Re: Was this REALLY bad...helpless in NJ [jacky908]

jacky908 - you may have done better than you think. Here's the "invoice" prices: 4x4 LTD V6 $24,405.00 Freight $685.00 TDA $500.00 (estimate) LA Leather Seats $840.00 SR Moon Roof $720.00 EJ Radio $480.00 HD Heated Seats $352.00 CF Floor Mats (dealer Installed) $126.00 TO Tow Prep $128.00 RL Running Lights $32.00 TOTAL $28,268.00 Not sure what taxes and tags cost in NJ you but if you got OTD for $29,000, that's not too bad considering invoice is $28,268. On top of that, it sounds like you got some dealer installed options (remote starter, mirror, etc). Only negatives, I see are the 5,000 demo miles and the 7.74% interest rate. I just did a deal in MD for 5.25%. Times are tough and banks want to make you a loan. If your credit is good, they will bend over backwards to give you a good interest rate. I think the 3 month wait is BS; you should be able to refi as soon as you can get your hands on the title. In MD, that takes about 2 weeks.

Linzee: Also remember this--dealers continually do dealer trades--I live at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri--bought my wife's 08 RAV4 in Sedalia, MO and it was trailered from near South Bend, IN. Take a look at one of your local dealers inventories--click on RAV4--you'll see "in stock"--what he has on the lot and also "available"--what is in a manufacturers pool of cars available to all the dealers. Again--best bet--find one on the lot you like--then start negotiating!! GET THE $39 Consumer Reports Car Buying Kit----best $39 you can spend! You can get the dealers cost---dealers invoice which includes the holdback and the MSRP. The report lists all option and the dealer cost and MSRP cost. Go to www.consumerreports.org Have fun!! Bob

I think people who focus on the payment always do worse than those who focus on the price. Why do you think salesmen always want to focus on the payment instead of price? Because it's a better deal for them. That said, if you're happy with the deal, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Just enjoy your new car.

About the radio installation kit. Best Buy here (Bend OR) put a radio in my 4d with no problems. They took kit for Echo, or maybe Scion, and had to do a little modification, but no problem. Anyway, $125 for radio installed beats the dealers price. Bob

I am so glad you enjoy your yaris as much as I do. I bought the four door sedan for my daughter. She does not get her license until December so I am driving it until she does. It is wonderful, fun and just down right cute. I have noticed all the new cars that are in the same price range, but nothing even close to the style of the yaris. My grandmother is in a wheel chair so I went with the four door so we could put her wheel chair in the trunk, well my uncle bought a honda civic and he picks up my grandmother on the weekends and she told me that my (my daughters) car has more head room and she don't have to bend her head down while riding in it like she does the honda civic. I was so thrilled because not only was the civic more expensive but it had less head room. I also have a toyota avalon and I love it also, so I wanted a toyota brand car because I felt it would be dependable for my daughter. I love the yaris, it is so roomy and I love the front end design, very sharp looking. The very first day I bought it we were on our way to charleston for a meeting and I had so many people on interstate looking at it. I bought one in black and I am buying my daughter some graphics for it. OH, I also wanted to ask if anyone knows when there will be a radio installation and wiring harness coming out for it. I have went to best buy three times and they say that there is still not a kit for it. I was told not to buy one off ebay because it might not be the right one. I bought the yaris with out a radio but I had the dealer put one in but my daughter carries her Ipod everywhere and she needs a radio that she can use her ipod in. I was not going to pay $1500.00 for the toyota brand radio. If anyone knows please let me know. :D
Re: RAV4 Limited V6 4x4 Ordered Today (1/22/07) [homerfan]

I've been on vacation so just catching up a little here. Congrats, homerfan. You got a very good deal. If you had bought from Fitzmall you could have saved an addition $300 but it wouldn't have been worth it if you live in Utah. You say you didn't really pay $500 over invoice but in dealers lingo you did. You paid $500 over the Toyota invoice which is the only invoice a dealer will talk about. It is true the dealer cost was only $23,337 but the Toyota invoice will include gas, dealer holdback, WFR and advertising and the dealer will have to have a pretty good reason to go below Toyota invoice. Fitzmall is $200 over Toyota invoice and it is exceptional to get better than that. A few have but it is rare. I live in Bend, Oregon, and found that the Costco price in Denver and LA is the same as what you paid, $500 over invoice. In Salem, Oregon, it is $500 under MSRP. Here in Bend it is $1400 under MSRP. I can't really justify going to the east coast so I am probably going to have to pay what you paid. I still have a few places to check in Northern California, Oregon and Washington but I doubt I will do much better. Question: Was your RAV on the lot in Lewiston or was it a special order/dealer swap, etc. Also, if this was a special order, did you order the Towing Receiver Hitch? I don't think I've seen one with that option.
