Re: I don't get it on lease options for V70 [westend2]

Probably one of the all time stupidest moves in the history of cars, but that's another whole email. Anyway back to trying to get some one to show you a 2008 V70 is practically useless. I don't get it. They only want to show you the gas guzzeling 4wheel drive 6 cylinder xc70 Hear! Hear! I just went through all this and when the dust settled, ended up with a Saab 9-5 Sportcombi. The V70 was actually going to cost me more than the XC70 - but I didn't want an XC70. I don't get it.
Nice Car

Wife would've bought the S40, but the rear head rests were to high and compromised the rear view out the rear window, so she got the exact same car with the Mazda 3...same body just with a larger engine, different front and rear facia and more safety features for mucho $. I did recently price one out here in South Florida for me actually and I could get an auto base unit for close to $23k. Still mulling this over but with the ever rising gas prices and the fact that my beloved Civic gets excellent mileage plus that my oldest is in the market for a car, I've put this idea on hold for the forseeable future. One day perhaps! The Sandman :)

Hi Bill165, I just wanted you to know, you are not crazy. I too live on Long Island and have had exactly the same experience. Not only at Riverhead, but every other Volvo dealership as well. I currently lease a 2006 v70. I actually have a manual 5 speed ! The car has been excellent . I get great gas milage (because of the manual transmission and 5 cylinders) and your brakes last and last. The bad news is my lease is soon up, the 2008 V70's are no longer available in a manual and Volvo has increased the size of the engine to 6 cylinders. Probably one of the all time stupidest moves in the history of cars, but that's another whole email. Anyway back to trying to get some one to show you a 2008 V70 is practically useless. I don't get it. They only want to show you the gas guzzeling 4wheel drive 6 cylinder xc70 with two stupid metal gullies going down the back of the ramp. What the heck are those anyway ? And they don,t want to hear anything. They don't care if you are a repeat customer, they don't want to deal, I guess they are doing so well, that they must not need our business. Yesterday, I went to Volvoville, and looked at a certified car that has been on their lot for 2 monthes. ( I know because I looked at it then ).They offered me the same deal they offered me the first time, $400. off the sticker price and would not budge. I said I'll buy this car if you give me a better deal. They said no. I said you'd rather have the car sitting there than sell it ? The sales person answered, " it's not costing us anything ". ......... That just cost them a customer.
Re: volvo XC90 Don't buy one [boardmas]

We are planning to buy a XC90. But now I have second thoughts. We had our S60 for 2 years now, and starting to hear some noises coming from the front of the car, took it to the dealer, but was not able to duplicate the noise at the dealer. The dealer was nice enough to inspected the car anyway, and did not find any problems. But I still hear the noise every now and then... The car only has 35000 miles on it. I wonder what's going to happen a few years down the road... I like the S60, it has decent mileage. 24 ~27mpg. But quality is a major concern for us when it comes to the decision of buying another volvo, in addition to gas price and rapid depreciation of the resale value.
Re: Purchasing Certified Pre-Owned - Is this a good deal? [sigamy]

My lease ends this year and I'm considering buying a 2004 2.5T. Hopefully it gets better gas mileage than my 6cyl (17mpg). I started looking on the internet and have seen some with mileage < 45k for ~ $17-18k. I don't recall any having an extended warranty but if they're clean i'd prefer to buy a 2004 over a 2005 for $10k less money. It's also depreciated more so if i sell it in another 1-2 yrs I haven't lost as much. My buyout for my '07 lease is $32k, so your price of $27k for an '05 doesn't really sound like a great deal.
2008 XC 70 Purchase Experience, Jan 08 Seattle
by bigbuddha on Sat Jan 26 19:33:09 PST 2008
My wife and I live in Seattle area. We just bought a brand new 08 XC70 with Premium, Convenience, Climate, PCC, hands-free bluetooth and booster seats. Here are some observations from the purchase experience and the car itself: 1. In Seattle area, no one can beat Sandberg Volvo's price. We paid $37,600 for our package pretax (white exterior and beige interior). 2. We tried to find all kinds of discounts: family member who has a Volvo, Costco membership, etc. But we didn't need them in Sandberg. Their price was $1000 lower at least and we were told that they did so by keeping advertising low. 3. Sandberg sold us $3700 worth of additional options (7 year coverage, 3 yr road hazard, chip protection), which was $500 less than the original price. 4. My first choice of dealer, Barrier in Bellevue, offers many niceties (e.g. free webcam enabled carwash facilities) but they couldn't match the price we were offered in Sandberg. Another dealer, University Volvo, promoted a leasing package that is only $33K. But by my rough calculation, the actual cost amounts to a $4K interest payment off a $16K loan over 3 years. 5. No I am not affiliated in any way with Sandberg. But I do buy their "no ads budget" explanation and thought I should help them out here. We love our XC70, obviously (worth $45,551 to be exact). However, after 1st day of driving, here are something other buyers may want to know: 1. The 235hp engine is high on torque but low on kick. Acceleration comes with pretty noticeable noise that is at least two notches louder on the car radio scale (i.e. you have to tune the radio louder by at least that much to hear the same volume) 2. NOTE THIS: in a stop-and-go situation (e.g. congested highway), you may feel not-infrequent jerking. It is as if the auto transmission doesn't know which gear to engage. This is particularly so if you just let go the brake or tap on the gas slightly. Hope this helps other buyers. Enjoy!
