Deal or no Deal: 2007 VW GTI
by techcho on Sat Jul 29 22:21:57 PDT 2006
Sir, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy a newly released '07 model VW GTI. In Scottsdale, Arizona they have recieved a couple in their dealerships, and I got dealer offer for a '07 that is expected with their next shipment. (within a week.) exactly the specs I want. This is the first offer he gave me and said he couldn't go lower. Should I still try and go lower.. if so how much do you think. 2007 Volkswagen GTI, Auto(DSG), United Grey, no packages, 18" wheel upgrade. The offer from the dealer was that I can put a deposit on the car so that no dealer add-ons happen once the car arrives. He offered me $800 above invoice, which sounds like a good deal for a newly released '07, but the out-the-door price seems high. Invoice price: $22,707 MSRP: $24,555 ----------------------- Invoice price: $22,707 Mark-up: $800 Phoenix dealer advertising fees: $200 interest reserve???: $142 port prep: $25 ---------- total before tax(8.0%?): $23,874 + tax + plates + doc fee $26,600 OTD. I am new to Arizona and don't know what the plates cost as well as the doc fee. I already have a AZ plate I can transfer from my old car. Does that mean I don't have to pay the plate fees?? I read in many places that buyers of the GTI in arizona paid less than this for their '06's Is this a decent deal considering the car is just arriving, or should it not matter since it is not a redesign year for the GTI?? Thanks for your time! DC from Arizona.
Re: 2006 GLI price via Costco in Phoenix [joanlm]

I'm pretty sure that no dealersip will make a customer order a car that they have for sale on the lot. it just costs them money, and risks the consumer walking away. if they could have found what we wanted, they would have gone to get it, had the sale, and been done. Sounds like you got more of a story than I did, but it also sounds like your situation (selling a used car) is pretty different than mine (buying a new one).
2006 GLI price via Costco in Phoenix
by jwboyce on Fri Mar 24 11:11:08 PST 2006
2006 GLIs are apparently hard to find when fully loaded - our sales person said she finally found one that was almost (but not quite) what we wanted - in Alabama - which meant ~800 bucks in extra delivery charges. My wife and I ended up ordering a custom 06 GLI from VW (wait time up to 4 months). Costco price was quoted as 200 over invoice for a total of $29326 (Pkg#2, 18in wheels, DVD Navigation, Rear Side Airbags, cargo net). But then you add in fees (doc=289, port=367, dealer prep=200) and it ends up $30182 (~1K over straight invoice). Could we have done better? Perhaps. But we were happy getting ~2350 under MSRP for the exact car we wanted with no hassle from a great salesperson. Now we wait, and ponder our need for a second car...

Sorry for the tardy response. I have been shopping.... I agree with fifty five that the negotiated capitalized cost is critical to a lease negotiation. However, so are the residuals and the money/lease factor and other lease related fees such as the acquisition fee and disposition fees that may be charged at the initiation of the lease and at the end of a lease. At this time it appears that the numbers for the WV Passat 2001.5 are according to Car_Man and others: Residual is 69% after two years 24000 miles Residual is 62% after three years 36000 miles Money factor is .00320 or 7.68% on the above terms WV Acquisition Fee is $490 I have not been able to determine if there is a disposition fee. I will ask Car_Man to help with that info. In Phoenix, AZ, dealers will also charge a DOC fee of $199 to $299. This is mostly profit, but I have yet to find a dealer of any brand waive this charge. I have not closed a deal with any dealer yet, but I plan to offer $500 profit over invoice (dealer keeps hold backs) plus the $117 port/flooring fee that WV invoices. Thus, a GPS 1.8T with Luxury (PJ6), Leather (PAD), Home Link (VC1), Monsoon Radio (RAM) with a sticker of $25,805 will negotiate down to $24,053. Not including any DOC or acquisition fee, I would have a monthly payment of $394.19 plus AZ's $29.56 in sales tax for a two year 24,000 mile deal with nothing down. I am annoyed at the above market money factor and I may decide to wait. Thanks for your input and help.
2001 Passat Pricing
by srayer on Tue Sep 26 01:15:55 PDT 2000
Hello Everyone, My wife and I are looking to purchase '01 Passat GLS. The only options we are interested in are the Monsoon System and Luxury Package. Wondering what we could expect to pay for the car? I have priced the invoice cost as follows: Passat GLS 5spd : $19,519 Luxury Pkg : $ 1,369 Monsoon : $ 287 Destination : $ 525 ------------------------- Total : $21,700 To be honest with you, I am not really sure how popular Passat's are, but I certainly don't see too many of them on the road here in Phoenix. Are VW dealers known to be easy to deal with when it comes to price negotiating? Not sure if if $300 over invoice would be pushing it? I would love to get this car for $22,000 before TTL. What do you think?
