Hi all. I am looking to get a Jetta SE for my son in the next several months. Just wonder what kind of deals folks are getting for Jetta SE in Baltimore/Washington area? Should I wait until the cash for clunker craze is over? Thanks.

Car_man: I'm in Northern VA, and looking for a 24/36 15k lease on a 2-door GTI. Do you know if these rates (the .00117 or the .00175) apply to 2-door GTIs where I'm at? Also, does VW vary their rates based on option packages and/or tranny configuration? Thanks!
A possible offer from the dealership

I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this scenario. I received a letter from my dealership (Greenbrier VW) that I'm eligible for some special low interest refinancing on my '06 GLI. Thing is, I'm leasing the vehicle right now and I'm not sure what to do. I called the dealership and they're waiting for me to come down sometime this month so we can set this up. I work in Washington DC and I'd have to drive the vehicle down to the dealership 3 hours away for them to evaluate the vehicle. We just got approved for the mortgage on our new home. Will they pull my credit for this refinancing deal? Is it worth the drive down? What am I looking at? I asked Car_Man about terminating a lease early and how that's usually a bad deal; is there any way I can get burnt if the dealership is the one trying to get me to terminate the lease early and move into financing?

I just negotiated the following lease for a 3.6L with Luxury#2 package and navigation. MSRP $37,915: 12,000 miles per year 39 month lease No money down $570 per month including all fees and taxes(DC is 10% per month). I shopped at three dealerships with the same lease terms and the deals ranged from $570 to $650.

I purchased my 2005 (A4) Jetta TDI from Ourisman VW in Laurel, MD. about 15 minutes north of the Beltway on Rt. 295 (BWI-Washington Parkway). I worked with the internet sales manager, who was very honest and upfront with what was available and what she could get and what she could do for me. No beating around the bush, haggling, or "I have to talk to my manager" conversations. We started the e-mail conversation on a Thursday. Drove to the dealership on Saturday to meet her and discuss the details of what I wanted in the vehicle. (color, options, etc.) She called on Monday to confirm she had the exact match for what I wanted. (She had to go three states away to find the Jetta the way I wanted.) Car was brought into dealership on Tuesday, prepped and detailed on Wed., Thursday after work I finished paperwork and drove my Jetta home. Extremely happy with purchase, and especially "No Pressure" sales attitude. Sticker on my Jetta was 24K, I drove away for 19K. I've only made one long trip so far, and I averaged 53 MPG. Typically, in the city I average 43-45 MPG. The power in the engine is great, and the handling is superb. This is the first diesel I've ever owned and I doubt I will go back to a gas fueled vehicle. :)

Nothing against any TDI model, but this hysteria will quickly pass, and a reasonable price can be found. Gas in my Washington DC suburb went down 10 CENTS per gallon in ONE DAY today. Sub $2.00 gas may be history, but it is no reason to allow yourself to be abused over a marginal Mexican built car with an above average powerplant. Top dollar for a German built Passat with the TDI seems more reasonable, until you drive the new BMW 325, which I picked up for only 31K. The 30 mpg hwy of the 325 is a small price to pay for the infinitely better performance and better dealer treatment/loaner car/4 year 50K warranty including ALL parts other than tires and glass(brake pads, rotors, wiper blades, oil changes, etc)
