Thanks for the tip. Maryland dealers are getting a lot of business from Virginia. The dealers in Virginia have become too greedy. $400 to $600 in doc fees is unacceptable. I am ready to drive all the way to Pennsylvania - anything to avoid junk and bogus charges.

Hi, As another post suggested, focus on your out-the-door price. When you make the offer to the dealer, tell him "this includes the doc fees". Let the dealer figure out what is acceptable. My opinion is that doc fees should be called "guaranteed profit". It is 100% profit for the dealer. It is upto consumers to fight these fees and walk away from these dealers. Can you believe that some dealers are asking for $600 in doc fees in Virginia?

Mike, Did the dealer install the remote start? Does the remote start work as advertised? Please provide feedback. Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase! Do you have the remote starter installed on your vehicle? I believe this is a dealer installed option. I need feedback how good or bad this is...

Thanks for the advice to the people who commented. It was owned by Land Rover Alexandria which is connected to a big Subaru dealer, and they had several of them to get rid of (dealers can write the car off against cost over three years so its good business to sell them at that point). Hence the price was reasonable (plus they bought 40 of them at one go, so they got a group discount. I'm sure they made a healthy profit on them). I got it inspected yesterday and the vehicle had minor corrosion on the battery terminals and a missing rubber guard on the brake pedal. Apart from that it passed with flying colors so I picked it up. Thanks again everyone for the advice. Paul
