For some reason (Car and Driver?) people think the 3.6 Passat is 36 to 39K. The sticker price on mine was 33,315 loaded with premium luxury package and the works! The dealer here in Cary NC came off 2K on sticker and gave me FULL Kelly Blue Book for my trade-in 2002 Passat GLX. I was only looking at the 325 BMW or the C230 Benz--my lease payment was $100 less a month--with real leather interior, heated front seat, and airbags in the back seat. All etras in the other two cars. The TL is nice, but typical, slick Japanese without the German handling. I am thrilled with the new Passat!
Re: 2006 Jetta 2.0T in NC - buying experience & first impressions [spiveygb]

Hey Spiveygb, I live in the Raleigh/Durham area and was wondering if you could tell me how many 2.0T Jettas they had on the lot in Durham and with what packages. I was in there about a month ago and they offered me $800 over invoice, granted that this was their first offer and I was not in a hurry to buy. Invoice price is a great deal and might go back if I can get it. Did you go to Leith VW in Cary and check out their inventory? Their online inventory is down. Thanks a lot. Martyt

I bought my 05 TDI Jetta Wagon with ESP in November 04 from the VW dealer in Cary, NC. I tried to deal with the dealer in Durham, Nc, where I live, but got nowhere (he actually hung up on me). I paid $19,700 plus tax, title, tags, & a $35o dealer fee. Thought it was all reasonable. This my second TDI. My son totalled my first one after I only had it 45 days. He ain't driving this one.

I'm not trying to be greedy - just informed. That's why I posted the question here before going and making a $3k below invoice offer to my local dealer. Thanks for the info.

Yes, I realize it's below invoice. Seems I read somewhere before (I cannot find it now) that VW dealers received $$ for remaining 2001 Passats in inventory. I am thinking the amount was $3000 - this was after the last rebates expired. If this is true, then there could be some more flexibility.
