Courtesy Toyota extends that warranty to "lifetime" for the original owner. If we keep the car beyond 60,000/60 months the warranty has value (for me). It does have a $100 deductable per event.

But 5 years from now the price of gasoline is likely to be way over $7/gal. Why would gasoline not be, say, $20/gallon? That works out to 45cents/mile for Prius. Same price to currently drive a medium RV. Plenty of people will still pay it. As a positive to Prius you need to consider the difference in resale between Prius and Yaris. As a negative to Prius you need to consider battery expenditure. I've long thought the same about Prius vs. small conventional car. But I think we're now pretty close to Prius becoming the more economical choice. The trick is in predicting resale and gasoline prices 5 years out. However, if you research Toyotas sold elsewhere youll find the 1.0 liter, 67hp Aygo sold in UK, toyota.co.uk, gets the same mpg as Prius and costs less than half as much with similar features. It's smaller and goes 0-60 in 14 seconds vs. Prius' 10 seconds, but they are both rated about 100mph top speed. The Aygo gets better mpg than Prius at highway speed. Now those are the numbers that are hard to dispute. Contact Toyota customer service,http://www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html, and tell them to bring the Aygo to the US. Tell them you'll buy a Honda Fit if they bring it over with 1.0 liter, 67hp. Then contact Honda and tell them you'll buy a 1.0 liter Toyota Aygo if they bring it first. Tell them you're putting off buying a car until that day. I'm tired of marketing execs thinking Americans are power-addicted brutes (even if most of us actually are).

Please HELP!: by jrenton7 on Sat Apr 12 10:36:48 PDT 2008; I am in Albuquerque NM and am willing to travel to any state around me (texas, Arizona, Utah, CO to find the 22,000 price OTD on the prius package #2. Both the dealerships in my area quote a price of 24,000 OTD. If anybody could help me with how they got their dealer down so low or know a dealer that I can get to go that low in my area it would be much appreaciated!

Update in DC: by vividjen on Thu Feb 28 14:33:12 PST 2008; Lesson: there is a flurry of activity in the end! Wait it out. I don't know if I made the right decision but it is done! Lesson 2: get a costco offer first: they have a policy of giving $445 over invoice, plus tax, tags and a 100 fee. With this number, you can start negotiating with the others. Unfortunately, I did it backwards and could have saved myself a lot of work. So! I got an offer from a costco associated dealership for the XLE limited, extra value package #2, HID lights & cruise control (they all had it, even though I didn't want it), running lights, mat and sills, power 3rd, emissions, and satellite ready hook up for a total of $39,028.00 WITH a "comp" on service deals that normally cost 369, he said, for a free loaner car, premium service (50% discount I think on regular maintenance), free yearly alignment and their payment of a $500 deductible if we have damage in a crash that is our fault. (?!) This deal was $260 higher than another one from a more distant dealer, who might have come down more, but in the end I decided it would be good to have a dealer/service nearby. But! (learn from my mistake) another dealership then called me and offered to try to beat it -- And then, another. I am sure I could have gotten bidding going -- we are at the end of the month and finally! I had some numbers to work with. But I had given the 500 deposit to costco people and will stay with it. I figure I won't get any bait-and-switch or last minute surprises because they have to stay in cost-co's favor. Thought I'd share : )
