GLX in Washington DC: by petepie1 on Tue Jun 03 07:35:24 PDT 2003; I bought my wagon from Stohlman in Tyson's corner and second the recommendation. I shopped all the area dealers looking for a specific color combination and found Stohlman beat everyone else's price (College Park, Martens). It was an easy purchase, no pressure to buy extras, no hassles in the finance office. Congressional, Springfield, Karen Radley, and others didn't have the color/option combination I wanted so I didn't price them. I bought the wagon for $27,400 (after $500 rebate, before taxes, tags--total out the door was $28,000 after $500 rebate). Mine has 5 speed manual transmission, plus ESP. I think you can get better deals on the GLX sedans, especially if you want an automatic. Stohlman has a bunch of GLX's on the lot, so does Springfield VW. The guy at Marten's called back after I bought my car and said that they were offering their Passats for $3000 below MSRP, which brings it closer to invoice. Good luck finding the car you want, it seems like there are some good deals to be had out there if you buy off the lot. If you do go to Baltimore, I found that Russel had the lowest prices when I bought a Jetta in 2000.

Some better than others. I haven't purchased yet because I'm still deciding between Passat and another vehicle. MAG is a very nice car buying experience - low pressure and very competent sales people. I would highly recommend that you speak to Chad Simpkins. If you saw JaneyLee's previous post she got an excellent deal on a GLX at MAG. My impression has always been that MAG has to gouge to make up for all that overhead but obviously Janey's deal isn't consistent with that belief. No problems with Byers at all but it's the furthest from me so I haven't had much interaction with them. The guy at Hatfield refused to give me a quote over the phone because they wanted me on the lot "to prove I was serious" whatever that means. Later in the call he decided that it was okay to give me a quote... but he quoted the MSRP less my down payment. Nice. An alternative I'd recommend: Bill Marine VW in Springfield. I was looking for a particular color/feature configuration and I stumbled across them when I was browsing inventories on vw.com. The sales manager there has been excellent about doing business via email and over the phone. No nonesense. If we make a deal they'll deliver the car to me. You might want to give them a shot.
