Buy now or later?

I am considering a 2008 Passat Komfort with Ipod adaptor. From what I am reading on the posts, some are getting payments of about $311 - $329 per mo with 12,000 miles, 36 months. 50% resale after. And this is after you negotiated your best deal. The lease posted on VW website for a base Passat is $329.mo and my local dealer told me it's higher at $369 for the Komfort. But I guess some of you are getting $2,000 VW Loyalty incentive or $1,500 Conquest incentive for trading in a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai etc. bringing your lease payment down to approximantely $320/mo. including tax, tag and title. My questions are as follows: Have any of you gotten a $320/mo price on a Komfort without getting one of these incentives? Is the Sign and Drive event an incredibly low price that can't be passed up? (e.g. what would be the "normal" lease deal I could get on a Komfort Passat?) VW is now shipping their cars with the new 2.0T CCTA engine with 211 hp and more torque. This is a completely new engine and replaces the existing 200 hp BPY engine. Advantage is more torque, maybe slightly better gas mileage, timing chain instead of timing belt. and better acceleration. VW is putting this engine in all of their 4 cyl. application including the new 2009 Audi A4 2.0T. So now that the new engines are arriving, perhaps the main reason that VW has had this Sign and Drive Event was to clear out their inventory with the older BPY engine. I am concerned about this but now way to know. Interesting thing is that you can pick up a Passat with one of the new engines and still use the existing Sign and Drive incentives. It's a thought. I wonder if there will be reliability issues with the new engine while they get the bugs out in the first year or will it just be all that from the beginning?? Basically, I am wondering if I should take the leap to buy the Passat now or wait until 2009 models come out so that I can get Bluetooth and touch button NAV along with the new CCTA engine. That's why the price is important. Basically, do you guys think that VW will go back to a higher lease payment once they have cleared out their inventories? Or can I expect that VW will still have decent lease deals in a few months or in the fall when the 2009's come out?
Re: Passat Lux rate I got [bluebird23]

What do you think will be the lease deal on 2008 Passat Lux after end of April? I love the car and am decided that its what I want, but it is more convenient for me to lease or buy in June or July. I am concerned it may cost too much if I wait because of the drop in value of the U.S. dollar thinking VW may be forced to raise prices, money factors, etc.? However I also believe that if VW raises their prices too much, their sales would be hurt going up against Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Acura, Hyundai but they can't sell at a loss either. Maybe it will spell a comeback for U.S. manufacturers if the imports are all forced into higher prices. My car is paid off with only 59,000 miles on odometer but gets only about 13 city/17 highway. I drive about 1,000 miles per month. So I am enjoying my time with no car payment but with gas prices going up, I would be saving half my new lease payment just in gas. My extended warranty ends this summer. Tough decision.
Re: Out-of-door price for 2008 Touareg2 with lux and tech packages [thammeo
by Car_man on Tue Mar 18 02:26:09 PDT 2008
Hello thammeow. If I was personally in the market for a 2008 Touareg in an area that has a decent level of competition, I would shoot for a selling price of around $500 over dealer invoice. The market for new vehicles is pretty slow right now, plus gas prices are high and the Touareg sucks it down. If you shop around, you may be able to find a dealer that will sell you one for this low a price. If you lease, a selling price of $500 over invoice would actually be equivalent to $500 under invoice once the $1,000 cash incentive that Volkswagen is providing on leases of this truck through VW Credit is taken into account. Re: This is MY lease for VW 2008 passat Komfort [reducedpayment]

A lot of dealers try to add in additional fees, after you've negotiated a price.. It's just a tactic to get you to pay more for the car.. The destination fee is part of the price of the car.. It's on the sticker, and on their invoice... Trying to add it after the price has been negotiated is no different than trying to add an extra $1000 for the sunroof (that's on the sticker and invoice, too, right?). The only legitimate fees are: acquisition fees on leases... these go to the bank.. they can be rolled into the lease payment, though.. Government fees: Title, license, tire tax, etc.. Most dealers also add some sort of document fee.. ostensibly for doing the paperwork (like they could sell cars without doing the paperwork?). These are mostly BS, also, but I don't squawk much if it's under $100, and nothing else weird is showing up. CA restricts doc fees to $55, Ohio $250, NY $45 (I think)... GA and FL are famous for the $399-$699 doc fee.. Not sure how that got started.. Manual tranny would be great... The only way for me to get one anymore, is to buy a car my wife wouldn't drive, anyway... :(
Lease Evaluation: 2008 GTI with Autobahn & Monster Mats
by adjulian on Tue Feb 05 11:59:31 PST 2008
Here is my current deal, haven't signed anything yet, but wanted to get an objective viewpoint: 2008 GTI - Candy White 4 Dr Manual with Autobahn + Monster Mats MSRP - 27155 Dealer Invoice - 25644 (invoice 25237+ $407 advertising, gas, etc.) Acquisition Fee - 575 Cap Cost Reduction - $500 lease incentive Adjusted Cap Cost - 25719 Residual - 14664 (54%) MF - .00103 (2.47%) 36 months Base monthly payment - 348.69 Monthly with 6% tax - 369.61 If I pay the Acquisition fee up front (pay 575 up front vs. 612 over the course of the lease), the base monthly payment becomes 332.12 (352.05 with 6% tax). Question 1: what do you think of the numbers? Question 2: Should I pay the acquisition fee up front or roll it into the lease payments? Thanks.
Considering a Diesel Rabbit...I mean Golf...
by lizziewriter on Thu Jan 31 09:28:11 PST 2008
We had a diesel Rabbit back when... Anyway, I am thinking of "trading in" my 2006 Chevy Uplander minivan for a diesel Golf, maybe a 2003? As soon as I can scrounge up a used Chevy Astro van (mine died and I couldn't get another right away) I would like to ditch the new minivan and get a diesel VW. It's been a long time since I've driven a VW, and hubby is leery of anything not GM. But as long as I have the Astro for hauling kids and stuff I figure I can get something that gets good gas mileage, has some power to it, and all of that. Advice and suggestions welcome. I am in New York State. (If Chevy would just make a diesel Astro on the S10 platform I'd have been all set... but they don't.)
