2006 Double Cab 2WD in South Carolina
by flatthead on Wed Dec 20 23:42:24 PST 2006
Hi All: I went to the local dealer in Greer, SC... Apparently there are no more Access Cabs. They have maybe 6-8 Double Cabs. Price quoted was $26,300 for the Sporty special edition one: leather, 20" wheels running boards, etc. I think $25,300 would buy it. Also I'm pretty sure I can get an SR-5 with nice alloy wheels and maybe a bedliner for $22-23K out the door. Cloth interior, no running boards, no wood trim, etc,... What do you all think? I haven't gone to Spartanburg, Anderson or Asheville yet. Should I try Atlanta? It's 2-3 hours from me. Thanks for everyone's input, and best regards J
TCH bought on 9/23/06

Applied via email to 6 dealers in the Greenville, SC metro area on Sept. 6th. Asked for only base version since I already have laptop based navigation. All dealers replied with standard quotes at MSRP or well above it. But surprisingly one of the highest standard quotes came back later with a personalized quote that agreed to give me the TCH for what I asked for, namely $25,000 + $580 destination charge + $39 tag fee. No documentation fee as I had clearly stated that I will not pay it. These were based on old Edmunds invoice prices. I emailed the local dealer for a price match but got no reply. Went on 9th to test drive the car. Titanium color. Liked it and had 18 miles on it. Internet manager told me they had another one arriving on 26th. Signed agreement to purchase it if they could deliver by the 30th. Got call on September 22nd stating that the car had arrived. Went on 23rd and paid by check and drove the car home. Only nagging feeling was lack of heated mirrors since it tends to get frosty her in wintertime (no snow). But did not want to push my luck and asking for it and not having it delivered in time. At home I saw the window sticker under the passenger seat and it had the heated mirrors as the extra installed option (what a stroke of luck). So it appears that I had gotten a vehicle $900 under MSRP and there was a $40 less on destination charge since they calculated using old rates, and a free $30 option. The total time for initial visit was 45 minutes and the delivery of vehicle and signing papers took 45 minutes. The car had 2 miles on it and smelled good. I have used it for 75 miles so far with no major problems. I have managed to avail myself of the federal tax credit of $2600 and SC tax credit of 20 % of it ($520) for a total of $3150. This makes this $22400 car cheaper than many basic Camrys even if you add all the options. SC dealers seemed to have basic hybrids on their lots and are selling at or below MSRP. I got mine for Dave Edwards Toyota of Spartanburg, SC. Email the internet manager. It was a very professional experience to deal with him and he is a very friendly guy.
Price Paid on Ltd - Greenville, SC

In mid-July, I took delivery of an '05 Limited (Silver Pine / Light Gray Int) with VSC, Mats, and XM Installation for a negotiated price of $34,009 ($1,449 off of MSRP) and total drive-off cost of $34,733. To get this color choice, the car had to be located from allocation, which took 1.5 months. I am in Greenville/Spartanburg, SC and most dealers in the area were not willing to budge much off of MSRP up to this point. In this case, I got $1000 off MSRP and the XM unit and installation included for no charge (= a $449 discount). Also ended up getting $400 more for my 8 year old trade-in than I thought I deserved, but that is really a separate matter. It seems that in certain parts of the country, people are getting better deals, but in this area, this did not seem to be a bad deal. In this case, I was not too consumed with the whole "over invoice" thing. This is a hot car, at a hot time, and market conditions the realities of supply/demand are in effect. I also think this car is really a good value relative to other cars of its size & performance (e.g. Lexus). I guess I could have waited months or even a year to get a good "over invoice" price, but I wanted the damn thing! The only other car I was tempted by was the Chrysler 300, which I could have gotten at a really great price "over invoice", but that is the discount DC must give to compensate for the "quality" deficit. In the end, my intrigue with look of that car faded. Now when I pass them on the road, I am glad I'm in my Avalon! My biggest compaint was the EMBARRASSING XM installation by Southeast Toyota Distributors. These jokers put that big black antenna on the middle right edge of the trunk lid. Even my dealer seemed embarrassed over this and offered to relocate it. I ended up doing it myself, moving to the inside of the car right atop the rear interior brake light (right under the rear window). I painted it light gray to match the interior so it is very discreet. How is that I am more creative than the idiots at SET and I don't even do this for a living? In the process of relocating the antenna, I also discovered that the XM unit was very loosely bolted onto the bracket in the trunk. It would have eventually wobbled loose had I not secured it. Minor notice of the transmission issue, but after 1100 miles, I have had a hard time getting overly concerned about it. Will continue to monitor it. All in all a very happy camper so far.
XLE AWD pkg #17
by mtnfpdoc on Sun Nov 09 19:18:47 PST 2003
I have been researching this minivan purchase for 6 months now and find the Edmunds web site and townhall very helpful. I took the approach that hatcher8 did and emailed 21 dealerships within a 3-4 hour radius (western North Carolina) for a XLE awd with pkg #17. 16 responded, 14 MRSP, 2 below MRSP. Toyota Center (Columbia, SC)was about $2000 below MRSP but had a 16-20 week wait. Dave Edwards (Spartanburg, SC) $1500 below MRSP, but hasn't provided delivery date info. I've decided to go with a local dealer who says he can do $500 off MRSP and deliver in 45-60 days (optimistic on the delivery date?). This is similar to the deal that indyjones shared with us (post #2491). From the posts on this forum, the pricing seems to be dependent on the trim you're interested in, region of the country, how far you're willing to go to get your van, and how soon you want it. Although I'd rather keep more of my hard earned money in my wallet and not give the dealer such a handsome profit, this is a great, safe family vehicle. I anticipate keeping this vehicle for as long as any other car I've owned (7-8+ years). I could try and wait another year to see if prices cool down, but our family is busting at the seams in our current sedan every time we go for more than an hour's drive. Good luck to everyone in this hunt, I hope some of this information is helpful to other shoppers.
