing. You can indeed take advantage of the $5K incentive by using an outside lender on top of X Plan pricing. Rumor in Detroit right now is that GM is going to role out some hefty incentives for April so it will be interesting to see if Ford follows suit. On the XC60 you almost have to get AZ plan pricing in order to make the overpriced XC60 affordable. I am going to revisit in a couple months once dealer inventories ramp up to see if I can squeeze an additional $1K off the price.
Use NADA site for estimates and lean to the low side !

I just traded my 2000 jetta for a 2009 Prius. After lots of shopping I visited a friend who sells used cars and he told me that NADA is used by most dealers around here and KBB / Edmunds are too high...I know, my Jetta took a $1300 hit...the site is at the following link. http://www.nadaguides.com/ Unless you have a like new late model consider your car at the low end of values, subtract from the wholesale value of the car you're considering, check on incentives (hold back is almost always off the table), decide what "profit" you'll pay which must consider the current demand for your new purchase and the current market conditions. Remember the dealer must make a profit to stay in business. Three percent over invoice is my goal. Good luck.
Re: used 07 s40 price? [vernor]

Check out Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds used info on pricing..I've never been very successful negotiating "good" deals with used purchases. They usually have more room than on new cars but are much less willing to reduce their markup...there is some room for them to recondition etc but when you compare their profit margin with new sales ???? Good luck and don't forget to compare your actual cost with a 2008 similar model with a full warantee. :) Charlie
Re: S40 2006-resale value [franbo]

I own a 2006 S40 T5 AWD and I am very satisfied after 43,000 miles. Highway milage is 30+ and town around 20. No problems with rattles etc or repairs. Did have a problem with the passenger side power windows and door loocks not operating but it seems to have been fixed under warrantee. All the models you are considering will cost more than average for service and repairs IMO.
Help with lease on XC90
by g_p on Sat Dec 08 16:16:29 PST 2007
We have decided on an 08 XC90 and plan to lease for 24 mo/12K year. I would appreciate anyone who has some feedback on the following offer. I have always purchased and need some experienced voices with my first lease. We have an offer from Volvo of Charlotte (in NC) on a 3.2L, 5 seater, Metallic paint, premium pkg, climate pkg, navi and the "free" rear seat ent system. The MSRP on the vehicle is 43,220. Offer (using Costco's services) Invoice = 40,205 Minus incentive of 2500 Minus Cosco saving of 1000 PRICE = 36,705 plus TTL Quoted a residual of 62% (dealer quoted residual value of 27,827) Quoted a money factor of .0009 I haven't finalized the lease agreement, but the salesman is quoting me a monthly payment of 541 with tax (property and sales) included. That is with a 1000 down (including first month). My questions: 1) I feel good about the purchase price but want to know if I am leaving any money on the table. 2) How was the residual calculated? I cannot figure how 62% is 27,827 of MSRP or negotiated price. 3) Does the lease payment seem high with the info given? 4) What should I look at closely on the lease agreement when it get presented in a couple days? 5) Is it common for property tax to be included in a lease? I am accustomed to paying County/City prop tax on my vehicles, but didn't know it would be included in the lease. 6) NC sales tax (or "highway use tax" is 3%). In a lease, do I only pay the tax on the depreciation amount or the whole sales price? I appreciate ANY help/comments I can get. I won't let 5-10 bucks a month keep me from getting my wife her car, but want to do the best I can. Thanks in advance for any feedback and sorry for the long post.
