I don't think residents in NY and New England area can get a price close to other areas. (1) PZEV partial zero emission vehicle $300, is required on 4 cylinders in CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, OR, PA, RI, VT, WA (2) If you check truecar, you will find a $1300 regional Ad fee which is not applied to IL, DE, or other southern states. $1600 extra on your sticker price compared with same trim in other areas.

Got my Outback today by fishshtick on Sat Jul 23 22:59:23 PDT 2011

Picked up our base 2.5i today in Bangor, ME. Had a great experience, in part because my dad is friends with a dealer in NH who quoted me essentially invoice at $23890 out the door. I took my wife to test drive here in Bangor and when she finished I told the guy about our other quote and he didn't even hesitate, because he knew the NH dealer. Indeed, he got us a deal at $23640 plus tax out the door (we would have had to pay tax in Maine, even if we bought in NH). That's a couple hundred undred invoice (maybe more if you take into account that NE invoices tend to be higher than Edmunds listing, and about $400 under TMV. We also got the 2.9% interest rate, with out fees through Subaru/Chase, which is very competitive relative to local CUs and banks (all running around 4-5%). I have never recommended a car salesman before, but if you are in the Bangor area, I really recommend you track down Lou Martin at Quirk's Subaru. It really was a no hassel process, and I bet the experience would be similar for others who show up with some numbers to work with. If you go into the place to buy a car cold...well...I couldn't really say.

Thanks for the detailed post. Enjoy. We pick our new 2.5i Limited w/moon on Saturday. For one year registration in NH I think we'll pay more than your 4-year rate...but not sales tax. :)

2011 Outback Limited with Moonroof by gr26 on Mon Apr 25 10:29:07 PDT 2011

Paid $28,845 for this car, with Media Hub and All-Weather Mats. Car should be here in 3-4 weeks. Price includes title and documentation fee (no sales tax in NH!). Dealer was Tri-City Subaru in Somersworth, NH. Good experience, salesman let us progress at our pace. They came down from their initial price. I could have gone $200 less at another dealer, but previous experiences at the other dealer haven't been great.

2011 Impreza Price by scott6113 on Sat Feb 19 21:52:10 PST 2011

Here's what we just put a deposit down on: 2011 2.5i premium sedan with power moonroof value package. Auto. Armrest, side moldings, splash guards, spoiler. White. $19,600 out the door. Subaru of Manchester (NH). I have a purchase and sale that spells out that documentation, destination, dealer prep., full tank of gas, absolutely everything is in that price. All I have to pay is the state for plates, excise and sales tax, insurance to my insurer and my wife takes her princess home Consumer reports said cost including holdback on this car was $19837. MSRP was 21549. Dealers don't lose money, so there's something CR doesn't know. Cash, no trade. That is the only way to get the actual price. People who claim to get these cars for $16800 but had the dealer do the financing? So much can be hidden there. Why not use home equity and get the mortgage interest tax deduction? Salesperson said holdback was $800, CR said it ws $535. That would put his cost at $19572, still not sufficient profit. He said that those pricing services like Consumer Reports are inexact. $1949 off list. Quirk in MA says it does $1885, but I bet when you get there they tack on doc fees, etc.. We had quotes from 5 dealers. This one was the best and no games. Yet. The car is in transit. The accessories are installed at the port, so we could get just what we wanted in the color we wanted, no more, no less. They had inventory not just in rows but filling the driving space between the rows. Some cars they'd have to move 10 other cars just to get out. I think they're motivated. They're close to having to rent out an extra lot, and that can't be free. Still, I wonder if with the model changeover later this year they'll be better deals with leftovers. Something to consider if you aren't in dire need.
