Hi! This forum is wonderful, I was lucky to have found it. I have been watching this forum for a couple of months and I'm proud to announce that we just came back from closing the deal on our new Sienna! I used Edmund's.com, Consumer Reports, and OneMadMapper's May 03 post to develop my strategy. The vehicle I bought is the '08 Sienna Limited AWD with CF, HZ, QL, TO, and RM. MSRP: $42,001 The dealer cost that I calculated was: $35,927 (ie. Invoice - Advert fee - dealer holdback) Subtract the incentive as well if that's how you're negotiating. I added $500, and I started negotiating at that number ($36, 427) and ended at $36,700 on the phone with the sales manager. After this price was reached, I was able to choose my incentive ($1500 vs 1.9% APR). In the end, 5% tax, documentation fees (~200), and state registration fees were added. My calculated profit for the dealer is $773. That's it! I think we got an excellent value. After closing the deal, the dealership did note that that Sienna (Pine Mica) had been on the lot for 73 days. I think that's towards the long end and they were happy to have sold it. (Just the color that I was looking for, too!) I hope this helps other buyers. Happy hunting! PS. In case you're wondering, the dealership is Ira Toyota in Danvers, MA. It helps to negotiate a deal like this at a high-volume, low-margin dealership.

Just bought: Package#2 in Boston, MA

Hi folks, I bought a new '07, standard, package#2 at Herb Chambers Toyota for $22,450. Here are my experiences; I hope they are helpful to someone. If you read nothing else, read #7: 1. My goal was to get the Edmunds TMV ($22,450). Paying cash. 2. The best price I could get from any dealership in the area over the phone or email was $22,700. This was from Ira Toyota in Danvers. 3. The "no haggle" dealership, Expressway Motors, claimed that edmunds.com had the invoice price wrong. I haggled. They refused to go any lower than $1k over their inflated invoice (see holdback). 4. When presented with a printout of the Edmunds TMV, the Herb Chambers people praised my savvy, offered the car for that price, and then gauged $200 for the floormats and cargo mat, which I was surprised to see are not listed among the standard interior features on the site. I tried to push further and didn't get anywhere. I relented and paid the extra $200. 5. My trade-in was quite fair when compared to the blue-book value (it was also a very old car worth little). 6. I got three free sodas. The MSRP of a diet coke from the lobby vending machine was $1.40. w00t. 7. Had I not known what to expect as far as the trade-in, tax, and documentation cost, my ignorance might have cost me $1k or more. Once we agreed on the price of the car, they showed me the number with tax & fees for me to pay. Actually, they wrote it on a card and flashed the card at me. It was too high and I protested. What followed was truly bizarre. No judgment here, but consider: - after agreeing on $22,450, they wrote up a sales form for the full sticker price. "oops" - they *added* my trade-in instead of subtracting it on the next go-round. "oops" - they miscalculated the sales tax twice. The manager joked about being bad with numbers. Ha ha! Funny guy! 8. The warranty salesman had repeated difficulty spelling the word "maintenance." 9. When I turned down the extended service plan and the lo-jac, they both became hundreds of dollars cheaper. They were still not at all tempting to me. I went ahead and bought the toyota service plan, which essentially amounts to prepaying your first five years of oil changes and scheduled maintenance at small discount. It seems like a good investment if you plan to follow your warrantee schedule, which I do. I passed on everything else. Glad all that's over with!!! It occurs to me that the dealerships probably monitor these forums if they're smart. Well, hi Herb Chambers. Thanks for giving me a good price on the car. I'm glad I came, even if you did have some sketchy trouble with arithmetic.
Good Price and Good Service at Ira for LE #3
by dongliu on Wed Jun 27 20:45:46 PDT 2007
I deeply appreciate this forum and help from kind people here, so I would like to share my recent experience about Sienna LE #3. First, all dealers I went to in Boston area have very good service. I have not been hassled even once, not at Toyota, not at Honda, and not at Kia. Also, I was not charged any exotic fees. On the President's Day this year, I went to Boch Toyota and Honda. Up front they offered me Toyota Sienna CE for $20,700, and Honda Odyssey LE for $21,500. We like Sienna better, and would prefer stability control, so we kept on shopping. With the advice given on this forum, I tried e-mail attack. Another dealer gave me a very competitive quote, when rebate was $750. Benefited from historical information from this forum, I waited patiently for $1,500 rebate. Two weeks ago on Father's Day Sunday, armed with all the numbers I started the first trip to Ira Toyota at Danvers, just to test water. I wanted to set a very low but possible price level, and see dealer's response. I was fully prepared to leave on that day, and return several weeks later. I was prepared to give in after two months, or go to Boch Honda to see if I can get Honda Odyssey LE for $20,000. With all the actual price posted on this forum, I set my price to $23,400 after $1,500 rebate. I really do not want to pay more with Odyssey LE below $21,500. The excuse I gave is that Sienna CE was advertised at $19,777. The Sienna LE #3 lists at $29,122. With the same discount in absolute number like CE, LE #3 should come to $23,400. I am "generous" because I use absolute number of dollars. If using proportion, the price should be even lower. On that day, I drove into the parking lot. There were half a dozen salesmen waiting in the parking lot to greet us, and no other customer in sight. Inside the sales floor there were only two to three groups of customers. The salesman was very knowledgeable and very nice. He helped us choose the right van with our choice of color, from a dozen Siennas in the lot, 4 of which were LE #3. Somehow the list price became $29,488. I was offer $1,500 discount plus $1,500 rebate, so the dealer's quote was $26,488. After a long discussion, I had another thousand dollar off. At this point I was really surprised, and told the salesman honestly that I did not expect a Sienna with stability control, a mandatory feature in my view, would come so expensive. So I started to dis-engage in a nice way, and plan my dealing with Honda dealers. I understand it is their car, they are entitled to ask a good money. Just not my money at this price. The salesman went inside, and came back with a final price of $23,988 for that day only. With $200 documentation fee, small amount of license fee, and 5% tax, I came away with a Sienna LE #3, and there was only 12 miles on the car. Later I dealt with other people in the dealership. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I was never even offered any other equipment, or any other service. It seems that everyone just wish to see us leave with their car as soon as possible. I could not believe that I got this deal at first try. Last week I read an article on Wall Street Journal saying that Toyota has built too many factories in US and has over-capacity problem. Another reason is the empty sales floor on that day (Sunday noon). I simply could not understand this. On the President's Day, Boch Toyota was so crowded that we could not find a seat. Even three months ago on a raining Wednesday evening, Ira Toyota was half full. The only reasons I could think of is that the interest rate increased from 6.2% to 6.8% (30 year), and unemployment rate in Massachusetts increased from 4.5% to 5.1% (US average stays at 4.4%). I was a little embarrassed to post this number, but I really wish that people can get the car they want, and the dealers like Boch and Ira can sell the car they have already paid for. So happy negotiation!

Well, let me tell you. Whoever said Toyota guys are shady when it come to these FJs, they are correct. I went to Ira Toyota in Danvers, Ma today to look at one advertised in the low 20's. I knew it was going to be more, but they had many in stock, so I took a Sunday drive. The orginal sales guy was pretty cool. Very up front about everything. I played the negotiating game for a bit and got them to agree on 4WD Manual with CQ package with a few other diddys. It's MSRP was 27500. They agreed to do it AT invoice, which was around 24000. Well, it didn't have a roof rack and I really wanted one. They tried to lowball me for my trade offering $5000, which is half of what it is worth. So, I figured I'd try for as much as I can get so I asked for a roof rack and if not, I'd buy one. This is when it went sour. They manager came back with a completely different attitude and basically told me to ***** off! When I told them I still wanted the car, he told me no dice. He was quite rude telling me I had the nerve to ask for a roof rack after getting it at invoice. I knew I wouldn't get it, but why not ask? Well I left, pretty po'd, and headed to Bill Dube Toyota in Dover, NH. A buddy of mine knows them there and said they are good people, but the only one they had was a fully loaded auto. The MSRP was around 32000 and the sales guy brought me right to the manager and we negotiated right there. He first said $500 over invoice, but being loaded, I still felt it was out of my price range. So, he tacked on an additioal $500 for my trade bring it to 10000 and offered it at invoice, which with all the options, was 27500. I felt it was too good of a deal to pass up so I agreed. It took less than 5 minutes. My wife thinks its a bit unpractical, which it is a bit, but I love it. My experience at Bill Dube was great and they let me take it without all the paperwork out of the way. They are meeting me tomorrow at my work to finish it off.

Is the rebate for all the toyota dealerships? I am in Danvers MA. After the first time that I went to Ira Toyota, and tried to make a deal they keep calling me to go back. When I got there they gave different prices, and they said that the rebate that they have is $1200. They didn't mentioned the $2000.
