They offered a replacement, but didnt want one (we have an 04 GTI). And frankly, everything else about the purchase was great. I'd go back to the dealership IF I were to buy another VW, which will depend on how often things like this happen. Hopefully never again.

06 Jetta dies right after purchase: by jwboyce on Sat Jun 24 14:09:56 PDT 2006; I could have posted this under "Jetta Problems and Solutions", but since it happened IMMEDIATELY after our purchase, I thought I'd share this with y'all instead... it was part of our "buying experience"! Last weekend we picked up our 06 Jetta GLI, custom-built from the factory (we paid invoice, by the way). On the drive home from the dealership, the car stalled at a red light, then locked itself into park when I tried to restart it. I spent 30 minutes directing traffic in the 105F heat. It was diagnosed at a computer malfunction in the transmission, and we're still waiting for the new chip to be shipped from Germany. I'm frustrated, and I feel like I deserve some compensation, but I have no idea what, and they certainly aren't volunteering anything other than apologies. Are we entitled to compensation, or is it just tough luck?

Where did you get that info (not a doubter, just curious). Also curious, how do you get all these useful numbers (MF, residual) people keep asking you for? Thanks for your good work. Our custom GLI is scheduled for delivery in mid June (see my post in "Volkswagen Jetta: Prices Paid & Buying Experience" #144), and while we are likely to buy, we'd be open to leasing if the terms were good enough.

Re: 2006 GLI price via Costco in Phoenix [joanlm]: by jwboyce on Tue May 30 20:42:43 PDT 2006; I'm pretty sure that no dealersip will make a customer order a car that they have for sale on the lot. it just costs them money, and risks the consumer walking away. if they could have found what we wanted, they would have gone to get it, had the sale, and been done. Sounds like you got more of a story than I did, but it also sounds like your situation (selling a used car) is pretty different than mine (buying a new one).

2006 GLI price via Costco in Phoenix: by jwboyce on Fri Mar 24 11:11:08 PST 2006; 2006 GLIs are apparently hard to find when fully loaded - our sales person said she finally found one that was almost (but not quite) what we wanted - in Alabama - which meant ~800 bucks in extra delivery charges. My wife and I ended up ordering a custom 06 GLI from VW (wait time up to 4 months). Costco price was quoted as 200 over invoice for a total of $29326 (Pkg#2, 18in wheels, DVD Navigation, Rear Side Airbags, cargo net). But then you add in fees (doc=289, port=367, dealer prep=200) and it ends up $30182 (~1K over straight invoice). Could we have done better? Perhaps. But we were happy getting ~2350 under MSRP for the exact car we wanted with no hassle from a great salesperson. Now we wait, and ponder our need for a second car...
