Re: My price and dealer [wstevec]

Steve, it is hard to find this sort of 'no commission' dealer. I knew about Kenosha, WI's CarMax, a chain of 'superstore' dealers located mostly in the west. I didn't know of any others, but then I remembered my mother (of all people) said she got a fantastic deal from Rhinelander Honda (company also owns Rhinelander Toyota and some auto stores over toward ND) - better than any price she found in Tucson when she bought the same car there. That's the reason I contacted them... Also they are right in our area. For you, being in Mass, would you consider going to MD to save a few bucks? Go to carmax.com to find their Toyota dealer closest to you. Wouldn't hurt to try. Or start calling around and ask for 'best price' or 'no commission' dealers. Sometimes friends or local bankers know ones closer. Maybe even calling my Toyota dealer or Carmax will get you into the info loop as there probably is a secret society of this type of dealers. Dealers shunned by high cost dealers probably need to stick together. Good luck!
Re: Prius Tax Credit - now you see it...now you don't. [larsb]

It was indeed a "bait and switch" operation. Please note that I never said that the dealer was doing the baiting nd the switching. They knew little more about the future consequences than the buyers. It was CONGRESS that provided the bait with the enabling legislation that permitted the tax credit, and it was the IRS (with, or without the complicity of Congress??) that did the switch by producing a set of criteria that made the tax credit partially, if not totally illusory.
Re: Question about invoice price [littlechloe]

Not sure how you can get an accurate invoice. I noticed a wide variation as well, depending on the source - KBB, Edmunds, the dealer, etc. I live in Tampa Bay, Florida nd recently purchased my vehicle after shopping price for awhile. I negotiated with several dealers over the course of a couple of weeks. Most negotiations were on the internet or phone. I also checked CarsDirect, AutoAdvisor and CarBargains. As I understand it, there is a Southeast Toyota admin charge to dealers in the South of $629.00 which makes it more expensive to purchase in AL, FL, GA, NC & SC. I ended up paying $23,200 at a local dealer for the base V6, 2WD with lifetime powertrain warranty and these options: Roof Rack Tonneau cover AM/FM 6 CD Running lights Bumper cover Floor Mats $24,800 with tax, tag & title These were the prices I was given from the buying services: CarsDirect - $25,150 OTD AutoAdvisor - $23,750 (plus tax, tag, title) CarBargains does not negotiate price on the base model
Thanks For Saving Me $670!!
by rodc2 on Tue Mar 07 08:22:49 PST 2006
I have learned many things on Edmunds forums and have been helped considerably in all my Avalon decisions. The most recent was using the knowledge gained here to save $670. Although not normally a fan of extended warranties, I was a little concerned with the cost of potential failures of some of the "Gee Whiz Electronics" in my '06 Limited. My dealership initially wanted $1650 (retail price) for the Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty (7 Year/100,000 mile/zero deductable). I used the information gained from Edmunds forums to reduce the price to $980, which I consider a much more reasonable cost for this additional "peace of mind". The best thing about it was my dealership's "Service Contract Reimbursement Guarantee" which states "in writing" that I will receive a 100% reimbursement of my $980 at the conclusion of warranty period if the extended warranty has never been used. My dealership was Heartland Toyota of Bremerton Washington who provided me a very pleasant buying experience in all respects. Other dealerships that allegedly (I have not confirmed this personally) sell the Toyota Platinum 7 year/100,000 mile/zero deductable warranty for $985 are: Toyota of Greenfield, MA Toyota of Glen Burnie, MD Crown Toyota, KS Dan Porter Motors, ND Stone's Town & Country Motors, ID Thanks again for all the great forum inputs. Shopping for Avalon Limited
by treynard on Wed Mar 16 10:30:50 PST 2005
I've looked over the new '05 Avalons, and I'm leaning towards the Limited. However, I have not been able to get discounts over $2,000 ... and my target is a minimum of $3,000 discount under sticker. That's about $1,400 over dealer invoice, as best I can determine. How long do you think it will take for prices to soften? What would be a reasonable low price offer for an Limited with an MSRP of $35,600? I'm prepared to wait if necessary. It seems that anytime you are among the first to buy a new model, you pay too much. Anyone have any upper midwest dealers to recommend for a good price? MN, WI, IA, ND, SD. T Reynard
