Several months ago my dealer offered me a price of $26,500 for a used '06 7-pass Ltd w/NAV, approx 7k miles. That's $7500 below original total invoice. Who cares if the car was never titled - it still is essentially used if it has 5k miles on it. Frankly, it's probably worse to have 5k demo miles than 5k one-owner miles. I'd only take the '06 if it were much lower than they're offering. In my region, current rebate on the '06 7-pass is $3500 and can be combined with special rates. Check out cars101.com for the rates. No way you should be doing worse than invoice minus $4000. I'd think you could get $5k under invoice.

The incentive was just upped from $2500 to $3500 from SOA. My quote was with a $2500 rebate. So in theory, the price should be around $30700 now on the 06 for a $38350 MSRP Tribeca.

For what it's worth I got 2 quotes for a 7 px limited 2006 NAV/DVD for $31700 . MSRP was 38 350 for both of them. However, this is out the door cash offer with no financing and trade-in on my part.

Hi. I got a quote today on a 2006 7 Pass Limited of 2K below invoice. The internet salesman played dumb when I asked about a factory to dealer incentive (which I read about on cars101.com). When he mentioned one of the 2006 was a demo (though never titled) and had say 5,000 miles I asked what discount I would get for that. He offered an additional 1K for the mileage. Now I know that dealer incentive is 3K for that car. Do you think I can negotiate more money off for the mileage? Also should I be able to get the special financing since this is a factory to dealer and not factory to buyer?

I hadn't seen carsdirect.com before. Seems like an easy way to get a sanity check to make sure a deal someone is considering is a good one. Also makes me feel good that my deal was $200 better than what they're offering. Woohoo! -Jason

I couldn't find anything to verify that you had to choose between promotional financing and cash. I'll share my experience though... This past Saturday, I purchased a Forester XS for $850 below invoice + $299 processing from Mastro Subaru in Tampa. This is the same price Fitzmall.com's Tampa dealership was selling the same car for. Instead of getting the promotional 2.9% from Subaru for 60 months, I qualified for normal financing at 3.79% for the same term with $0 down. That made the promotional financing pretty much a moot point. The 3.79% was also through Subaru. Make sure you have been prequalified with an outside lender so you have leverage and do not volunteer what that lender is willing to give you. Just tell the dealer that you will give them the opportunity to finance you if they provide better than what you're already qualified for. I ended up getting a rate that was 0.9% better than what my credit union prequalified me for. As a side note, Masto's internet sales manager was very straightforward and pleasant to deal with. I did all of my negotiating through email. Fitzmall made it easy because they price so competitively. I simply emailed Mastro with the vin # from a similar vehicle on Fitzmall and asked if he would match that price on one he had in stock that I was interested in. He replied that he would and the next day I went in, test drove and did the paperwork. I liked having negotiated a price prior to actually going to see the car. Also, doing it over e-mail gives you a paper trail that you can reference back to if a salesperson decides they might want to pull a fast one.
