I'm in Omaha, NE. My car got delivered today and I just picked it up. I forgot to mention in my first post that I got the automatic transmission. The dealer had to ship one in from out of town because they didnt have any jetta's with tan leather on the lot. I wasnt thrilled about waiting a week to get my car, but the car looks real sharp and i'm glad i didnt settle for the grey or black interior.

Just put a deposit down on a 2007 4dr, DSG, pkg 2, mats, united gray, 17" wheels - $27000. Tax, document, etc. all extra. Financing thru VW, but the price was settled before we talked financing. Car is being transported from port, so I haven't seen the actual window MSRP, but all my info put it at ~ $27,800. I went into dealership looking to pay 27 even (after researching TMV and Kelly Blue book prices) and that's what I got, so I'm satisfied. I don't think I could have done much better - there weren't a lot of grey 4 dr DSG's in my area (NE Ohio - Midwest), so I didn't think I could do a better deal unless I went with another color or some other change. Now I just want to get my hands on the actual car!

Interesting Information

OK, we ordered a 2006 Jetta tdi from one of the four local VW dealers and I'd like to report on the experience. Three of the dealers basically wouldn't budge: The price was MSRP minus a coupla hundred dollars. One dealer, a VW-Mazda store in NE Ohio ordered our car for delivery in August (when we wanted it!) for ~$275 over invoice plus tax and title. This is for a cash deal, no trade-in. BTW, our car is a Spice Red with Package Two. The XM option isn't available anymore; we're getting the Sirius radio. (Too bad because XM carries MLB and the Cleveland Indians is my team!) Too, Spice Red was discontinued as an option 3 days after we ordered. I'd say things are beginning to dry up. The 2008 tdi's apparently will have a highly modified emissions system that won't be ready in time. There will be no 2007 tdi's! Jay

A dealer can make or break the situation. Two experiences, one in Dallas (they were good) and one in Chicago (not good). In Chicago I bought a brand new 2002 VW Jetta, my dream car, fully loaded etc. that had done .5 miles. The salesman gave me really serious pressure. In retrospect, I should not have bought the car at all. I was driving a perfectly good VW 1996 Jetta. The result is I still have the car but don't drive it and am thinking about selling it. I took it into the DEALER (in Chicago) last week. They are the typical "hard nosed" type. The salesman thought I was just another uninformed customer. Low balled the offer to me, I walked out. No way am I going to give my car to a dealer to make money on it. They undervalued the car giving it a poor rating. I honestly think Dealers are giving us consumers a hard time. No matter what they say about their expenses and coverage costs. So I think it is time to speak out and call it like it is. A fair deal is just that, and a Dealership that tries to take advantage of a buyer needs to be challenged. I never thought of selling my car myself. Always had the idea that the Dealer knows best. Well, do they? I don't think so. I found so much helpful information on Edmunds. I wish I had found them in 2002 before I went to the Dealer.
The price in NE Ohio

We're ordering a manual TDI with Package #1 in Spice Red with the beige leatherette interior. It'll be delivered in July which is just what we want. Since the spread between invoice and MSRP seems to be only about $1300 there isn't a lot of room to negotiate. The four dealers within 25 miles of my home are all more or less hitting the Edmunds price. At ~$23.7K I'm happy aniticipating 45 mpg especially since diesel is only $.04 more per gallon in this area. (2.89 vs. 2.85) I note the full size spare and 60K drivetrain warranty. Is the VW extended warranty worth it? We usually keep our cars to 80-90K miles. Jay
