Wow, we just moved from CA to FL and thought it would be cheaper to purchase a Prius here. CA is not known for ‘reasonable rates on anything.’ Go figure! After flipping through this site, I learned a lot about the Prius. I thank all of you for enlightening me. Is it worth buying a Prius in the CARB states for that “generous warranty’? Do you pay extra for it? Since my bad experience with the Miami dealers, buying one in the NE is doable. Any dealer recommendations for CT, ME, MA, NJ, NY, RI, VT?
Re: Resale price of 2004 Prius vs Residual value for new Prius [jaxs1]

Can anyone, in any state, recommend their dealer? I am looking for an honest or at least reputable dealership that will not rip me off for a standard 2007 Prius with package number 2 and mats. This weekend I went to 4 dealerships in Miami, Fl. I thought the sleazy dealers were a thing of the past. Here are SOME of their lies: the window sticker base price is the price paid by the dealer, all cars come only with package number 5, package number 2 cost $1199 (not $850 as advertised on the Toyota site), the 2007 cars on the lot are not leftovers since 2008 cars will not be available until December, $22,500 is the dealers-paid base price without options. That dealer agreed on a price after 40 minutes of negation and changed it on the sales ticket. It was a horrible experience…..each one grabbed our license and one even wanted a credit card as proof we were serious. Every psychological tactics was used to detain us, wear us down, and to confuse us. With each case…..the cars were around 24,800 for what should be 22,500-23,000. Now as I read your prices….even that would have been too much. So, I am willing to travel out of FL to any dealership you recommend. I like Toyota’s Prius but the feeling of being swindled has us thinking about other car makers. Regards, srm
Ready to buy in SoFla - RAV4
by devlo on Fri Jun 02 12:34:57 PDT 2006
Everybody, I am now set on buying a RAV4 by the end of two weeks and have renewed my contacts w/ internet sales people in the Miami/Broward area. I'm looking to buy: RAV4 Basic - V4 White/Silver Standard options added on to RAV4s in the SOFLA area include: CDAT – Cargo Area Tonneau Cover - invoice - $112 / msrp - $140 DJAT – AM/FM 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer - invoice - $150 / msrp - $200 DRAT – Black Roof Rails & Crossbars - invoice - $176 / msrp - $220 RLAT – Daytime Running Lights invoice - $32 / msrp - $40 DESTINATION Fee - $605 SET Administration Fee - $558 (Edmunds.com) Total @ Invoice: $20,456 (including destination charge, and SET admin fee) W/ 7% sales tax = $21887.92 (not including tag/title --how much is that anyway?) This here lies the rub. From the last dealer, he told me that the SET advertising/admin fee was $725. What's up with the discrepancy versus EDMUNDS? Kendall Toyota offered me $20,995 AND THEN TOLD ME ABOUT THE $725 fee --which sounds like alot. Can I expect to walk out of the dealership paying for this car at $22,000 flat w/ tax, doc, everything included or am I unrealistic? Any local buyers out there?
RAV4 Pricing in South Florida (Miami)
by devlo on Tue Apr 25 22:10:06 PDT 2006
Hiya everybody, I am searching for a '06 RAV4 and have been checking out the forums to hear mostly positive owner experience w/ the new model :) I wanted to gauge my price quote offers w/ you guys to see if I am getting something fair. South Florida's a pretty hot market but there are also plenty of Toyota dealerships in the area. I requested a RAV 4 (Basic model/V4) in White/Silver (w/ no extra options) Headquarter Toyota dealership offered $21,168 for a basic model equipped: 6 CD Changer Roof rails/Crossbars Daytime running lights Tounneau Cover I'm not interested in the 6CD changer or the crossbars or the cover. The dealer priced the options at MSRP. I checked Edmunds.com and a similarly equipped RAV4 is priced at $20,861. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Kendall Toyota dealership offered internet pricing of 2% over invoice for any RAV4 model they had in stock (oddly, they didnt tell me whether they had the model I was looking for in their lot) According to Edmunds.com, a similar RAV 4 (like the one above) goes at invoice for $19,821 TMV. Tack on 2% on to that = $20,217.42 But the Big If with this dealership is whether they have an entry-level RAV4 not loaded w/ options...the internet salesguy also said they wouldn't budge from this pricing scheme (but who knows?) I am wondering what my next step should be. Can I renegotiate w/ these internet sales guys? Email them the Edmunds.com pricing for my area? Plus insist not paying MSRP for option packages? How does this work after getting these price quotes? Any insight would be helpful! Especially any comments from South Florida buyers.
My 2006 Limited deal in the Raleigh-Durham area (part 3)
by drquality on Sat Feb 04 12:45:54 PST 2006
And the Fitz experience confirmed it -- when the deal got messier, so to speak – locating the car, PPOs, hinting at a trade, etc. -- the sales force (er, the “consultants”) lost interest and the deal started to unravel. But if you are willing to buy a car under the conditions I listed above then I expect you will be pretty “satisfied” by a dealership on the “Cabinet” list. At minimum, consider getting a quote from them … it is probably not going to get too awfully much cheaper than what those lots will offer via phone/email on a cash basis. I called a number of them (across the US, not identifying my location) to help me get a fix on what the initial offer and dealer walkaway price might ought to be. They were good numbers for a place to start figuring from. Here’s the Cabinet’s List from the Toyota website, in ranked order: * Longo Toyota -- El Monte CA (LA metro area) * Toyota of Riverside -- Riverside CA (LA metro area) * Molle Toyota -- Kansas City KS * Ft. Myers Toyota -- Ft. Myers FL (Naples / Southwest Coast area) * Atlanta Toyota -- Duluth GA * Miller Toyota -- Manassas VA (DC metro area) * Beaman Toyota -- Nashville TN * Toyota of Puyallup -- Puyallup WA (Seattle-Tacoma metro area) * Libertyville Toyota -- Libertyville IL (North Chicagoland) * Maroone Toyota -- Davie FL (Ft. Lauderdale/Miami metro area) * Fitzgerald's Lakeforest Toyota -- Gaithersburg, MD (DC metro area) * Toyota of San Bernardino -- San Bernardino CA (LA metro area) I also took a stab at a number of the smaller, more rural dealerships in the area (on and off lot), but, generally speaking, I ran into a lot of highballing, sweatboxing, “come on down,” “bait and switch” attempts (there is a gob of markup/margin in the Southeast region Special Edition vehicle and one dealer tried to switch me into it at delivery … I walked) … and other such tactics that just wasted a lot of my time. So, looking back, I would recommend following tstrick320’s distance-bidding approach … after first checking ultra-high volume lots to make sure you have an idea of where the low bid ought be … and be sure to include some high and ultra-high volume dealerships if possible. Expect the best Limited deal to be about invoice plus $150 … unless it is the SE region, in which case it would be closer to invoice plus $850. If it is not an ultra-high volume lot … and the deal becomes more than a quick cash turnover (as with mine) your going to end up closer to invoice plus $1400 … the number toyodlr’s post suggests. Some other advice: If you cut a deal off-lot, and they don’t stick to the deal when you hit the lot, save yourself some time and frustration and just walk—the deal you thought you had was never there. Also, be clear that you are negotiating total delivered/OTD price, less only TTT, throughout your phoning/emailing/dealing/negotiating. It IS possible I left some money on the table along the way [Perhaps I might have priced in the SET fee when it was already built in elsewhere (though I think not, based on the digging I did) … or perhaps I shouldn’t be letting the dealer “off the hook” for the last $575 so easily and logically.] But I ended up with a dealership that could handle the PPOs hassle-free, and if I ended up with a dealership that I can trust in day-to-day dealings, that knows what it is doing in the shop and that remains customer-oriented throughout the ownership experience … well, it’s probably still a very good deal … for me. If you follow tstrick320’s distance bidding approach, and do some homework in advance to double-check the low bidder, you’ll probably “flush out of the brush” any extra monies I might have left behind and get your best deal. I dumped a lot of info in this post ... some of it took me a while to discover during the dealing ... in the hope that it shortens your learning curve and snags you your best deal. Happy hunting !!
