Don't you hate when friends and fam don't ask for help???

I just found out that my fiance's mother just purchased a used Rav4 this afternoon. I had spoken with her earlier this year after negotiating a steal of a deal on an '08 Honda Pilot myself. I told her to let me know when she wanted to begin the car hunt and I would personally handle all of the negotiations for her. I have yet to learn all of the details of the purchase, but I do know she paid around $18,000 for one with almost 30,000 miles on it. Although I'm sure she has a solid vehicle after dealing with a POS Jeep for too many years, it really just annoys me that I could have (with some work of course) gotten her a new '08 4WD for right around the same price. I'm guessing it has to be an '06 or '07. It really can be quite easy negotiating with these dealers. I'm a fairly non-confrontational person when placed face-to-face, but over the phone and especially via e-mail, anything goes. I recommend anyone and everyone give it a shot. The only thing you have to lose is a few minutes of your time. Good luck!
a new bait and switch tactic

Well - I've been dealing with Deery Toyota here in Waterloo, Ia for the last 6 years. Bought my Tundra and my 06 HH from them - great deals, prices, and service both times. But now it seems they've farmed out to some telemarketer - two months ago I started receiving "Offers" from the dealership, showing what I'd have to pay, with my trade-in, with them basing trade-in value on what they saw at the last dealer service. In the last "offer", they offered my an 08 HH for 11k plus my 06 (with 60k miles.) Seemed too good to be true, but called them up anyway - after all, a phone call is free. Well - first, the dealership had NO HHs in stock. Second, the price offered was for a base model, no options, at the msrp of 33k. Fine with me - that's all the options I need; turns out though, that Toyota is not building or importing ANY HHs with that feature set. But they COULD fix me up with one for 38,5 - which of course, would bring my trade-in price due up over 16k. I'm still driving my 2006; its still fine, still getting 28+ mpg; and they just sent me another offer for the same vehicle that they don't have and can't get. ;-)

1. $ & cents. I assume you will pay at least $2000-$2500 more initially for a 2009. 2. I never purchase a redesigned model in the first year of production. I want all the bugs to be worked out. 3. The first 3 months of 2007 I purchased 3 used Corollas for my wife & 2 daughters. We have been very pleased. I wanted my wife to have a new one with the color she desired.

Good deal! If you don't mind my asking, what made you decide not wait to buy an '09?
Corolla purchase in Ames,Ia.

On 01-14-08 I purchased a new 2008 Corolla LE automatic, audio value pkg., all weather guard pkg. & floor mats that had an MSRP of $17435. The car is dark blue. I paid $15107. The salesman said the price was invoice minus the $1000 rebate. That agrees with Edmunds if you assume the ad fee was $297. This purchase price beat TMV by $383. I traded in a 2006 Corolla LE with the same previously mentioned options that I had purchased used 1 year ago that had been a rental car. It had 26336 miles. I received $12500 for the trade-in which beat TMV by $1107. I am very pleased. The entire transaction was completed in 2 hours & we took the new car home that night.
Re: Ordering a Sienna [msindallas]

I read you, I feel the same . The Sienna that I am after ia LXE LIMITED AWD with option 1,towing and that is it. My dealer here in Northern Nj is pretty fair and they do not add any "dealer installed" stuff to increase their profits...my advise go to another dealer..many a few more until you find what you want. Ordering from that dealer will never be to your satisfaction since as far as they can sell a loaded up Sienna (with their stuff) you will never get one...tme is on their side and they are counting on you giving in..good luck..
