My Numbers Don't Balance
by edukatedredhed on Tue Jan 15 11:26:59 PST 2008
Hello! I will be leasing my first Toyota tomorrow and have a couple of questions. 1. I paid my down payment Saturday and signed off on the worksheet. The car will be delivered tomorrow. Am I correct in assuming the worksheet signature only indicates my authorization to check my credit and is NOT an agreement to purchase? The reason I ask that question is I was trying to work the numbers to match all of the pieces I was told, and I can't do it. See item #2. Here are the numbers, as was told to me by the salesman: 2008 HL Sport + Option package H + XM + Special paint color. + All-Weather Mats MSRP: 38,002 Cap Cost: 35,028 Residual: 18,272 Due up front: 795 Money Factor: .158 (I think there are 0's missing) Monthly Pmt: 625 2. I can't get those numbers above to come out to a $625 payment through the LeaseGuide. I get a payment of $588 or so. I can't get the options and accessories to add up to the MSRP above via the Toyota Build-Your-Toyota site. (BTW, I'm purchasing in TN) 3. The worksheet I signed only shows the payment of $625, which is the payment amount I said was the MOST I'd pay. Am I stuck with that? 4. Do those numbers make sense to anyone else? 5. Is this an overall good deal? Any quick response is appreciated. =)
2008 Black Sienna XLE EVP #3, AW 17"
by bboy2 on Tue Jan 08 19:26:35 PST 2008
I was at the dealership yesterday (big mistake) had done lot's of research thanks to you guys! I started talking invoice price and they said their invoice was $30,231 after $1000 rebate. I made an offer that equalled $29,000 after killing me on a trade. According to Edmunds the invoice would be $28,518 after $1000 rebate. That is $1200 off from where they were. They let me walk after dealing with a sit down with the pit boss who tried to make me feel like an idiot. They were saying things such as "we would be losing money", and "do you wanna see the invoice?" What is a fair price for this vehicle? We are cash customers so the rebate applies though I feel like the rebate has been lost in the shuffle. We only have one dealership in town but another 4 within a 60 mile radius (Nashville, TN. area). Thanks for any tips!

Re: SET administration fees [kyfdx]

Regarding "I live in South Carolina and I am leaning towards the Rav4 over the CRV. Now, in SC, there is what is called "SET administration fees". It is added to the price and it is about $600. This is not a dealer fee, it is a Toyota fee. You thus still have to pay the normal dealer fees and taxes. The "SET administration fees" appears on a Toyota model when it iis time to choose the options on edmunds.com. " Kyfdx writes: "It is what it is... I wouldn't focus on the $600.. " ??? You've gotta be kidding. The person who wrote this lives in SC. Depending on WHERE in SC, they very likely could be less than an hour's drive from NC or TN. All it would take is a few phone calls or e-mails to save the $600. How absurd is it in this day and age where information is freely shared and distances of a hundred miles or so are no hassle at all to just eat $600 on a deal because of some archaic Toyota system? Just another reason for me to go back to Honda!

We bought an Le FWD pkg. 3 on the 1st of Sept. and paid 25,000 after rebate +TTL in Nashville Tn. We live in Memphis and this was the closest dealer to take my offer of 25,000. We didn't have the luxury to bargain too low a price because there just aren't many around here, none in Memphis like we wanted(2 CE and 1 Le Pkg. 2)and were pressed to get the 2,000 rebate before it expired. On the Siennaclub.org forum, I read where a lady bought one around April or May for 24,500 some odd dollars and I just told them I knew they could make money on 25,000 and they took it. The dealer there claims they are the the biggest in 37 states and that they like volume. They had to get it from another dealer and one dealer here in Memphis could do it too but they wouldn't come off 26,700. I believe you're getting a good deal you better hurry while you can.

To those of you in FL and the Southeast: Just say NO to Southeast Toyota! DRIVE to Tennessee or Virginia to get your Toyota. I used to live in Alabama and bought my vehicle in TN since I refused to pay Southeast Toyota prices (FL, GA, AL, NC, SC). You will save at least $1500 and you will have a more "genuine" vehicle without a bunch of non-standard add-ons which are not available nationally.
