09 XLE 4 cyl

CarMax Laurel Toyota, MD *Traction & VSC ($650) *Carpet & trunk mat set ($199) *Trunk monkey (6 bananas per diem) $23,688 after $500 rebate $3231 under the $26,919 MSRP 4.9% Toyota financing for 60 months. XLE offers lots of extras for the price. Car had been on lot for 9 days, and therefore had the recently increased freight and sticker price. There was an identical car on the lot which was a few hundred cheaper, but the black paint showed a lot of spots on the hood and trunk because it had been on the lot much longer. There are a few very faint spots on the hood of the one I bought, but the salesman gave me a repair order to get any spots they find buffed out free of charge. I wouldn't have noticed it, actually. With 20% down, it comes to about $375 a month. Costs me about $100 less a year to insure vs. Corolla. They appraised my 2000 Civic (99K miles) and found everything good, buying it for $1000 more than I expected. The salesman told me up front that fuel efficient 4 cyl cars are bringing good coin these days. After half a tank, on-board computer says I am getting 30.6 mpg after crawling through DC and Arlington, and then hitting the open road to visit Antietam National Battlefield. This is the first time I have ever enjoyed driving through the VA/DC/MD area. Helped friend buy used car at CarMax Laurel last year (right beside CarMax Laurel Toyota) and found both places to be smooth and easy. No pressure, nice sales staff, and what the sales person tells you turns out to be the exact same thing that shows up on the financing contract and buyer's order. She, against my advice, first went to a Nissan dealership, and they wouldn’t give her the price. “How much will you pay?” was the only thing she got from them. Ha! I also had a great experience at CarMax in Schaumburg IL 4 years ago after walking out of a horrendous Honda dealership. I have never had a negative experience at CarMax. I would shop at CarMax even if I had to fly into a city and stay overnight. Others may get off on haggling and wheeling & dealing. Based on what I’ve seen others paying, I feel like I saved money and didn’t have to be subjected to those cheesy dealer tactics and mind games.

Black 2008 LE automatic with sunroof, abs... everything but alloy wheels. Sticker was 19135.00, paid 16700.00 with the 750.00 rebate. Was going to pay 17400.00 and get the 4.9% financing but when we were meeting with the business manager he said our monthly payments were cheaper using the 750.00 rebate and 6.5% finacing plus it took more equity off the car. Arlington Toyota in Buffalo Grove, IL. :)

Sundevil brings up a great point. Giving the dealership close to you a chance to match/beat your best offer is a good way to go, particularly for warranty work (if needed) and maintenance. I found Arlington to be a little more reluctant, but then again I was coming from the city. Mas23: the "dealer invoice" is a moving target. Consumer Reports suggests to negotiate up instead of negotiating down. Look closely at your pricing services (Edmunds, et al). Based on information I have received from research and helpful information on this board, many "invoice price" listings already include allocation for holdback, marketing fee, and a wholesale margin. This number has to be balanced with: the time of the month you are visiting a dealership; whether it is an '04 or '05 you are after; if the car is "on the lot"; and, the homework you have done. Don't be ashamed to carry your folder of info to serve as visual evidence you have done your homework. Also, negotiate price without incentive. And be a straight shooter and demand that of them. The $1K is for the '04s presently (and $500 for '05s). I am hoping this will change come 2 November 2004. Good luck with the negotiation! Keep the board posted on your success. Cheers, c PS Am biased... would suggest the Highlander vs Freestyle.

I am in the same area and bought a 04 HL in August. Tried the edmunds quote request service and submitted direct requests to almost all dealerships in the area including Schaumburg, Libertyville, Naperville, Lombard, Elmhurst & Elgin Toyota plus some others. Received competitive quotes from Elgin, Schaumburg and Elmhurst Toyota (Libertyville wanted me to come in before they would give a price, Lombard promised to get back but never did, never heard anything to this day from Naperville). Did all the negotiations by email and took the best quote to Arlington Toyota as I had done the test drive over there (closest to my place, will get car serviced here) and wanted to give them a chance to meet the price. They matched without any haggling and I ended up buying from them.

Trans: Am in market as well. Get your research together and head to a dealership. I have heard some good reviews about Elmhurst Toyota and Naperville Toyota. There are a few '04s left, too. Am waiting to see if Toyota will better their incentives in November and will likely go with an '05 as well. As for reference, DarCars.com was recommended as a website/dealer to use as comparisons. I have noticed they are giving a decent push on the '05s and will take this in with me in November. Darcars is in the DC/Maryland area. Would not be remiss to go their if a deal can be made. Locally, I have also tried Arlington and Libertyville. Stick to your info. You are the only one looking out for you in the negotiation. c
