2008 Passat "Lux"
by opositively on Fri Apr 11 17:35:03 PDT 2008
Hello all. I just wanted to share my experience with you all by using Edmunds website in researching for my 08 Passat. Today I just purchased a brand new (mocha brown exterior, latte machiato interior) 2008 Passat "Lux" with the additional options of the DVD Navigation (NV), rear side airbags (4X4) and Dynaduio (9VE) for $455 above dealer's invoice. After getting the additional $1500 rebate and trading in my 2001 Toyota 4x4 and got 10K for it, the final cost was $20554. Purchased in Daytona Beach, FL... MSRP: $33940 Dealer's Invoice: $31579 Edmund's True Market Value (TMV): $32088 Actual Purchase price w/Rebate included: $30554 Total Savings below MSRP:$3386. Yesterday, however, another VW dealer would've had me pay 680 over invoice, another 500 for transport fees to his lot, and 1K on rebate, and 10,500 on my truck. He was absolute in his price for the EXACT same vehicle color, options, etc... I confronted him about the rebate, letting him know that VW offered 1500 for rebates, and of course he played it off by saying he wasn't aware of it (sure he wasn't). I of course did not reveal to him that I already knew what MSRP was, what the Dealer invoice was, and more importantly what the TMV was. Bottom line, I would've paid almost $1500 more than I did had I not done my research using Edmunds.com. The point in all this is that, if it wasn't for edmund's I wouldn't have known whether or not I was making a good deal for ME or for the Dealer. Today, it was a win-win situation for both the dealer I worked with in Daytona Beach (vs. Jacksonville) and me getting a fair deal all the way around. So I just wanted to say THANKS to Edmunds, and to everyone else who shares their good and bad experiences on here, for making me a much more informed consumer....God Bless the USA!!!
Re: This is MY lease for VW 2008 passat Komfort [reducedpayment]

A lot of dealers try to add in additional fees, after you've negotiated a price.. It's just a tactic to get you to pay more for the car.. The destination fee is part of the price of the car.. It's on the sticker, and on their invoice... Trying to add it after the price has been negotiated is no different than trying to add an extra $1000 for the sunroof (that's on the sticker and invoice, too, right?). The only legitimate fees are: acquisition fees on leases... these go to the bank.. they can be rolled into the lease payment, though.. Government fees: Title, license, tire tax, etc.. Most dealers also add some sort of document fee.. ostensibly for doing the paperwork (like they could sell cars without doing the paperwork?). These are mostly BS, also, but I don't squawk much if it's under $100, and nothing else weird is showing up. CA restricts doc fees to $55, Ohio $250, NY $45 (I think)... GA and FL are famous for the $399-$699 doc fee.. Not sure how that got started.. Manual tranny would be great... The only way for me to get one anymore, is to buy a car my wife wouldn't drive, anyway... :(
08 Jetta S Automatic finally
by bachatu on Mon Dec 31 16:01:33 PST 2007
Signed deal for 08 Jetta S Automatic 39month 12k miles per yr @ 209+ tax per month. The price didnt include mats which is ok cause I Got VW Jetta rubber mats from the dealer at cost for $70 (they wanted to charge 189 for the carpet Mat package). At signing, inceptions due were $720, this included 1st mo payment, tag & registration, dealer fee, misc fees, local sales tax... I put an additional 2k down towards cap cost which brought my payment to 156 plus tax which = 165 dollar payment. Also, VW credit matched my first payment (included in inception fees) so they paid an additional 165 up front. In all, it was a deal I couldn't refuse. I'm in Broward County FL by the way.
lease, & laughter in the dealership as I drove away.....

I'm nearing the end of my 2003 Passat GL lease(2 payments left) and I'm wondering if I should buy the thing right now - 10 day buyout is $10250 . Yes, you can all stop laughing--as a leasing newbie I naively went with a five year lease (I said stop laughing!) and paid $350 a month for the privilege. I'm sure I've been fleeced and knowing that I've already paid around $20k, plonking down another 10k is a rather painful prospect, but I'm trying to separate the two scenarios. I love the car, and it's below the allowed mileage(at 43k) and from what I can gather the price seems to be in the ballpark. It needs new tires, so if I turn it in I'll be charged for that, I'm sure. So at that point I'll have to fork out $350 turn-in fee and money for the tires and whatever else they deem above normal wear and tear, and at that point I still have to find another car that I like as much as this one. Since I'd like to get out of leasing, does it seem like a good idea to go with the buyout? A couple of questions I have are: How is the FL sales tax assesed? If I go with my credit union for financing, would each payment have a tax added or would I have to deal with DMV and pay a lump sum? Also, would an extended warranty be a must, since the car is already five years old? Thanks in advance (holds his breath for the requisite jabs at long-term maintenance costs of VW cars) Steve R.
