Banks set the rates, not the dealers. Dealers can mark the rate up (only up to a limit based on your FICO), but they cannot reduce it below their buy rate. Bottom line, if Toyota is offering special financing of 4.9%, that's what you get. 9 times outta' 10 when a manufacturer offers special financing, no credit union or major lender can compete. How much does the vehicle that you want list for? A Limited Highlander can probably be had for about $500 over invoice. As a ballpark, at roughly 5% for 60 mo, every $500 is about $10/mo in payments.
Re: TCH price in NJ [quixotic1]

Hello, after continuous research on this site and others, I bought my TCH at crystal toyota in Greenbrook, NJ on June 30th. Barring CA, I probably got the best deal that can be had in the northeast. I got the level 4 TCH, including all options. The following tips Go on the last day of the month, do your homework before that of the lowest price going on thru this site. Email the internet department that morning with your offer after looking up their inventory online including colors and VIN #s. First response online will be negative but talk to them on the phone at bout noon and be firm about your offer. They come around if you show your knowledge about dealing and prices. My name is Mahendra Patel if it helps make the deal. After that they are pretty straightforward and stand behind their word and no playing games.Of course, you have to make you decisions on financing and warranties(joke) and gap insurances and stand firm. I got 5.90% toyota financing from them. This again, take your local bank or credit unions offer with you to deal. Per forum rules, I am not allowed to post names but there is only one internet manager and she is pretty good to deal with. I waited for a month to post this as I wanted to make sure that there are no backlashes from the dealer(it was that good a deal) before I out the word out on this board. Again, thanks to everybody on this board that posted as I saved a bundle of money and had a pleasant experience. BTW, I already have 6000 miles as I drive a lot.

Yes, I bought Camry LE for 20,500 out the door from Crystal Auto Mall on Route 22, Green Brook, NJ. If it is allowed here, I could also suggest the name of the salesman who got me this deal. The overall buying experience at Crystal was good..the negotiation lasted about 15-20 minutes. If you want to buy from Crystal, you should consider that they have a very small inventory. I had to wait for about 2 weeks to get a 4 cyl metallic grey LE without moonroof. I got over-the-phone offer of $20,800 out the door from Route 22 Toyota (on Route 22, Union, NJ) but I had problems with their committment and offer. I confirmed an offer of 20,800 OTD with their online sales manager, and he asked me to stop by and buy it from a specific salesman. When I called that salesman in the evening to confirm, he denied the offer saying it was too low for him to sell. Next day, the manager called again and asked me to stop by, and the same thing happened again. They were either playing games, or were just too stupid. I negotiated with at least 4-5 other Toyota dealerships in NJ, but no one quoted below 21k OTD.
Re: Highlander V6 Front Wheel Drive in NJ [akkijain]

AJ, First, keep in mind that different areas of the country have MUCH different demands for different types of vehicles. For example, AWD Highlanders here in Buffalo are VERY hard to come by. I'm at the highest volume Toyota Dealer here in Buffalo and have only 5 highlanders of any kind in inventory on the ground right at the moment. The normal number we have is somewhere between 40-50. Typically FWD models are discounted a bit more than AWD models in this area. However, from what I've heard, FWD models are much more in demand downstate in NY and in NJ. What I can tell you is that from what I can see, there are also not alot of them on dealer lots in New Jersey either, although there are several that are allocated to dealers in that area. I would recommend a dealer to work with if I had any experience with any in the area, but I'm sorry that I don't. What I would do is work with the dealer that you're most comfortable with, and make and see what they would be willing to sell the vehicle for over invoice. If they are reputable, they should not have a problem bringing out and showing you an invoice on a particular vehicle and then you can work from there. My best guess is that you're going to end up somewhere between $500 - $1000 over invoice on one in the area you're in. Then take a look to see if any rebates would make more sense or the special financing. However, stop into your local credit union or bank to have a competitive rate before going in so that you have a reasonable point of comparison. The least expensive V6 FWD highlander that I'm seeing in the NJ area from running a locate is $27,988 from what I can see. Hope this helps and good luck in your shopping. Ken

2004 Sienna XLE Limited (w/ Navigation Option) Purchase in Long Island
by babui on Tue Jun 08 09:06:59 PDT 2004
We spent the month of May searching Toyota dealers in Long Island/Greater New York area for a XLE Limited with navigation option. We searched on the internet for current stock for NJ/CT dealers and visited 7-8 dealers in Long Island/NYC. Nobody had the car we wanted with the color we wanted at the price we wanted. We wanted to pay as close to dealer price as shown on Edmunds and KBB. None of the dealers wanted to budge. At most, we were offered $500 off MSRP if we took an XLE off their lot. If we ordered from the factory, they wanted full MSRP. Quite frustrated, we decided to go with our AAA car buying service (we are AAA members). You can go to any AAA mentioned (also Costco) dealer and get a car for $1k-$2k above invoice. $1k above invoice is for lower models (LE); $1.5K for higher models and $2k for XLE models. They have to show you their invoice price and then charge $1k-$2k over that. We went to Smithtown Toyota in Suffolk County and ordered our car from there. Their invoice price matched Edmunds and they asked for $2k over that. Still, cheaper than what other dealers were asking. The best financing rate we had before walking into Smithtown was 4% from our credit union (we have excellent credit) but Smithtown beat that to give us 3.65% (we ordered our car on Jun 6th). The only thing that shocked us was taxes ($3,300+) and the fact that it will take approx 8 wks for delivery.
