wow from Eugene to Burien... now thats far. I had to drive from Renton to Eugene a month ago... never again on the same day, got to at least stop in Portland for a night Last week I started asking for quotes from dealerships in the Portland area. All of them were giving me a quote of 500 dollar OVER invoice except for Gresham Toyota which straight off the bat gave me a price of 100 under invoice. I emailed other dealerships and all of them told me to go buy from Gresham Toyota. My mom really needed a car because her last car died and she needed a car to go to work but I was stuck in Eugene (maybe I should of tried the Eugene dealership also) because it was the weekend before finals and I couldn't afford to waste studying time to go to dealerships and spend all day negotiating. My mom got really anxious to get a new car but she has no knowledge on pricing or negotiating at all, so I just told her to go to Gresham Toyota and just tell them you'll only buy for 19,000. My mom ended up settling for 19400 but if I was there I probably would of gotten them to go down to 19,000 eventually.

I bought at Gladstone. Test drove at Gresham. Tonkin gave me the best internet quote. Really, I thought everyone I dealt with was pretty reasonable - no one super pushy.
My 05

I went looking for a 2005 Tacoma 4X4. After looking around, I came to the realization that I wanted the following options: 1. 110 outlet in the bed. 2. BFG Tires 3. Crew cab 4. Towing package 5. 6 speed 6. V6 7. Front tow hook ( I pull alot of domestics out. Ok, Foreigns too) 8. Dark color In the Pacific NW, TRD Off Road package 2 was the only option (and a fine one). The next step was to scour the Tacoma area. That was a challenge. Everyone wants that option. Quite frankly, the dealers don't have to deal because the trucks sell themselves. Toyota of Puyallup and Larson Toyota did not have ANY crew cab 4X4s. Both promised to call when they got one. I did drive some other models. I refused to order a truck, as different wheel bases, tires and engines don't give you a picture of the exact truck. I found one at Titus that was black. Another identical one came in while I was test driving the one I bought. The other one sold before I got back the next morning to buy mine. Mine had a manufacture's recc price of 29,500. It had a second sticker of 32,500 from Gresham Toyota in Portland, Or. I actually passed on mine originally brcause of the second sticker. The salesman caught the mistake. Up here they don't do second stickers. In Portland, they get away with that too. They offer rebates on everything but the Tacomas here because they sell good. One of the other dealers still has not called. The other called 2 weeks after I visited to say they could only find one truck and it was white. That is demand. Atleast I didn't pay 33K for a much inferior Ridgeline....
2005 Matrix XR -- Portland, OR

I sincerely thank you for all your posts and such. I can't say enough good things about you and about this web site. It was a fabulous help in this car buying process. We just picked up a 2005 Matrix XR with FE, BE, CK, EV, AB, QP, and Z1 through the internet department at Gresham Toyota. We paid $18,704 OTD (about $150 less than TMV from edmunds.com), including TT&L (no sales tax in Oregon!!) It seems that Toyota only includes Side and Curtain airbags with the QP (Extra Value Package #2), so we also got the moonroof ... it's a nice extra in a great car. We could have done better if there had been any rebates in our area, but I'm happy with the deal we got. We could not find the car locally in the color we wanted, but our salesperson worked hard to find an "A Trade" for us. That's an electronic swap in inventory (sometimes before the car is even built) that won't cost you the $250 or so "finder's fee," which is ridiculous. The car drives great and we just love it. No regrets here, at all, with our Matrix. We did, however, find some dealers that were not honoring the $800 MSRP discount on the Extra Value Package #2. One salesman in Salem told me flat out that I was lying to him about it, so I just went elsewhere. I knew I'd be walking out when he said, "There is no way you know what we paid for this car!" I responded that it's public information on the web, then left. We found much better deals in the big city (Portland) than we did in the surrounding smaller towns with Toyota dealerships. The bottom line is don't go into that dealership without your TMV report and your own financing. We secured financing through Capitol One/Costco at a great interest rate. They told me that Toyota Financial couldn't beat it until the Finance Director at the dealership decided last minute to beat it by 0.25%. So, get the best deal on financing you can on your own and don't talk financing unless they show you a better deal.
They're smarter than I am

I was ready to buy a Highlander in July, but decided to wait for the model year change when I could pick up an 03 with a big rebate. Wrong! They just delayed the 04s till most of the 03s were gone. So I started shopping for an 04 in Portland, Or. which was mostly a positive experience. I had one visit to a dealer, then went online, which is the only way to go. Straightforward information, lower pricing, and many less miles driven. Dealers here are selling 04s for $500 to $1000 over the invoice cost. Problem is that everything here, and coming in the next two months, is loaded with options, kicking the pricing levels well over $30,000 for an AWD V6. And, how often do I use the roof rack (never)spoiler, running boards and on and on. I found that Edmunds pricing information is very accurate. The base price for an AWD V6 is $24,375. What they don't tell you, however, is the REAL base price is $23,555. Then, you have to add a "dealer holdback" of $547 and a "Whsl. financial reserve" of $273. That makes $24,375 as Edmunds states. Next comes the Destination charge of $540 and TDA of $530. None of these costs are negotiable in our area, so you in effect have a base of $25,445. So now we see that they're going to make a little more than $500 to sell the vehicle. Next come the options, and all dealers will work at invoice cost plus their profit, as I said before, $500 to $1000 depending on availablity. I ended up special ordering a V6 AWD with only fog lights, tow package, mud flaps, and heated mirrors. I can buy whatever else I really want aftermarket for a lot less money. Total price out the door is $26,267. Had good experience with Vancouver Toyota,Gresham,Thomason, and Royal Moore. Email me for best salesman: pjaatpdx@ispwest.com Also, FYI running boards (not listed on Edmunds)cost the dealer $410 and retail for $625.
