Re: BOUGHT 2008 GTI [razorasdf]
by goose on Sat May 10 20:04:46 PDT 2008
Well, I have sad news. My brand new GTI with approximately 200 miles was vandalized. I was at our local YMCA and was away from my GTI for no more than 35 minutes. My drivers side window and door got rocks thrown at them. The window shattered but was held in place by the tint and the door has three dings  I want to yell! It happened last Saturday. I had a vacation trip the following Monday. My car was in the garage for the four days I was on my trip. Once back I still couldn't drive my GTI. The shattered window made it impossible to see out that side. On Friday Safelite auto glass was going to repair the window but they failed. First they brought the wrong glass. Then when they located the correct glass the technician removed the interior door panel. He looked at how the window was installed and determined that the outside door panel had to be removed in order to replace the glass. What, you looked inside to determine how to replace the glass? Don't you have a manual on how to work on my car? I didn't ask them that but they wanted me to return the following day to do the work correctly  I went home, now minus the shattered glass and no new glass either, called my insurance company and told them I wanted the dealer to fix my car. So here comes another week without my GTI and an additional out of pocket expense in the form of deductible  Hopefully it will be good as new. I'll then work on the mud guards

I just leased a Passat Wagon, so I can kind of help you compare. Here is what your deal seems to be: MSRP: 28814 Cap Cost: 24370 Residual : 50% Money Factor: .00023 Effective APR: 0.55% Term: 36 Residual: 14407 Depreciation: 9963 Monthly Depreciation: 276.75 Monthly Finance Fee: 8.92 Total Monthly Payment: 285.67 Cap Cost: 24370 Invoice on that car is 26,953. With the $2k and $1k back, and add in the $575 acquisition fee, you are at around $158 below invoice. ---- To compare, I got a Passat Lux Wagon with $500 down MSRP: 33214 Cap Cost: 29959.97 Residual : 40% Money Factor: .00087 Effective APR: 2.09% Term: 48 Residual: 13285.6 Depreciation: 16674.37 Monthly Depreciation: 347.38 Monthly Finance Fee: 37.62 Total Monthly Payment: 385.01 My invoice was $30,996. - $1k (no trade in or loyalty :( ) + $575 acquisition comes out to about $611 under invoice. I also have the doc fee rolled into the cap cost (actually they just reduced the cost by the doc fee so I didn't really pay it). So I think you should be able to reduce the sale price by $500 and get rid of the doc fee. Who knows what other dealer incentives are on these. I'm in AZ, which it looks like you are too. These are some amazing lease deals. So if you reduced your down payment by the doc fee, and reduced the sale price $500 you would have: MSRP: 28814 Cap Cost: 23870 Residual : 50% Money Factor: .00023 Effective APR: 0.55% Term: 36 Residual: 14407 Depreciation: 9463 Monthly Depreciation: 262.86 Monthly Finance Fee: 8.80 Total Monthly Payment: 271.66
BOUGHT 2008 GTI
by goose on Thu May 01 21:07:57 PDT 2008
Woot, I just traded in my 2006 Honda EX coupe automatic :surprise: for a red 2008 GTI auto. Back in 2005 I was one of the first people in southern AZ to have the 2006 coupe. It was a great car and was a significant improvement from the 1996 Civic I last owned. I loved the new 2 tier instrument panel too. The only missing thing was the navigation system. Moving forward to the present. I started to look at the latest Honda's and was about to purchase a new Civic (yes the same model just new) with navigation when I decided to take a GTI for a spin. Back in 2005 I did take a GLI for a test drive and was left with good feelings except for the bad reputation the VW had. Back to today, as I was driving off the lot I was instantly sold on the GTI. It has low end torque and the ride is nicer than the Civic. The whole package is an upgrade from the Civic. I probably should sacrifice something to the reliability god :) but of course that would be against the law. However I do hope the GTI is reliable. One thing about my old Civic is I had two issues which required a trip to the dealer. Nothing serious but it still required dealer repair. I expect a couple of trips to the VW dealer and higher maintenance costs but we'll see. The price before tax and license was $24200.00 for a DSG, 17" wheels, moon roof, tinted windows and bad weather mats. The only option I did want was mud guards however its not an option for 2008, how odd. Well I look forward to many great commutes and trips around my area. Oh I bought it from the only VW dealer in southern AZ. Also I used an internet buying service :shades:
Deal or no Deal: 2007 VW GTI
by techcho on Sat Jul 29 22:21:57 PDT 2006
Sir, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy a newly released '07 model VW GTI. In Scottsdale, Arizona they have recieved a couple in their dealerships, and I got dealer offer for a '07 that is expected with their next shipment. (within a week.) exactly the specs I want. This is the first offer he gave me and said he couldn't go lower. Should I still try and go lower.. if so how much do you think. 2007 Volkswagen GTI, Auto(DSG), United Grey, no packages, 18" wheel upgrade. The offer from the dealer was that I can put a deposit on the car so that no dealer add-ons happen once the car arrives. He offered me $800 above invoice, which sounds like a good deal for a newly released '07, but the out-the-door price seems high. Invoice price: $22,707 MSRP: $24,555 ----------------------- Invoice price: $22,707 Mark-up: $800 Phoenix dealer advertising fees: $200 interest reserve???: $142 port prep: $25 ---------- total before tax(8.0%?): $23,874 + tax + plates + doc fee $26,600 OTD. I am new to Arizona and don't know what the plates cost as well as the doc fee. I already have a AZ plate I can transfer from my old car. Does that mean I don't have to pay the plate fees?? I read in many places that buyers of the GTI in arizona paid less than this for their '06's Is this a decent deal considering the car is just arriving, or should it not matter since it is not a redesign year for the GTI?? Thanks for your time! DC from Arizona.
Re: 06 Jetta dies right after purchase [chris_tx]

You are probably correct, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. They offered a replacement, but didnt want one (we have an 04 GTI). And frankly, everything else about the purchase was great. I'd go back to the dealership IF I were to buy another VW, which will depend on how often things like this happen. Hopefully never again.
06 Jetta dies right after purchase
by jwboyce on Sat Jun 24 14:09:56 PDT 2006
I could have posted this under "Jetta Problems and Solutions", but since it happened IMMEDIATELY after our purchase, I thought I'd share this with y'all instead... it was part of our "buying experience"! Last weekend we picked up our 06 Jetta GLI, custom-built from the factory (we paid invoice, by the way). On the drive home from the dealership, the car stalled at a red light, then locked itself into park when I tried to restart it. I spent 30 minutes directing traffic in the 105F heat. It was diagnosed at a computer malfunction in the transmission, and we're still waiting for the new chip to be shipped from Germany. I'm frustrated, and I feel like I deserve some compensation, but I have no idea what, and they certainly aren't volunteering anything other than apologies. Are we entitled to compensation, or is it just tough luck?
